Very original singer-songwriter.

The American singer-songwriter Doug Hoekstra (with Frisian roots) last year delivered a very fine album with Around The Magins, with strong melodies, countermelodies layered with the use of loops not common with singer-songwriters. On The Past Is Never Past a few new songs are collected with songs not making the Around The Margins cut plus other 'loose' songs from compilations, websites etc. Therefore The Past Is Never Past is not as balanced as Around The Margins, but it does show a pattern-card of the many abilities of this very original singer-songwriter. For music lovers.

De Amerikaanse singer-songwriter Doug Hoekstra (met Friese roots) leverde vorig jaar met Around The Margins een zeer fraai album af, met sterke melodieën, tegenmelodieën en een gelaagdheid via het gebruik van loops die je bij singer-songwriters niet vaak aantreft. Op The Past Is Never Past zijn enkele nieuwe songs gevoegd bij liedjes die Around The Margins net niet haalden en andere ‘loslopende’ liedjes van compilaties, websites, enzovoort. De aard van het beestje houdt in dat The Past Is Never Past niet zo uitgewogen is als Around The Margins, maar het is wel een staalkaart van het niet geringe kunnen van deze zeer originele singer-songwriter.
