| Herman Allen 1957 |
Since I actually transferred away from MCHS at the end of my junior year in 1956, I probably don't qualify as alumni. At any rate, at that time I went north to live with my father, like most teenagers I thought I was being mistreated at home and would do what I wanted living with him. That turned out to be untrue. While I was in Bradenton I was using my stepfathers name of Allen since it was decided that the divorce of my parents would be less traumatic to me if I didn't have to explain why my parents name and mine were different. Funny the things you do. I graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended Kent State University in Ohio. My actual last name is Goode. Married my wife Mary and we have four sons, three grandsons, and one granddaughter. I retired in 2000 after 36 years as a sales manager with an Ohio manufacturer, lived in upstate NY, Washington, DC area, eastern Ohio. Moved to Brevard, NC when I retired and have a condo in Pompano Beach, FL. Our sons all ended up in Ft. Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Boynton Beach after graduation from college, so this gives us a good place to stay when we visit them, usually during the winter months. |

I live in B'ham, AL and travel nationally and internationally as a VP for an international financial services company. Most of my travel is conducting seminars related to my field. Been at it almost 30 years now. Just a mere babe. My business is great and I do well but I am the same old cut up I always was, I just get paid better. My feeling is that God gave me certain talents and if I harvest them correctly and get my priorities right I have a great chance to be happy. That is number one. If I can make a little $ at the same time that is just a serendipity. Took me a little while after Vietnam to get it all worked out. By the way I was there with Sherry Hadley and he and I spent a long weekend together not long before he died. Just sort of bumped into each other. What a loss. He was one of the good guys. |

| Lisa Bosner%20 | Not sure what to say about the "then" part... Um, I was more or less a rebellious angst-ridden teen in honors English who liked to write bad poetry, wear all black or maybe sundresses from Goodwill with moccasins (gothic hippie??), and go to "punk" shows when not following The Grateful Dead, while repeatedly failing to grasp the finer points of algebra. Dropped out after 10th grade and eventually resurfaced at Adult School...Not exactly bio material. Now (ah, the success story) - I got my BA from New College in sociology and am working on an MA in American Studies at USF. Have been doing social work at Senior Friendship Centers in Sarasota for 2 1/2 years. Live in Sarasota with my boyfriend, Roy (who is not from here), and a dingo dog named Duga :) Am still writing, but have been focusing on nonfiction, ethnographic accounts of things and people that strike me as somewhat or completely odd. |

After high school, I went to the University of Florida, got a degree in journalism, launched my career in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale and then came to Charlotte at the end of that incredible year, 1968, when everything in America seemed to go wrong. I have managed to keep up with my journalismn classmates through the American newspaper grapevine, which is long, curling and multi-branched. I have worked for The Charlotte Observer--that's a newspaper-- for almost 32 years. Charlotte is the ultimate New South city, big, new and growing. I have not been to Bradenton for many years because my parents are gone now and I have no contacts --- except for the MHS web site. Bravo to all of you who launched it. The last time I was there, I thought the city looked very nice, although not the same small town of our high school days. What I still cannot fathom is how Florida got to be the fourth-largest state. Where are all those people stuffed? Perhaps we will have a class reunion next year-- our 40th. That is hard to believe. It seems like both forever ago and yet yesterday. But it was a different world back then; those years were the calm between the storms of the war years and the cultural wars that began in the mid-60s. I gathered from reading about MHS on various web sites that it is still considered an excellent and progressive high school. Is that true? That pleases me a lot. (Editor's note: The following is an excerpt from e-mail Nancy sent. I thought it was important to include it.) "My book is titled Nancy Brachey's Guide to Piedmont Gardening and it is being printed right now, and will be out in October, just in time for the Great American Christmas shopping season. The Piedmont is a great swath of land between the Appalachian Mountains and the Coastal Plain, approximately between Atlanta and Richmond, which of course is the targeted sales area. It is great gardening territory, and people here are passsionate about it, which explains why the Observer allows a full-time employee to work on the subject..We considered calling the book, briefly, The I-85 Gardening Book. But that was just a joke. I hope to sell a lot; it is basically a compilation and updating and etcetera of my garden writing for the past 15 years or so. It will not be seen in Florida since it is out of the territory. Some Florida papers run my stuff; I get mail from them, and the Miami Herald , which is part of the Knight Ridder chain, as is Bradenton, Tallahassee, Myrtle Beach, Columbia, Detroit, Philadelpiia, San Jose and a few dozen more places across the country." |

I graduated from MHS in 1991. Other than a short residence in Orlando, I have lived in Tallahassee since two weeks after graduation. I received my advanced Master's degree from Florida State and as of now (1999) am working toward my Ph.D. in psychology. I also work full time for the State of Florida as a Psychological Specialist and moonlight as a supervisor over our local crisis hotline. I am unmarried and child-free at this time. I am very active in the community and in my career, and I absolutely love living in Tallahassee. I'm interested in finding out how everyone else is doing, so if you recognize me, please drop me an email. |

