(M)I think this episode was what Brolin must have had in mind when he talked about too much machinery. Way too much machinery. Way too much standard, everybody's done it before guest roles. Way too little Sea Dragons. (A) Nice to see Lindstrom being chatty with non-team members on a couple occasions. (M)Liked the bathroom scene between the guys. (J)Best part of the whole thing..."So, the aftershave? That supposed to make you learn quicker...?" (A)Didn’t like Anni going off on Wendell like that. It really wasn’t any of her business (M)"Annalisa" was heard more than once, even from AJ. That was about it in terms of what I liked. (M)How/why did AJ know to plant the bombs when they went back to pick up the defector? I thought a court-martial was in store for them if they used any firepower at all. (J)Because the guy had been followed...and they knew it... (L)Planning for every contingency? (L)I think the guy just meant the stuff on the amphibious vehicle, stuff they could REALLY trace and consider an act of war (M)Why did daddyo decide the British woman was a baddie and could lead him to his daughter? (J)Because the truth is there are not too many caucasian women running those sorts of operations (nightclubs) in Korea. She sticks out. (L)Actually cause the pic that was sent to him had part of the name of the bar where the (seemingly drugged, or was that just me?) English chick worked. (M)Why did daughter give someone her passport and purse in the first place? (L)Cause she's stupid? (J)Because you have to give them the passport for id, so they can hire you, they usually give it right back, like giving your drivers licence in the US to personnel and they copy it and your social security card and give them back. This time they didnt give them back. And as for her purse, she probably set it down whilst doing the interview and it was simply taken. (M)Why did they just forget about the other 4-5 American women who'd been in the little cell with daughter by the end of the episode? (J)Bad editing? Bad writing? The usual Pensacola excuses, or perhaps they let the Korean authorities take care of the rest and as usual did it off camera. (M)Oh, I did like the fact that Anni was the one to whom the gun needed to go for "the shootout." Falls in with the end of "Company Town" although it definitely goes against the Pilot part 2 episode where, with all the shooting she and AJ are doing, they manage to wound a whole *1* baddie. (M)How come Elmo didn't laugh? (L)Cause Wendell was smart and took out the batteries? (M)How come this little Korean boy speaks English and has an English/American name? (L)Cause his mom probably teaches him it or else he is learning it in school. English is the language of commerce and the preferred accent is American. (L)He probably has a Korean name as well but around Americans uses his English one, knowing that they could not pronounce his real one. (J)His father was an american serviceman I believe. Or at least that was the impression I got...his mother seemed to have a past history of seeing american men... (M)Hmmmmphhhh. *M is very disappointed with this episode.* (L) Bobby puts his arm between Wendell and Annalisa to grab his beer and when he pulls it back he sort of "scores" on A's chest with his elbow. (M)Although I did wonder why he sent *her* to get *his* beer! (K) God..I have no idea.. (L) M, probably. I just noticed that the first time I saw it though. Don't know why I was so all fired concentrated on his elbow. (K) and why did Aj hang in the back (D) It's her turn! (M)I mean, it's one thing to get beers for your friends, but I guess he was really thirsty and she didn't come back soon enough? (L) Yeah. Equal rights and all. Or else she lost a bet or somethin'. (K) possibly..and they didn't bring on for AJ (L) M, or he wanted to add his two cents into getting Wendell to go hang with them? (M)Oh I don't have a problem with her getting them -- just wondering why he had to come get his, then (TC) I thought it was good but not beleivable (K) why not believeable? (M)TC -- hmmm, I thought it was really bad * M thinks she's the only one who *really* didn't like it (TC) The girl gave her passport to a total stranger...that's the worst thing you can do when your over seas (L) M, there were too many earlier ones that I REALLY didn't like for this one to bother me so much. (M)Ok, so she gives them her passport -- WHY DID SHE GO BACK? Why in the world would she think that the local cops would be WORSE than a prostitution ring or whatever? (L) I'm just surprised that the consulate didn't let her in. Of course I've never been outside of the US. How would I know? (TC) exactly M (K) b/c I would assume over there..sence