By the time costume designer, Joan V. Evans checked off each item of clothing on her shopping list, nearly every decade in the past century of fashion was represented. "Lyla's dress was really a fifties dress with the sweetheart cut-out and the wide belt and the full skirt. Her dress was a challenge because her husband just died three weeks prior. So I wanted it to be elegant, but quiet, with both a good color and a good cut," Evans notes.