Hi! I graduated from MHS in 1991, went to MCC for a bit, then on to FSU where I majored in Political Science. I moved to Indiana to be closer to my mother and transfered to Indiana University. I switched majors to Elementary Education and I have been teaching first grade ever since. I live in a town called Warsaw. It is about 2 hours east of Chicago, 45 minutes south of the Michigan line, and 2 1/2 hours north of Indianapolis. The population is about 25,000-30,000 people. (If you count all of the livestock, we are bigger that Miami, Florida) I am married to Jeff Schumaker, a Hoosier native. He is a golf professional. We have no children at this time, just three cats. (Teaching first grade IS a method of birth control.) I hope that all is well in Bradenton! I miss the warm weather all year!! Take care....... |

We started dating the end of our senior year and were married in 1971 after Bob graduated from engineering school. Two weeks later he started with FP&L where he has been for 30 years, currently as Regional Manager for External Affairs. After moving around Florida seven times we are now in Ormond Beach and just love it. Matt, our oldest of two sons, graduated with a Masters from the University of Florida and is a 5th grade school teacher in Gainesville. This summer Micah completed 4 years with the Navy as a cryptologist spending most of his time in Japan and is now working on an engineering degree. As empty nesters, we divide our time between community organizations and riding our motorcycles. (The photo is from an article in Halifax Magazine about bikers with traditional lives.) Bob has served as chairman of the Daytona Chamber of Commerce, FUTURES Education foundation, Boys & Girls Club and others. Bobbi just finished two terms as President of the Daytona Beach Symphony Society and is active with the Literacy Council, PACE Center for Girls and Daytona Beach Leadership Council. We both are Elders in the Presbyterian Church. As we move through the phases of our lives we continue to grow in love with each other enjoying together all the festive activities in central Florida. I attended Manatee High from 80-84. I moved to Massachussetts in my senior year because of family. I would love to get in touch with some of my former classmates and see whats happening in their lives. I absolutely loved going to M.H.S.. I was in the Marching Band, Concert Band, Sign Language Club, Photography Club, and the Drama Club. When I moved up here, my new high school didn't offer half of the programs M.H.S. did. I was very disappointed. I have never forgotten the great times I had marching at Disney, F.S.U. half-time show, all the games...etc... I now live in Belchertown, MA on a horse and beef farm. My life revolves around all my animals now. Along with my beef cows, I raise North American Spotted Drafts and Percherons. I would love to share some of my animal stories with some of my old classmates (if they remember me). |

Let me bring you all up-to-date on my life since high school, as near as I can recall. In Sept 63 I joined the Army and studied German at the Defense Language Institute, in Monterey, CA (a tough assignment). After a little more training at the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, MD I spent about 2-1/2 years in West Berlin (another tough assignment). I could tell you what I did but then I would have to kill you. While in the Army I took courses thru the University of Maryland and after I got out of the Army in 1967 I got an A.A. in Business at the world-renowned Manatee Jr. Coll. After that I got a B.A. in economics at the University of South Florida. Then I started work on an MBA at the University of Florida, but withdrew after my major was cancelled (and my grades weren't that great either). For a while I worked with my step-father in Bradenton, and was an assistant manager at the K-Mart in Bradenton (what fun!). Finally I got a job as an economist with the Army Corps of Engineers in Savannah, GA. I was there for five years doing benefit-cost analysis on various water resource projects (ports, dams, flood and erosion control, etc.). While working fulltime, I finally got an MBA with the Joint Graduate Program of Armstrong State and Savannah State Colleges. Then in 1978 I went to the Corps headquarters in Washington, DC, working on putting the budget together. I retired in 1994 with 25 years Federal service (4 in the Army and 21 with the Corps of Engineers). I am now a North Carolina resident and live here in Sparta about 7 months out of the year. Sparta is in Alleghany Co. in the NW part of NC and my home is about a mile or two from the Blue Ridge Parkway. From about Nov 15 thru Apr 15 I live in Bradenton, on 26th Ave. East, near Mixon's Fruit Farm. These North Carolina winters are too cold for an ole Florida boy like me. I am enjoying retirement and work a lot on family history. I also play a little tennis. You can reach me via email at:%gary_felts@yahoo.com.% (This bio updated 5-23-2000) |

I graduated from University of South Florida with a degree in Geology back in 77. I have been working in the field of Geology/Geophysics since I graduated. The field of oil exploration has let me travel quite a bit but I have worked mainly in Texas, Mexico, England and Saudi Arabia. I am currently working in Saudi Arabia as a Geophysical Specialist with Saudi - Aramco which is the major Oil Company in Saudi. I am married to Linda Kay and have a daughter, Corrie, 10. I would like to ask the question - What happened to the rest of the class of 72? |