it is a hot zone..without her passport.. she's screwed.. (TC) She should have kept running after she got away (M)I understand she was upset and got lost -- but knocking down a cop is *bad* in *any* country! (K) had no idea..no papers..she's their illegally..and she was scared..people do dumn things when they are scared. (D) Korea isn't THAT hot (M)Plot device, I guess. ::sigh:: (L) I can tell M is sick of Plot Devices. (TC) It's better to knock down a cop than get involved with a prostitute bar * L would have gone to the Base and cried on some handsome Marine's shoulder * M just wants some continuity! CONTINUITY! Ok, it's a 5 syllable word, which is I guess the problem here with the writers. ::sigh:: (K) LOL!! (TC) lol (M)Continuity and believability (M)Reality is nice -- I mean, I know this is a TV show, and I don't want total reality, but some would be nice (D) Maybe it's not the writers anyway.. (K) D..who else would it be? (D) WE often get a bit annoyed and blame "the writers" when an otherwise good episode gets blown out of the water by some silly plot device (M)Huh? Plot devices are from the writers, aren't they? (L) D, but who 'puts' the plot device there if not the writers? (M)'cause they didn't take the time to figure out how to get from point A to point B (M)(in the story, I mean) (D) yeah, but It not just them... There's a whole "team" there working on this programme (M)For all we know, the writers are told that "this stuff will have happened by this episode" and so they write in a vacuum -- kind of like a lot of Star Trek novels (I hear) are written -- so maybe whoever wrote Soldiers thought that some other stuff had already been dealt with. (M)It may have been dealt with, in the Trials script, but the director and/or producers cut stuff out -- we'll probably never know (D) Yes M. That's what I meant about it not necessarily always being the writeers fault (K) I know..but stop cutting hte good stuff..like the anni aj kiss..that was good..but too short. (TC) I think that Anni is afraid too get too close to AJ because he's her team mate and she doesn't want to put her carreer in hot water (K) I know what you mean..but what get's me is..I'd think that would be AJ's reaction.. not hers. (M)K -- he's male? Is that sufficient reason for his brain to turn off, you think? (K) I'd think her's would stem from..ok..this guy used to live to make my life hell! and now he says he has feeelings for her (K) LOL M..I guess it is. (D) Yes, if anything goes wrong he'll blame it on her cuase he thinks she shouldn't be there in the first place (K) I just see it as I watch it..he's ready to go..and she's scared..that either he's going to hurt her or something..b/c if she wasn't..she wouldn't have been upset with him dating Cuban Tramp dejour in Game set match. (TC) It's like a little boy who likes a little...at first he picks on her then later on he shares his cookie with her (D) Yes TC. That whole bit about coming out and saying "I don't like Women in Combat".. (Bobby seems to be annoyed at AJ for coming out and saying it, not so much *thinking * it).. Maybe it's an attnetion grabber (M)Well, especially after the 'glove snap' thing in Road Warriors, it's definitely like Jr. High (D) Like *hey! Nootice Me!!! (AJ to Anni) (TC) I think so too. (M)D -- so maybe, after he "gets her" he'll lose interest? (K) yea..I LOVED that.the glove scene..but it's like part of him feels like he has to protect her..like in Trial..and the other part is like..he has to be macho and one of the guys.. (L) D, maybe Bobby thinks that everyone has the right to their own opinion. Doesn't mean they have to trash other people with it though. (K) it's possible..to my knowledge..they havn't even gone out..unless the do after game. (D) Maybe after he "gets her" he'll try and change her... and that's what she's afraid of too (TC) I think she's afraid that it might be just another fling to him and that she wants something more (L) AJ can't be thick enough to think that after he "gets" her she'll become Mrs. Homemaker. Can he? (M)TC & Dee -- yeah, I think she's smart enough (or thinks she is) to believe his interest is just because he "can't" get her (M)S -- I'm not sure that he's thought that far ahead (D) Probably not M, (K) Aj hasn't had any dates..except HER in this season..ANni wants more than just a fling.. (M)Like, maybe, he just said out loud what he's been trained in, but hadn't really thought about it in terms of *him* -- he seems to be acting on instinct most of the time (or training, or whatever you want to call it.) (K) Anni accepts AJ for who he is..the good bad and really ugly..he seems to think or want to change her..that's not going