| Wednesday, October 4, 2000BELIZE CITY- Snapped power lines dangled treacherously over Belize City's water-ladened streets. Aluminum roofs, were ripped off by the force of the hurricane winds caused by Keith.As hurricane Keith weakened to a tropical depression, with 33 mph winds, and moved over Mexico'c Yucatan Peninsula on Tuesday, emergency aid teams mobilized to assess the damage caused by it in Belize; with emergency aid such as blankets, plastic tarpaulins and water jugs. |

Belize City, Belize-Hurricane Keith toppled homes, ripped the roofs off hotels, and caused widespread flooding in Belize, as it swirled just off the country's Caribbean coast on Monday--with 75 mph winds.Floodings associated with Keith caused two deaths elsewhere in Central America--and at least one in Mexico. But the worst damage was in Belize; where streets were flooded with more than a foot of rain---falling since Sunday.No deaths or injuries were reported in Belize. However, the Red Cross reported that there was considerable damage on the storm-ravaged island of Ambergris Cay; which lies roughly in the storm's path, about 12 miles off Belize's coast. |

TAIWAN- Bilis, a category 5 hurricane, set off massive landslides in mountainous regions in mid-August. Due to the early warnings issued, only one person unfortunately died in a mudslide. The weather radar showed the storm bigger then Taiwan itself. |
