Zambian Mom        10"x7"                200.00

This Zambian woman carries her baby the way I saw all the native South African mothers carry their babies:  on their backs.  We were in Zambia in July and because South African countries are in the southern hemisphere, it was winter there.  So for the wrapping holding the baby on her back this woman chose a colorful blanket.

I marveled at all of the multi-hued and intricate designs of textiles used by the women of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana.  If you return to Home Page and then explore the other thumbnail pictures, you will see a few more of the unique textile patterns I have tried to duplicate in watercolor.

These little vignettes are derived from my photos of the scenes I actually observed and executed in my studio.  They are all done in transparent watercolor after first drawing in pencil.  I use 300# Arches watercolor paper and DaVinci tube watercolors.
