(B)Spoiler info, comments, and resulting discussion
(M)Ok, let me start off by saying that I did not like this episode. (A)I liked this ep. Now, I am not concerning myself with plot, plausibility, things like that. Nope. I've stopped going there. I have no full-blown rants, more like little rant-ettes. (L)It's a lonely place there. Believe me. I gave up my spot in Plausibility Land only after several episodes and realizing that if I wanted to see Honey and not puke... I was gonna have to use the dimmer switch on my brain. (A)Clearly, this ep was a gift for L -- lots o' Honey and no Hurl Girl. It was a gift for us SalGals, too, because AJ was so sweet throughout the *entire* ep, not just the last two minutes. God, he was adorable...not a single assbite, rat bastard moment. (L)I particularly liked him imitating his dad calling him "Andrew". (M)I don't enjoy watching grown men pout, no matter *how* good looking they are. And I've never hidden the fact that I enjoy watching Bobby about the least of all of them -- he and Janine are about equal, as far as I'm concerned, although he is usually in scenes with other interesting people, so I guess watching him has more likelihood of being interesting, for me, than watching her. But not by much. (Y)Seriously, Janine just seems really confused to me, and I understand that. Really well. Let's not get into how well (g). She's been criticized for not being a "strong female character." Well, not all women are, and I don't hate or despise anyone that isn't. I can't help who I like, and who I don't, and I like Janine (L)But M... Bobby's not a "grown man" yet. Physically yes. Emotionally? Oh hell no. It's a great chance for good writers to mold a character. Notice I wrote "good writers"? I lay this entirely at the feet of the writers. First we have some very VAGUELY drawn characters and then we are forced to wade through a few episodes where not much characteriziation is given. Instead, most of the time we see him with either HG or one episode women. Like that is interesting or something. (M)So, why does he go to the batting cages with the gang if he's not going to play? (A)I figured he had run out of tokens first. (L)Maybe he was waiting for his turn at a cage? (Y)An unsolved msytery. Like the people who get really excited about going to amusement parks and when you ask them to go on a roller coaster they say "no, I don't like rides like that." ::grumble, grumble:: (A)Here is my list of observations and rant-ettes: (A)1) AJ does *not* look good in a batting helmet. (M)I enjoyed the interaction between AJ and Anni. (L)That was cute. AJ imitating his dad was very AJ like. (A)2) Bobby needs to treat his incredible car with more respect. (L)He was upset! You expect my Honey to be a poster child for defensive driving when he's upset? (A)But, L...this is a classic Mustang we're talking about here. Care must be taken! (A)3) I don't usually find myself liking scenes that occur in the first 10 minutes or so of the show, but I really liked the Bobby and AJ scene by that vehicle (is that a Hum-V or something like that? Is that the name?) Bobby mocking AJ's head-bobbing demeanor was pretty cute. However, AJ was trusting Bobby and genuinely looking for advice and support, but he didn't get it. (A hushes everyone and tells them to stop groaning) Bobby just chose to mess with him instead. I know he was just having fun with AJ, but I wanted Bobby to be a little more "there" for AJ...a little less willing to watch his friend twist in the wind. I mean, AJ was there for Bobby later on, during yet another coffee scene. I know, I know, he was just kidding, but a positive word from Bobby would make AJ feel a little more secure about Anni, dontcha think? And that's what I want, damn it. (L)Honey laughing was very cute. Aw heck. Honey is just cute all the time! But AJ and his dorky behaviour especially the rear tire comment was sweet too. That's not what he was fishin' for, A. He was trying to see if Bobby knew if Kelly was AWARE of his feelings for Annalisa. AJ thinks he can hide his feelings for Annalisa but Wendell and Bobby knew probably before he did. Kelly? I dunno. But AJ's so sensitive now that Bobby couldn't help but bust AJ's chops a bit. Besides, he deserves it for all the crap he gave Annalisa early on in the season. (Y)They're Marines, A, really, positive words and support? If it wasn't for Lindstrom's efforts, would we see any? (A)4) Why was Bobby driving the Hum-V thingy? AJ's usually the driver. Hey, wait a minute (a light bulb goes off in A's head. Ouch!) Given that "Game, Set and Match" aired so long ago, I nearly forgot...but this ep follows AJ crashing the FAV after, yes, I'll say it, he drove "like a suicidal war