Matching Organ Donors

If you or someone you love is awaiting an organ transplant, then you should definitely check out this site to match living donors with those who need organs. If you are truly willing to make a big sacrifice for someone else, then you should also check it out. This site helps to match living donors with those in need of organs. Organs, or parts of organs, that you can donate as a living donor include...Kidneys, Pancreas, Liver, Lung, Bone Marrow, & Intestine. Being a donor is not without risk, and the site seems very conscientious in encouraging potential donors to consider the risks and talk things over with their own physicians. Any site that encourages heroism (being a donor), and helps to save lives, is one that we can definitely recommend. Go to... www.matchingdonors.com

POST IT...on your computer, w/your physician's name, and in a place to encourage thoughtful consideration

Mid-Sized TV Prices on the Rise

After losing our analog only mid-sized TV to a power surge, we hit the stores to find a replacement. We actually felt (and maybe we're alone in this) that the analog only sets had better pictures. Not to mention that most sets with digital tuners ran $200-$300 more than the analog sets. You might also be in a situation like ours, where you have an alcove in your wall for your set, and the larger DTV (usually rectangular) sets won't fit in the space. If you fall into any of the categories above, then you might consider getting a mid-sized (25"-36") set now, before new FCC regulations go into effect. The FCC is trying to phase out analog only sets, and have moved up deadlines for the same. All TV sets 36" & up must have digital tuners (DTV) by July 1st of this year. Fifty percent of all mid-sized sets must have DTV by that date, and ALL by 3/1/06. Everything else that receives by 12/31/06. Read more about it at... http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-259245A1.doc

Windshield Cracks Pt 2

Thank you so much for all the readers who wrote in to share good info...it was certainly news to me. Many readers wrote in & said that most insurance companies, and even some state governments, feel that windshield cracks/chips are serious enough, that they will fix them for free, without touching your deductible or raising your rates, depending on the company or government. So be sure to check with your insurance company or local/state governments to find out if it could work for you. A big thank you to Diana T., P. Cannon, and the insurance agents who wrote in with the info, and anyone else I may have missed. This just goes to show you that some of our best stories come from our readers. Keep them coming! :-)

POST IT...in your glove compartment, and in the yellow pages under auto glass repair.

Recipe: Kraft Food & Family Recipes

In this issue, I'd like to recommend a great source of free recipes delivered to your email box, or mail box. While I know there are a lot of comprehensive online (& off) recipe sources, this is my favorite. Kraft Food & Family mailings have more recipes for "real" families. Recipes with ingredients that you can find at your local grocery store, recipes that don’t take forever to prepare or cost an arm & a leg, recipes that aren't so avant garde that your kids turn their noses up. But the best thing of all, is that they are free. You can sign up for the emailings or the magazine by calling 1-800-521-4403, or by going to www.kraftfoods.com/connect  The magazines come out five times a year, seasonally (winter, spring, summer, and fall) plus a holiday issue. The recipe photos are beautiful, and the directoins clear and easy to understand. If you'd like some samples before signing up, they have a nice recipe search section.

POST IT...on your computer, and to-do list.

Back Issue Treasure: June 5th, 2002 Issue (Grad Party Recipes, More Cell Battery Life, National Zoo Tips, & More)

Check out this back issue if you are looking for fun recipes for a grad party. Make your cell batteries last longer with our tips in this issue as well. Heading to the National Zoo in DC?...find out the time to go when you can have the place to yourself. We did do an article in this back issue about cell phone plans for those who only want to use the cells for emergencies or quick family calls, but the article is no longer valid since ATT no longer offers this plan. The Make a Note currently recommends the Virgin Mobile pre-paid cell phone plan....all this and more in this back issue.
