Margo Ends Casey's Life
(SOD, June 1990)

A respirator has been ordered for Casey, but the failing doctor asks Margo to not allow him to live as vegetable on a machine. Let me die with dignity, Casey tells her. While Lyla and Casey's parents, Joe and Maureen, pray for his health, Casey, gasping for air, outlines what he needs from Margo. She tries to get hold of Tom, who's in Washington. She calls Greg Hadley, who's been trying to execute a living will for Casey, but it's not finished yet. With Casey on life-support and drifting into a coma, Margo prays for wisdom. Dr. Purcell tells Lyla, Maureen, and Joe that Casey's chances of survival are slim. Maureen won't accept it. After discovering he took Lucinda's beeper by mistake, John calls the hospital and learns that Casey's in a coma. Duke gives the news to Bob. Margo goes into Casey's room and unplugs Casey's respirator. She kisses him good-bye and the alarm goes off, signaling death.
