THE NEW MAKE-A-NOTE WEB SITE

Yes, we now have a WEB SITE to go with the our ezine.  So now the Make-a-Note info is even easier to get to, retrieve, and pass on to friends/family (be sure to tell them to sign up for the ezine while they are there).  Some of the features include...an INTRODUCTION or how we all got started, our CURRENT ISSUE with links to the sites mentioned in the articles and links to subscribe, BACK ISSUE info including a link to a web site with back issues and directions on how to get an index of back issues by email, along with access to even older back issues, LINKS AND RESOURCES has a multitude of links to my favorite sites and order information for my favorite books and other materials, and finally our BONUS STUFF page which will make available more lengthy material that the ezine just didn't have room for.  This web site is still a work in progress. We will continue to add much more to the LINKS & RESOURCES page in particular, so check back often & see what's new.  Remember that ALL web sites will "hiccup" occasionally and need to be refreshed or have problems loading, so just because it happens once doesn't mean it will happen again.  If a page doesn't load, just click on your web browser's REFRESH button.  But, if you do have any complaints or suggestions for the web site, we want to hear from you!  Like the ezine, we have tried to keep the web site clean & fast, so it is easier to get to the info that you are looking for.  So visit today & tell us what you think at <http://home.att.net/~make-a-note/>   POST IT...near your computer and in your Favorites/Bookmarks.

FREE BABY SHOES

Here's one to pass on to all those new mothers out there.  The national store chain, Payless Shoes, is running a promotion for any baby born in the year 2000.  They will give you a FREE pair of baby shoes (size being given away fits 6-months-old size & younger) for any baby born this year.  Just go in, fill out a registration form, and they will give you the shoes.  Remember though that most pediatricians will tell you that barefoot is better, most of the time, until they are walking, but for those times when you think that bare feet would be just a bit too casual, here's a chance to get them free. POST IT...on your shopping list.

PASSOVER/EASTER CELEBRATIONS

It isn't too early to start planning for those spring holidays and we have some recommended material to help you get started.  Check out our web site's BONUS STUFF page for an article on preparing "Easter Story Cookies" AND celebrating the Passover with a look at the Christianity's roots in Judaism.  You will see the Passover in a whole new light, no matter what your faith.  The Passover article is by Stan Kellner, of Sheresh Ministries.  He also has written a booklet with even more detailed info in it called, "Behold the Lamb:  A Messianic Passover Seder" that you can order for an $8 suggested donation. To order, send a check (also made out to) to:  Sheresh Ministries Inc, P. O. Box 26415, Colorado Springs, CO  80936.  Mr. Kellner is also available for speaking engagements.  For more information on the above, or Jewish roots ministries/perspectives, you can contact Sheresh Ministries at the above address, by phone at (719)532-1573, or by email at sheresh@aol.com.  POST IT...on your calendar.

FAMILY CELEBRATIONS

This series of books by Ann Hibbard is filled with wonderful ideas and resources for celebrating many different holidays.  Her original book, "Family Celebrations:  Meeting Christ in Your Holidays...", that covers the most holidays, is out of print, but may still be found at used book stores.  She also has books still available IN print for Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving/Halloween alternatives, and one that covers birthdays, vacations, Mother's Day, & Father's Day.  So check with your local book store, OR order from Christian Book Distributors by calling 1-978-977-5000 or go straight to their web page at

http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/search/2524301 and type in "Hibbard, Ann" under Author & hit the enter key .  They all run about $6 or $7, so they are very reasonable. The Easter project is a Road to Calvary banner that can be made out of paper, felt, or other materials, and works in a way similar to an advent calendar at Christmas.  The kids love it, a great idea for your own kids, grandkids, or other relatives.  You should start preparing it now if you want to have it ready before Easter. POST IT...on your shopping list, by your computer, & on your calendar.

You can click on biographical info, see where they stand on ALL the issues, find out about controversies, etc.  Go to http://www.abcnews.com/sections/politics/, then click on "The 2000 Vote" on the side bar.  POST IT...by your computer.

HOW TO REALLY LOVE YOUR TEENAGER

Normally I don't recommend books until I have completely finished reading them, but I've underlined so many great points/ideas in the first half of this one that I just couldn't wait to share it with you.  "How to Really Love Your Teenager" by Ross Campbell, MD is one of the best, if not THE best, book I have ever read on child-rearing. You should get this book whether you have a great relationship with your teen, or are ready to raise a white flag.  His insights are tremendous & I am already starting to see some of the things he talks about in my 11 1/2 yr-old!  If you have pre-teens, read it NOW, to start some good habits for the future. The premise of the book, is that your teen does best in ALL areas when they feel loved, and too often they are not feeling loved because while you may SAY you love them, teens are very action-oriented and we may need to do a lot more with our actions to help them truly BELIEVE they are loved.  There are also chapters on Focused Attention, Anger (by teens AND parents), and Depression.  BTW, he also has a book for younger children, "How to Really Love Your Child", which is a good book, but I feel that his teen one, should be ISSUED to all parents of teens. Check it out by going to http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/search/2524301, then enter "Campbell, Ross" under "Author" and hit your enter button, then click on the book entry for more info.  You can order it from your local book stores, or by calling, 1-978-977-5000.  POST IT...by your computer, on your shopping list, by your phone...GET THIS BOOK! :-)

BACK ISSUE TREASURE:  BODY FAT SCALE, FREE VET CONSULTATIONS, FREE EMAIL/LONG DISTANCE, ETC

The February 15th, 1999 issue is packed with good info to save you money.     Recently I have seen ads for the Tanita Scales/Body Fat Monitors, but there is a company in California that sells them even cheaper than Tanita does!  It is MUCH more important what your body fat percentage is than what you weigh.  Two 5'10" men may weigh the same, but if one is a professional athlete and one a couch potato, then the weight can mean entirely different things. For free veterinarian advice, Foster's & Smith Pet supply catalog has an advice line that can be called at certain times to perhaps save you a trip to your vet. There is also info on free email and long distance services (the latter NOT via the internet).  You can request this issue by sending an email to make-a-note-issues@xc.org and in the Subject Line or Body of the message type in "MAN-013" and you should receive the issue promptly.  POST IT...by your computer.

JOKE (Church Bulletin/Sign Bloopers)

"Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community."     "The eight-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' in the church basement Friday at 7pm.  The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy."  "Don't let worry kill you, let the church help."

QUOTE

"Do you know what is the most important question on your teenager's mind?  Without realizing it, he is continually asking, 'Do you love me?'.  It is absolutely the most important question in a teenager's life.  And he asks the question primarily through his behavior, rather than with words...One of the main reasons most parents do not know how to convey their love to their teenagers is because teenagers, like younger children, are BEHAVIORALLY ORIENTED.  Adults are primarily VERBALLY ORIENTED...Just as there are no perfect children, there are no perfect parents.  Don't let guilt from past mistakes damage your efforts to raise your teenagers well."

--Ross Campbell, MD, from "How to Really Love Your Teenager"

Editor's Note:  Mary Kay (of the cosmetics company) once said that you should always picture other people with signs around their necks that read, "Make me feel important".  Perhaps we should always picture our children, of ALL ages, with a sign around their neck that reads, "Make me feel loved".  One thing that I struggle with is that this isn't a one time thing.  You can't just convince them one day & expect them to "hold that thought" until they are grown. It is  something that is probably more of a minute to minute task in the hearts of the children.  They are such a gift, and only with us for a short time.  Perhaps it is time to put "SHOW my kids they are loved" at the top of our "to-do" lists.