After graduating in 1963, a group of us from MHS And Southeast went to Business College in Jacksonville. From there I went to Marietta, GA where I worked with Lockheed for a while. Then back to Fla, where I joined IBM and worked in Admin. and Personnel at Cape Canaveral. Loved working in the Space Program. Transferred with IBM to Manassas, VA where I helped start up the facility there - still in Personnel. Went into various staff and management positions, ultimately going to Division Headquarters, as a Professional Meeting Planner. Did VIP Marketing launch events for a few years, then major IBM Marketing ecognition events - Golden Circle, Marketing Symposiums, etc. Started my own Mgt. Consulting business in 1989. Left IBM in 1994, moved to Dallas-Fort Worth area for a few years, then out to Bakersfield, CA in 2001, as Administrative Operations Director for a couple years, and have just left mgt. position to do staff work from home - same company. LOVE IT. Also, on the side have done editing and writing for numerous authors for the last eight years, which is really my favorite thing. |

Since I graduated in 1970, it could take 30 years just to tell about my past. However, 30 years is along time and I might die in the middle of all that or you might just from boredom. I retired 5 years ago from the U.S. Navy. It seems like everytime the 70's class had a reunion, I was either out of the country or leaving once again. I spent 12 of 21 years in Spain. The rest in Canada, California, and Hawaii. (No I was not a fleet sailor) Obviously, with all the years spent in Spain, I was destined to return. And yes, I have moved permanently back to Spain. I live with my wife Elena and 2 children Alan and Jennifer (typical Spanish names eh!) in a small village just outside of Sevilla Spain (Mairena del Aljarafe). Please, if you are ever in the neighborhood, look me up. Once I retired from the Navy (21 years) as a cryptologic communications officer, I went to work for Arthur Andersen in Sarasota for four years as a software product consultant. (Communications/Taxes hmmmm! doesn't add up). Well, I had enough of that so I luck into an opportunity. I had planned for many years to move permanently to Spain and just around the corner from where all of you may know, there was this telecommunications company called Cheetah Technologies looking for a project manager, now known as Acterna just waiting for someone like me to walk through their door. Everything worked out perfectly. I am now a Project Manager for Acterna Spain for all the hybrid fiber optic cable networks and status monitoring systems for the different private companies which have recently materialized here in Spain. My goal has been met, and I am back in Spain and enjoying. Please take the time and look me up. |

The
Punmeister sends greetings to all MHS grads! After graduating
from MHS so many years ago, I toured Manatee Jr. College, University of
Florida, University of Missouri-Kansas City…then toured with the US
Army for three years (one in Korea). I graduated from Central
Missouri State Univ. in 1971, then received my MA in Library Science
from University of Missouri-Columbia in 1972. After three years
as a librarian, I settled in as a career Fed, currently a Human
Resources Specialist for General Services Administration's regional
office in Kansas City, Missouri. I retired from the Air Force
Reserve in 1996. My beautiful bride of 32 years, Sally, is an
administrative assistant at Johnson County Community College in
Overland Park, KS (our home). We’ve had a lot of fun raising
three children, one of each (paying attention now?). Ari, a
graduate of the Univ. of Missouri, works for Wells Fargo Loan operation
HQ in Des Moines, Iowa. He and his wife Mary made Sally and
I first-time grandparents in December 1999. Jeremy graduated
first in the U.S. Air Force Academy class of 1998, and is currently an
F-16 Fighter Pilot stationed at Shaw AFB in South Carolina. Our
daughter Shira is an independent contractor. Sally and I are
close to being empty nesters, and are looking forward to future world
travel. One place we'd like to visit again is…Bradenton…how about
for the Forty Year reunion in 2003? We enjoyed our visit during
the mini-reunion in November 2000. I can be reached at
jbullfrog@planetkc.com. And for those who are curious...I don't
tell puns anymore. Don't tell 'em any LESS, either (and my
kids are just like me!!!). ![]() (Webmaster's note: Larry is the editor of our Manatee High School Sport Championships page.) |

"Ernie"
won the 1993 National Cartoonists Society
Award for best comic strip. "Ernie has a particularly devoted following in Scandinavia, where the strip also appears in comic-book form. In 1989, Grace became the 24th international cartoonist to receive the prestigious Adamson Statuette from the Swedish Academy of Comic Art. Readers there have formed their own Piranha Club, named after the decidedly unfraternal organization to which Sid belongs." (http://www.kingfeatures.com/features/comics/piranha/about.htm) "In 1979, Bud Grace, who at that time made his living as a nuclear physicist, decided he wanted to draw cartoons. A few years later, after already achieving success freelancing to magazines, he had his own syndicated newspaper strip. King Features recently changed the official name of the strip to The Piranha Club (although most papers still carry it as Ernie). Ernie started appearing in book form in 1990, and several collections have been published since then. In 1999, a very special one came out. Ernie — Out of Control contains strips that never appeared in the newspaper. "Occasionally," says the cartoonist, "I'll draw up a good gag and send it in just to shock my editor." Considering how tasteless some of Sid's antics are, even the ones that do appear in the papers, the ones that don't must be shocking indeed."
