~VOLCANO~
- This site is about VOLCANOES and the terrible effects after the inevitable eruption. An erupting VOLCANO will completely destroy all objects that happen to be in its path.
- A VOLCANO is described as a vent in the crust of the earth, or other planet, from which molten or hot rocks and steam issue; also a hill or mountain composed wholly or in part of the ejected material.

MEXICO CITY-The Popocatepetl volcano outside Mexico City rumbled for a third straight day Saturday. It spewed ash, gas and water a mile above its crater. As a result, a moderate alert remained in effect. The government warned people to stay at least six miles away from the threatening volcano; which had erupted 76 times by Saturday afternoon. It was expected to continue belching ash over the next few days, the National Center for the prevention of Disasters reported. The emissions do not pose a threat to population centers in the area, the Center said. |

| GUATEMALA- The 12,346-foot, VolcaNO del Fuego--or Volcano of Fire, located twenty five miles southwest of Guatemala City, spewed white ash and terrified local residents in late September. Before this eruption, things had just begun to settle down after its last major eruption in May 1999. |
| During the summer, earthquakes and explosions rocked the residents living near 2686-foot Mount Oyama; which exploded on August 18, 2000.The volcano spewed smoke and rocks 26,000 feet over the island of Miyakejima. The eruption was the strongest blast from the volcano in 17 years.Japan's army was called in to clear volcanic ash off the roofs of homes. Two days later, a magnitude 5 earthquake on the seabed nearby, about 600 miles northwest of Tokyo, was felt throughout the neighboring Aomori and Iwate prefectures. |

GUATEMALA- The most active volcano in Guatemala is the Pacaya Volcano, on Monday, January 18th 2000, had a violent and spectacular eruption, with drastic and horrifying results. The eruption forced more than 1,000 people to leave their villages in haste. The volcano is located about 15 miles south of Guatemala City. The harshness of the eruption, sent the extremely hot lava rushing down the slopes and mountainsides, to the shock and dismay of the villagers.Billowing mass of ash vaulted up into the air for more than a mile. The villagers of El Patrocino, El Caracol and San Francisco de Sales were evacuated on Sunday--the day before the volcano erupted. |
