The Marblehead Lighthouse on the shore of Lake Erie was built in 1821. It is the oldest lighthouse in continuous service on the Great Lakes.

The first Lighthouse keeper was Benajah Wolcott. When he died in 1832, his widow Rachael Wolcott was appointed to the position. Rachael became the first woman lighthouse keeper.
