About Mallet Masters
Mallet Masters was founded in 2006 by Shela Vilardell, who has been a musician for over 30 years. It was during her time spent as a volunteer in her children's public school band programs, as well as programs in neighboring schools, that she realized the need for high-quality percussion mallets and repair.
Young percussion students are notoriously rough on their instruments, and band directors with limited budgets can't afford to continue buying brand new mallets every time a budding young musician damages a pair (which is often). That meant that good mallets were often scarce when the time came for band class and concerts.
That was when Shela stepped in to offer the band directors an option. It so happened that very early in Shela's musical career she learned the valuable art of repairing, i.e. re-wrapping, her own percussion mallets, a skill not easy to find just anywhere. She found the ability personally valuable when she was a young musician herself, since she couldn't always afford new mallets either. By offering to re-wrap the band directors' mallets, they now had an affordable option: re-wrapped mallets that were better than new at a fraction of the cost. Now they could keep their percussion sections well stocked without breaking their budgets.
Of course, the opportunity for this quality and affordability isn't limited to just band directors. Musicians of all levels (and the parents of those musicians) can now enjoy the benefits that Mallet Masters offers.
Shela has been hand-wrapping and repairing percussion mallets for over 24 years, and she understands the importance of a well-wrapped mallet. When making mallets for herself, she is only satisfied using the best materials. These materials, in conjunction with her skill as a mallet maker, yield very high-quality results.
Fortunately for Mallet Masters' clients, Shela doesn't know how to make or repair mallets any other way. This means that if you purchase a new Mallet Masters mallet, or if you enlist Mallet Masters to re-wrap your used mallets, you will get the exact same level of quality that Shela uses in making mallets for herself.
