Anne Sward (Lyla) was getting bored with playing a concerned mom and Mona Lisa entertainer when Bill Shanks (Casey) came on board the show. Their chemistry was immediate and before long; scripts contained bold instructions like: CASEY LOOKS AT LYLA IN A NEW WAY. The May/December romance progressed through Lyla's insecurities about age and her possible inability to have more children. The relationship culminated in a marriage that took place six years ago this month. Lyla wore a Pace of New York silk dress that had a re-embroidered bodice of pearls, sequins, and glass beads. The bride was as happy as she was pretty, and her fears proved unfounded; the couple grew more in love each day and they had a beautiful baby, Katie. Marital difficulties came later, when Casey was diagnosed with the potentially fatal Gullain-Barre syndrome. When Casey lapsed into a coma, Lyla's daughter, Margo, disconnected his life support system. Lyla never hadd the chance to say goodbye to her husband. All she had was a tape of his voice instructing Margo to do what she did. Lyla was crushed.
