"Holiday Gathering" Copyright Thomas Kinkade, Painter of Light We purchased this signed and numbered lithograph on canvas at the Thomas Kincade Gallery in Fashion Square, Scottsdale in 1999. I love Christmas snow scenes! It's beautiful, and it will keep the spirit of Christmas alive all year long in our home. I think I bought it because it reminds me a little bit of my Grandparent's home, which was a two-story, gabled house with enormous wrap-around porches. I also love snow at Christmas, but we never get it where we live now. As a child, I spent nearly every Christmas Day at their house (I lived near enough to walk, anyway), and I loved Christmas because it meant all of the Saxon family gathered together from both Far (Texas, Jackson, and South Carolina) and Near. I still believe that Christmas is a time for family to be together whenever possible. This painting brings a little nostalgia at this time of my life when memories of past Christmases keep popping up. It would be wonderful to be able to go back just one more time and re-live one of those Christmas holidays. Those were times when Christmas was full of childhood magic. The house was alive with laughter. For days, there were preparations for a huge dinner, and family members catching up with news of the past year. And the Christmas Dinner! The long table (actually about three lined up together and covered with white linen tablecloths) was laden with more morsels than we could eat.
This is a photo of the
old Saxon house - It certainly doesn't match Thomas Kinkade's
nostalgic portrayal of yesteryear, but it's a grand old house. It is
no longer in our family, but is owned and well-maintained
by a family with children whose laughter once more rings through
the high-ceiling rooms. And, yes, occasionally
it does snow in my home town; however, never at Christmas.
Still, it's nice to dream...
