ST PATRICK'S DAY QUIZ

Here's a fun one to ask your friends & family on the big day. What nationality was St. Patrick? Most will say, "Irish, of course" and they would be wrong. St. Patrick was actually British (I wonder if the IRA knows about this). He was captured at the age of 16 by Irish raiders and made a slave to an Irish leader for a few years. He finally escaped back to his family, but couldn't get the Irish out of his mind. He said that he felt led to take religious training and return to the land of his captors to share the gospel and that is exactly what he did. He used a clover leaf to symbolize the Trinity, 3-in-1, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. POST IT....on your calendar.

IRISH POTATO CANDIES

These are fun because they look exactly like unwashed dirty little potatoes. When I took them to a potluck I kept having to move them back from the vegetable section to the dessert table. But best of all, they are DELICIOUS. They are a Philadelphia tradition at this time of year too. They taste like coconut bon-bons, but they are rolled in cinnamon. Very easy to make. Melt 1/2C butter in large pan, then remove from heat, add 1 can condensed milk, 8 oz (3C loosely packed) coconut, & 2 lbs (yes, 2 pounds) powdered sugar. Mix together well with hands & form into small, about the size of large marbles (they are VERY rich), potato shapes. Roll "potatoes" in about 1/2 C cinnamon & spread in 9x13 dish. Put in fridge for 2 hours to set, then they can be stored at room temp piled onto a large dinner plate. Makes a large heaping dinner plateful. POST IT...in your recipe box & on your shopping list.

HEPATITIS SHOTS FOR KIDS

This entry is for anyone in the following 11 western states: Arizona, Alaska, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah & Washington. Due to the high incidence of Hepatitis A, notice "A", cases in these states, the CDC is now recommending that children in these states be vaccinated against this particular strain. This is NOT, repeat NOT, the Hepatitis shots that your kids may have already gotten, that is strain B. These states have twice the national average of Hep A and that is why they are recommending routine immunizations. Read more about it at http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/9902/18/hepatitis.vaccinations.ap/ And if you would like to make sure your kids are up to date on all other shots check out http://www.aap.org/family/parents/immunize.htm POST IT...by your doctor's phone number.

JOKE (from Robert P.)

"My friend called his car insurance company to tell them to change his address from Texas to Vermont. The woman who took the call asked where Vermont was. As he tried to explain, she interrupted and said, 'Look, I'm not stupid or anything, but what state is it in?'"

FEEDBACK-FEEDBACK-FEEDBACK

From Sally R., Los Angeles, CA, USA

"I read the latest issue (of the Make a Note) last night and checked for unclaimed funds. I was very surprised to find that my father has $550 being held for him by the State of California. Thank you so much for the tip! We're very grateful. I really enjoy your newsletter. Keep up the good work!"

Editor's Note: Glad to be of help. Did anyone else out there find any funds?

From Anne B.

"I'd really like to know more about the woman who wrote saying that her family of four lives on less than $15K a year! Where is she from? What kind of housing does she have? What's her food budget per month? I'm totally bewildered! Any additional info? Thanks."

Editor's Note: Unfortunately I didn't keep R. Cook's email address after I included her feedback. So if she is still reading, how about sharing some of your secrets with our readers, Mrs. Cook?

All for now. Please pass on the Make a Note to anyone you think might be interested. And let me know what YOU would like to read about. How about sending me some good clean jokes for the joke section? Or your favorite quotes? Keep that feedback coming.

God bless,

Sharon ^i^
