Neither Scottish in origin nor a rite in the religious sense, the Scottish Rite has as its ultimate goal mankind's moral and spiritual development teaching Masons by 32 degrees of Masonic knowledge. Are military and patriot Masons promoting what is known as "Americanism". This organization has as one of its precepts the words of George Washington, who once said, "When one assumes the soldier, he does not lay aside the citizen." Founded after the Spanish-American War to meet the needs of the Military Mason in war and peace, they have grown to perpetuate love of country, and duty to the same. Americanism activities of the National Sojourners include patriotic ceremonies, speeches, presentations, and other actions intended to promote their love of country with special emphasis on the youth of our nation. Chapter #545 and its Washington's Cruisers Camp of the Heroes of 76 is in our local area.
This organization is renown for their clowns, parades, and celebrations. The Shrine was founded in 1872 by a group of 13 men belonging to a Masonic Order. It was originally established to provide fun and fellowship for its members. But as the organization grew, its members dedicated their efforts to helping others by establishing an official Shrine philanthropy, a network of specialized hospitals that have provided expert medical care to more than 700,000 children, free of charge. Kena Shrine or Acca Shrine are in this area.
Is the playhouse of the craft, where world-worn men can get together, forget their cares, and be, as it were, boys again. For within their portals, the stiffness and formality which keeps men apart melts away and truer relationships are found because of the breaking down of these barriers. In this way the Order aids the cause of fraternity, supplementing the work of the regular Masonic bodies with a spirit of cheer which lends a charm and grace to the severity of the more serious work. Abaca Grotto is the local organization here in our area.
Is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which men and women may belong. Worldwide, there are approximately 1 million members under the General Grand Chapter. Its purpose is to use beautiful and inspiring biblical examples of heroic conduct and moral values. Eastern Star strives to take good people and through uplifting and elevating associations of love and service, and through precept and example, build an Order which is truly dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness. Masons and their wives find this Order a means to share the Masonic experience. Chapter #29 is in our area.
Is based on Queen Christina of Sweden's court, which is why the executive officer, which must be female, is called Royal Matron, and the Royal Patron that sits on her left supports her. Amaranth members are emphatically reminded of their duties to God, to their country and to their fellow beings. They are urged to portray, by precept and example, their belief in the "Golden Rule" and by conforming to the virtues inherent in TRUTH, FAITH, WISDOM and CHARITY they can prove to others the goodness promulgated by the Order. Since the early 20th Century, Freemasons has promoted, supported, and participated in non-Masonic youth organizations and activities throughout the world. By offering our support we give the next generation the means to seek knowledge and develop social skills necessary to develop future leaders. As such, our fraternity have also created and supported Masonic youth organizations to promote not only the above mentioned skills, but also the purpose, values and traditions of our own fraternity as well.
