Home of Mounce and Ingabo Jones, built 1716 in Amity Township. It is the oldest known house in Berks County. Mounce's father, Jonas Nilsson, was a Swedish soldier who accompanied Governor Printz to the short-lived colony of New Sweden in 1643. After the Dutch and then the English took over the colony, some Swedes, including Mounce and Ingabo, pushed into the back country following the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers. It thus happened that the first Europeans to settle in Berks County are descendants of Sweden's American colonists.
