Owing as much to literature as to rock and roll, alt.country pioneer Hoekstra uses folk, country, blues, jazz and gospel in his story-songs. ‘Acoustic troubadour Roberts has appeared fleetingly on Parkinson and supported Ron Sexsmith, Ian McNabb and Martin Stephenson – and it’s good to see our own Matt Hill back performing again after his recent spat with grim reaper and joking about ‘life imitating heart’ (groan).