pig." Hmmm.....Maybe Kelly is punishing AJ for his actions and not letting him drive expensive Marine equipment for a while. (L)Cause if he didn't 1) AJ would have had even FEWER lines this ep 2) HE had to be the one to drive his dad off the road and get him hurt Amazing but it actually made sense! (A)5) Good grief. Another *really* obvious stunt guy shot. When Bobby was driving and tried to cut off the van, it's clearly not RR -- the guy looked like he had a goatee. (L)I was afraid it was just me. That guy looked NOTHING like Honey. At least with the jump from the Huey in Soldiers of Misfortune, they scrambled/masked the stunt people's faces. (A)6) Why didn't AJ shoot that bad guy, after the van went into the water? Ya know, just wound the maggot. (l)Because he was too far away to get a sure shot to just wing him. If he shot wrong he might have killed the guy. No big loss but.... (M)Where was Wendell? I mean, I think he got to say about 5 lines the whole time! sheesh. (L)There is a very good explanation for this, M. One that we can all agree on. See, Bobby has his issues with his father because he was abandoned. He was left to grow up without a father figure, not knowing why he was being left, not knowing if perhaps somehow it wasn't his fault. Now, what is Wendell's BIG issue? That he's not around enough to be a good father to Christopher. BANG! You think the writers can pull off multiple sides of the same issue in one episode? Neither can I. (L)See, if the writers were skilled at handling this kind of thing we would have seen Wendell struggling again with his issues about being an absent father and then he and Bobby could have some serious talks about whether or not Christopher would end up with the same issues as his friend. This episode SCREAMED for input from Wendell but because they couldn't do it, he got the shaft airtime-wise again. :\ (M)Why in the WORLD would a woman look up at someone who's just kicked her door in and smile at them, then go back to watching TV? What kind of neighborhood does she live in? And why didn't AJ have something to say about that? (A)LOL! I thought I just didn't get that scene. If someone kicked in my door, and I looked up and saw two men with guns, one in cammies, hell, I'd at least scream and probably pee my pants. (L)Umm... She probably looked up, saw an INS agent (who normally I spit upon but this guy actually had some decent reasons for existing) and a Marine and went... What a bunch of assbites. But even I thought that was really stupid. (Y)Good one! Though, if she's a relative of a arms dealer, she might be used to it. Ya never know. (she looked kinda senile to me) (M)I swear, a couple of times it looked to me like Brolin got the giggles (or was trying to not get them, if you know what I mean.) (Y)That's like, every ep. (g) But, believe me, once you start laughing in front of the camera, it's really, really, REALLY hard to stop, atleast before take, uh, 16, I think it was. (M)The guy that played daddyo was either a real jack or did a damned fine job of playing one! Not sure which -- didn't like him, didn't want to listen to him, etc. etc. (L)His character's reasoning wasn't too good though even though towards the end I sorta understood. I didn't agree with his reasons for not getting in contact with Bobby but I understood. (A)7) AJ "searching" Anni for a pencil. Hehehe. That's all, just hehehe. (L)Nancy Drew on the make. heh heh (Y)(snicker) When she made him ask for the pencil, I swear, all I could think was she's the unit "mommy" (A)8) Why would a hospital have lighter fluid on a cart? Oops. I wasn't supposed to comment on plausibility. (L)That is what I wondered. Wouldn't it have made more sense to be a bottle of alcohol? Or is rubbing alcohol just not as flammable as it should be? Sorry. I'm only marginally a pyro, not a full blown one! (Y)Someone else was wondering that I see. Well, when you have difficult patients. . . must come in handy. ;^) (A)09) There were 3 references that I heard saying "20 years ago," making Bobby 23. Seems too young to me. (L)I thought he was 4? Which makes Honey's character 24. I bought him as 24 in SAAB but he had more hair then. :\ (Y)Definitly. Well, you know, continuity and realistic ages, hard things for tv writers. (L)Also! Bobby's scummy dad said that he was walking along the beach holding Widdle Bitty Bobby's hand. Umm... Arizona is a land locked state. Does this mean that Bobby was born in Arizona but the family moved later? Which beach? Which coast? Or did they go to Texas to play on the beaches of the Gulf? Inquiring minds want to know! (A)10) L, Honey's looking a little thin. Invite him over to the next big family gathering you have and feed the boy, will ya?
