On October 29th, 2000, 7-9 PM the League of Underwater Photographers was honored to present renowned underwater photographer Ernest Brooks, II in the Phelpps Auditorium at the John G. Shedd Aquarium. Mr. Brooks was the former Director of the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography, a fellow of the Professional Photographers of America, recipient of numerous photographic awards and his work is widely exhibited in international museums.
Mr. Brooks enabled thousands of aspiring photographers to achieve their artistic vision. Along the way, Mr. Brooks developed his own unique style of capturing the underwater world in luminous black and white photographs. Mr. Brooks, a long-time friend of the League of Underwater Photographers, MC'd the evening's presentations and also presented his own photographic works.
The ocean and underwater photography are among his main interests. In pursuit of dramatic marine images, he dove beneath the polar icecap and in almost every ocean on Earth. According to Mr. Brooks, "Today we are all guardians of our surroundings. Photography is the evidence that illustrates change and is a tremendously vocal tool in our need to witness the effect to our environment. My hopes and dreams beyond this day through my images are to show compassion to viewers worldwide so that they may follow this light path to instill concern for our architect's creation of balance and quality."
