by "deuce"

The following were our entries for the third and last European Thingie Proxy series of races as we have known them for the last three years.

There were six races. In order they were:

Egg, Switzerland

Turin, Italy

Dusseldorf, Germany

Udine, Italy

Herrsching, Germany

Lugano, Switzerland

POINTS:

Race results counted for 60% of the final total. "Technical" Concourse was figured for 20% and "Visual" concourse made up the last 20% of the final total.

1/24 Classic "Viper-Z"

The Viper-Z was entered in the "Classic" category.

Body molded, vacd' & air brushed in house.

Going with the idea of matching the box art as much as possible, slight widening of the body nose to tail, and lengthening the nose was built into the mold, allowing the body to fit the original chassis much better.

The car finished first in racing points but, was relegated to third place overall due to a "not so original" body making for low points totals in concourse.

1/24 "Typhoon"

Body molded, vacd' & air brushed in house.

Many of the body lines were influenced by "Shinoda."

Chassis was scratchbuilt in house of .062 piano wire, .062 brass rod & .064 brass stock.

Equipment consists of vintage stock 16d mabuchi mill, melt proof Tradeship endbell, vintage Riggen front & rear wheels with Alpha Pirahna sponge donuts, steel pinion & Cox crown gear.

The Typhoon finished second in the final "Fast & Scratchbuilt" category points after consistent fourth and fifth finishes in the racing, out of a 34 car field.

1/32 "UFO"

Entered into the "D 1.5" class using a "spec" motor & bracket. 20 entries.

Body designed, molded & air brushed in house.

Some of the taping/masking process.

Chassis was scratchbuilt in house of .062 piano wire & .064 brass stock. As per rules, an ABslot rear bracket was used.

Equipment consists of the specified stock TSR mill, Hand made front wheels/tires, Alpha sponge donuts, steel pinion & Cox crown gear.

The "Mini" UFO finished third overall and was said to be a "smooth runner."

1/24 "UFO"

Entered by "Dominic the Dominator" Zimmerman

Body designed, molded & air brushed in house.

Some of the taping/masking process.

Special spinners were fabbed for both UFO cars.

I started with a trashed Champion #286 frame & salvaged the rear bracket, four rails & front axle tube. These were the only parts that weren't damaged. The rest of the chassis was built around this base.

Chassis was scratchbuilt in house of .062 piano wire & .064 brass stock.

Equipment consists of Stock Mabuchi 26d motor, Riggen front wheels/tires, Riggen rear "telescopic" rims with Alpha sponge Pirahna donuts, steel pinion & Cox crown gear.

The UFO took the checkers as the overall winner of the F&S category. Running the stock 26d mill, the UFO consistently finished mid-pack in the racing but, rose to the occasion in the concourse tabulations. The car was sold to head series organizer Edo "Thingie Kingie" Bertoglio after the series for an non-disclosed amount and it's images were entered in an art exibition in Milan, Italy in the Fall of 2008 along with other similar creations from other "Thingie" artists.
