RATS Dominate Spring Regionals
Beneath the lead gray skies of Hagerstown, a new generation of Heroes moved to the front of the battle against Axis domination. In this weekend of fierce conflict, the curage of Kurt, David, and Cameron took the RATS from victim to survivor to combatant.
This battle was fought in the most severe surroundings. Driving sprinkles, frigid temperatures in the twenties (deg C) and big disgusting fish jumping in the water. Only the bravest captains would even dare bring their ships to such a meet. But the MAG Axis were there in force.
The events of Day one were built from terror. The massed Axis fleet, ships tuned to perfection, took to the pond opposed only by one Allied captain, David Ricci in his new North Carolina. On shore, the Allied negotiator staged a protest, standing for hours in the Rain with a plaintive sign "Be Kind to Allies". David's father, fearing for his son (and the non-watertight radio box in the NC) did the unthinkable so David could endure the unendurable and ordered a surrender. For the day only. Flags went up on the ships, and the North Carolina went forth, secure in the knowledge that it would only attack Axis vessels.
In Battle One and Battle Two fierce Axis squadrens attacked David, with little result except bb's in Axis bulsa. David deftly maneuvered his great ship away from Axis sidemounts, scoreing one beaching and one sink logged only due to equipment malfuntions on his untested ship. But on Day two, the tide of battle, and indeed the direction of the War, changed.
The RATS arrived in force. Prototype RAT Kurt Lewis with his sleek Pheonix and Cameron's Moury in his newly rebuilt California arrived. There were some problems with the California, so Cameron took command the Invincible from he RATS fleet. Now, there were three RATS on the water, a powerful force. Of course, the Axis at first, declined to battle such a fleet. So the RATS took to the water and staged some war games. Kurt, David and Cameron all did well, with the mechanically faultless Pheonix holding its own against the cruiser and battleship, Cameron did very well for a first out on the water, and David clearly signaled that he will be the RAT to beat in 98.
Later, after the RATS clarified that they would not beat up on the Axis too hard, the bravest of the Axis force decided to put boats in the water and battle flag fleets. A splendid time was had by all.
