... about me
Hi, my name is LYNN ANDERSON
Welcome to my Home page
This was done for fun; nothing profound here!
...a provocative quote
Cole Porter said, "Most gentlemen don't like love, they just like to kick it around."
...where I live
I live in Palm Beach County, Florida, a little slice of heaven.
Here is a statistical snapshot of West Palm Beach.
...Aaah...Florida, I love it here.
Located in the Southeastern U.S., Florida, a 58,677 square mile peninsula, technically is 100 miles (160 km) north of the tropics and Florida's southern tip is 1,700 miles (2720 km) north of the Equator.
The area highlighted in "yellow" is Palm Beach County.
Florida is larger than England and Wales, Greece or Hungary. Geologists estimate that Florida is one of the youngest parts of the continental U.S.; the last land mass to emerge from the ocean.
The State of Rhode Island can fit inside Palm Beach County twice.
The Florida landscape is sprinkled with 10,000 lakes with the largest being
Lake Okeechobee. This lake is one of America's greatest natural wonders. (Okeechobee means "big water" in the Seminole Indian language).
It is the second largest freshwater lake in the U.S. (450,000 acres).
For most people, beaches and palm trees are synonymous with Florida.
When one thinks of hurricanes, Florida comes to mind.
We have lucked out through the years but
it finally ran out in Palm Beach County with Hurricane Frances over Labor Day Weekend 2004.
Frances howled into Florida as night fell on Friday, Sept. 3.
It was slow and huge and sat there for 30 hours, pummeling Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast with tropical storm/hurricane force winds.
Top sustained wind at landfall was 100mph.
The eye of the storm was 50 to 70 miles wide and 400 miles across and trudged across Florida for nearly 3 days.
There were 20 direct and indirect deaths. Preliminary damage estimates are between $4 billion and $8 billion.
These were the scariest days of my life.
A few weeks later, we got Jeanne that landed at nearly the same spot.
Three hurricanes in 2005 brought historic death and ruin to the southeastern U.S. including Florida.
We are the land of
and fun as well as home to
and an occasional tornado.
and the Miami Dolphins football team
the guys who took Manhattan--
the World Series Baseball Champions for 2003, the Florida Marlins.
We also have the Miami Heat basketball team.
...did you know?
do you care?
Florida is the #1 producer of sugar cane in the nation.
P.B. County has the most golf courses in Florida (150) and we rank 2nd in the nation.
Nearly 20 million visitors came to Florida during Jan, Feb and March of last year.
Florida workers make less than the national average, ranking 31 out of 50 states.
Florida ranks 47 in wage growth.
Florida dairies produced 2.41 billion pounds...that's 295,343,137 gallons...of milk in 2001.
Okeechobee County is the leading dairy county.
Palm Beach County is the leading producer of sweet corn in the State.
Florida chickens produced 2,737,000,000 eggs in 2001. Laid end-to-end these eggs would form a line 112,313 miles long and would circle the earth 4-1/2 times.
Florida ranks #3 in the nation for violent cimes in 2002.
Riviera Beach, Florida is #1 for the most per capita car thefts.
Used home prices last year were over $400,000 in PB County.
...a quote from 1845
"Florida, sir, is not worth buying. It is a land of swamps, of quagmire, of frogs and alligators and mosquitoes! A man, sir
would not immigrate into Florida, No, sir! No man would immigrate into
Florida--no, not from hell itself!"
U.S. Rep. John Randolph of Virginia during debate on bringing Florida
into
the United States.
Nearly 60 years ago, Florida only had about 1.9 million residents.
Now we have around 15,982,378 people.
Aside from tourism and cattle, citrus is our biggest industry.
Although citrus trees are not native to Florida (first trees were planted by Spanish explorers between 1513 and 1565), we have more than 100 million citrus trees on 850,000 acres.
Americans drink about 50% of the world orange juice supply, consuming 1.3 billion gallons last year.
In 1946, concentrate (the removal of water from oranges and freezing the product) was developed and consequently, Florida's citrus industry boomed. Florida is the leading citrus producer in the United States.
Palm Beach County has 10,617 acres devoted to citrus.
Florida now has 797,303 acres of citrus which has shrunk by 4% since year 2000 due to diseases and urbanization.
The 3 leading citrus counties are Polk, Hendry and St. Lucie.

It's so damn true. How can it be any other way?
... on love
Having said that,
God determines who walks into your life...
it's up to you to decide who you let walk away,
who you let stay,
and who you refuse to let go.
When there is chemistry between two people it is undeniable.
It is up to you to recognize it and seize the
moment. Nothing worse than a love that is lost because of indecision.
We don't get too many chances to get it right.
Follow your heart.

Guess who said this!
"You know I could run for governor but I'm basically a media creation. I've never done anything. I've worked for my dad. I worked in the oil business.
But that's not the kind of profile you have to have to get elected to public office."

"They are willing to say left is right
and up is down....The Vice President,
Dick Cheney, and the president need to

The Whitehouse was completed 200 years ago. George Washington was the only President to never reside there.
Every day, about 6,000 people visit our President's home.
It takes 570 gallons of white paint to cover the exterior.
It has 132 rooms and 32 bathrooms. It is amazing that Monica found her way around so easily.
...my biggest concern
The growing and popular, hostile propaganda throughout the world community against the United States which is a deliberate falsification of our values and motives.
We need some major "Damage Control" in foreign diplomacy.
The United States is the world's 3rd largest country in population size after China and India.
Here, population growth is 1.96 per woman and 71% of U.S. women use some form of family planning. In spite of this,
population in the U.S. is expected to double its 270 million in 60 years!
9.3% of the U.S. population is foreign born and steadily increasing since 1970.
More than half the U.S. population lives within 50 miles of the coast.
An estimated 12 million people live here illegally.
34.6 million Americans lived in poverty in 2002.
Over 47 million Americans do not or can not afford medical insurance.
...a quote on women's status
"I couldn't believe God meant a woman's brain to bring 50 cents on the dollar."
the late Mary Kay Ash, of Mary Kay, Inc.
Said after her male assistant in 1963 was promoted at twice her salary.
"I don't know how to say this nicely, but people have simply not supported women in the workplace."
Pat Schroeder, former Congresswoman from Colorado who left office in 1997 and now CEO of the Association of American Publishers, stated in an interview on 4-4-02.
We know who you're talking about Pat!
...why marriage is for morons
"The surest way to be alone is to get married."
Gloria Steinem
"Marriage is like paying an endless visit in your worst clothes."
J. B. Priestly
...reflections that I like
"In life, we cannot control the luck of circumstance or the subjectivity of those
who stand in judgment, or the politics of race or nationality involved in all
human affairs. All we can control is individual, personal commitment to strive
for excellence whether or not it is expected of us.
To strive for less is to accept mediocrity as one's due."
Stebbins Jefferson, columnist for The Palm Beach Post
"Reputation, it has been said, is about who you are when people are watching. Character is about who you are when there's nobody in the room but you. Both matter, but of the two, character is far and away the more important. The former can induce others to think well of you. But only the latter allows you to think well of yourself.
Leonard Pitts Jr., columnist for The Miami Herald
...quote I like
"All in all, it (Florida) makes for an attractive place to either retire, raise a family on a budget or plot the overthrow of Western Civilzation."

Saddam is pronounced sah-DAHM. If you mispronounce it SAD-um, as former President Bush deliberately did years ago, you convert the meaning of the name in Arabic from 'one who confronts' to 'barefoot beggar.' Or so say the experts.