to go down. (K) Aj's fine as long as someone isn't in danger or hurt..then he flips! (M)I don't think he flips (K) just totally loses it I mean get the boy some DIAPERS!! (K) M??!!! * M knows she's going to take some heat on that one! (M)I don't think he loses it. I really don't (K) he's not exactly the picture of tranquilty when someone's hurt or things go really bad. (K) Birds of Prey? (K) wendell being shot in Grey GhostS? (M)Ok. Birds of Prey. What, specifically? (M)Grey Ghost -- he was *not* over reacting I didn't think. He was talking to Wendell -- and some of that was *Wendell's* perception of what AJ was saying to him! (K) when in the chopper..he's like all defensive..yelling at the guys..and what not..just totally not cool and calm..Anni was calm..he was losing it.. (M)K -- he's calm at first, then he gets *upset* and loud, in order to communicate to Anni that something's going on behind her (K) oh I know that..wendell was going into shock..but when someone is hurt..you're supposed to be calm..you freak..they freak..he wasn't calm! (K) Hell he'd probably have the mother of all break downs if something happened to anni. (M)I thought he was relatively calm -- the whole scene was really short (I know, I tried to get some pictures from it!) (D) Do they all have parent issues? (M)Don't we all? (K) just talk..get to know each other..even AJ says that he doesn't know much about wendell.. and he spends more time with him than any of them.. (M)How old are these people supposed to be? (L) Wendell is the only mystery man. (D) Wendell seems to be the only one with a normal upbringing (D) (although normal... is... abnormal these days it seems) (K) Um..early 20's (K) like around 23 and 24 (K) Wendell.nothing is said about his past..just he grew up on in the streets sorta.. (K) AJ..his parents are very controlling..and upset b/c he didn't do what they wanted.. they don't talk for alot of reasons.. (D) Mmmm.. I would have thought it would take a bit longer to qualify.. get promoted (TC) It's funny that they aren't very close because they spend almost all their time together. (D) say 25- 27 (M)So barely old enough to know their own minds, in other words. Yet we expect them to fall into a team right away? I think the fact that they're *not* really a close team is one of the few situations that are relatively close to reality on this show. (D) Yes, even off duty they are hanging around with each other (K) ANni..is the youngest of 3 only girl and they are all favored over her..especally by her dad..who I assume didn't take much interestin in her. (L) TC, not enough time. I'd LOVE to see them on a carrier in the same bunk room. Twould be cool. (K) well all they need is to grad college..that's age 21 to 22 (K) and they can do OCS training while in college.. (D) Yes, but they'd be 2nd Lt then. and it takes a while to get promoted (D) no matter how good you are, they don't give you that step up immediately (K) anni and Bobby for flight training is like 1 to 2 years. (L) M, only cause they haven't had enough... INTENSE time together. I want to see them have to spend some time together under seriously stressful situations for an extended period of time. Did that make sense (M)L -- yep (K) so about 23 to 25..not more than that.. (TC) It's like being on a baseball team...sure at first you don't know your team mates but after a while it's like you've known them all your life... (K) I too would like to see them..really have to get to know each other..I don't konw if stressful times would do it..but you know what I mean. maybe they are forced into R&R (D) They tend to insert themselves into life threatening situations rather than have it thrust up on them. (TC) No but you have a common bond...love of the game....and they have life as a common bond (K) they are a team in the sence that..the 4 of them go into life and death situations.. anni hold their lives in her hands each time she takes them up...and when they are one the ground it's them against the world not each other..they just automatically give over that trust of their lives to one another..without really knowing each other.. (L) D, I know it's sick but I think it would be cool if they were to go to war. Stressful situation to the max. Or maybe I am just missing SAAB again. That's probably it. (M)TC -- but look at how many players on a baseball team do things that are professionally and personally 'bad' -- I don't see even players on a team (most of them, and I admit to NOT being a sports fan so I may be completely out of line) knowing everything about each other (K) but why can't they just get to konw each other..by talking..going into one of their rooms..or off..just talking!
