Battle in the Cold Spring

Another Adventure of the Bravest Rookie

March 290, 1998. A legend begins on a quiet farm pond in rural Maryland.

For this was the day that the revitalized, more powerful, better equipped Axis fleet took their W.A. 98 campaign into the spring battle season. And there, standing alone against the Axis assault, was the Bravest Rookie once again. Captain David in his rookie built Invincible stood firm against the force of the feared Mushashi, and the dreaded Baconmaker, and more.

And for this battle- supposedly a friendly armed speed trial- the Axis unveiled even more fiendishly equipped ships and evil strategies. In this battle, the Axis Captains Tom 3The Turkey2 Tanner, Marty The Legend, and Frank Œhe needs no middle name1 Pittelli dispensed with the rule book entirely. Overspeeding, fiberglass hulled ships were put in the water with overpressured, overloaded spurting guns.

To their credit, Steve 3the Chicken2 Pavlovsky and Will 3most feared2 Montgomery put barely legal boats in the water. Be even these were a deadly Musashi and a d fearsome Nagato. And working behind the scenes, they turned Rookie Allied Trainee David Lawrence to the Dark Side and equipped his Kongo with a pump sporting a 1/4 inch outlet, and sabotaged RAT Kurt Lewis1s Phoenix, offering its captain a- what else- Bacon Maker.

It was against these that David made yet another stand, and it was here that he inflicted terrible damage on the foe. But even holding forth against such odds, David maintained the nobility of the Allied cause. Saluting David Lawrence on his first day out, David made a fast pass, shot up his Kongo a bit, and then gentlemanly shut off his bilge pump so he would sink; allowing his one time Ally the thrill a first day sink. And moments later, his honor shone again. The Legend Marty, sporting a rare blood lust, so over-drove his 18 second Bacon Maker that it dived beneath the waves. Selflessly, David dove into the frigid pond to save his pursuing enemy from a watery, radio-boxless grave.

But later, not his honor, but his courage and skill were put on display. Steve the Chicken Pavlovsky and Tom Turkey Tanner took to the pond under the guidance of Commander Pittelli with the intent of driving the Allied rookie under. On and on they battled, with Toms fiberglass hulled, 16 second Derflinger not content with guns only, but backing off to ram again and again. And Steve the Chicken skillfully maneuvered the giant Nagato to destroy David1s I boat. But even these tactics were without effect. And when David1s guns were empty and he called five, who had the only clock running? An Axis captain who held the minutes eternal. But Axis guns and a frozen clock were not enough; only a massive ram by the Derflinger served to open a breach in David1s hull,

Pump streaming, David drove to shore, And fighting to the last, he managed to maneuver the ship to pump-drench none other than commander Pittelli. With its last breath, David1s Invincible damned the Axis foe.
