Here are some of my favorite links:

They're separated into categories & I've given you some small details on each

MUSIC RELATED:

Break The Rules - The Paddy Kilrain Home Page This is a truly wonderful solo artist singer/songwriter from the Albany area. She reminds me of a young Ani DiFranco. Very poetic lyrics, very socially conscious and very entertaining when you catch her live performance. Unfortunately, she's also a college student so she rarely travels this far from Albany. I caught her performance at the NJ L/G/B/T Cultural Heritage Festival at the Garden State Arts Center last year on the alternative stage and bought her first two recordings (one tape, one CD). Apparently she's pressing a new CD so keep checking in for info.

Kin's (formerly Brigade) Home Page I've never seen these local Jersey girls live & I don't have any of their recordings BUT check out their site. They're beautiful women and the sound clips are tasty. Quite a few of the NJ girls that have seen LOIS LANE have recommended this project. So if you see them first, let me know what you think...

Laurie Berkner's Home Page (daguitar playa from LOIS LANE) Laurie did some children's recordings during the time she started touring with LOIS LANE. They were so well received, she's off doing the kid's thing 24-7. I'll miss her presence on stage with LOIS LANE but as always, wish her well. This site give you all the details about what Laurie's been up to.

Sara Stewart's Home Page This is where you'll find the latest on Sara's whereabouts & ramblings.....

Sara Stewart's Fan Club Home Page This site is intermittently maintained and limited to a photo of Sara.

SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS: This category is broken down into women's issues, human right's issues & community/environmental issues - if there any links that you support that I don't list here, please email me from the home page.

Women's -

Forevergreen's Night Club Home Page This is the hub of lesbian activity in Western Suffolk County. From fun raising, to fund raising to consciousness raising, if it's going on in the local community, you can find it here. This is where PHOENIX began and where our biggest support comes from. The old reputation as the "wrinkle room" has expired and the new proprietor has renovated both the site & who's coming to visit. If you haven't been here in a while, it's time to come back.

Women's Sports Foundation This non-profit organization does it all. They help schools understand title ix so they can comply. (it's dishearteneing that here are ANY schools in the USA that are NOT in compliance). They offer research grants & grants to female athletes for everything from training to travel (not just olympic athletes, this reaches to local communities as well). American women are fortunate to be leading the way for women in other places who aren't as "free" as we are, but as long as it's still seen as "women's" rights instead of "human" rights, we've still got a long way to go.

NARAL (National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League) The NARAL Foundation (one or 3 branches of NARAL) promotes effective pregnancy prevention programs and expanded access to reproductive health care, family planning services, contraception and age-appropriate sexuality education. Despite Roe v. Wade, access to abortion is increasingly tenuous. Over the last decade, the Supreme Court has granted states more power to place restrictions on the procedure, like requiring waiting periods & counseling for women seeking abortions. Last year, the Senate nearly voted to criminalize so-called "partial birth" abortion. What's more, legislation passed by Congress does not allow federal funding to provide abortions for the following: poor women enrolled in Medicaid, Peace Corps volunteers, Native American women covered by the Indian Health Service, women in federal prison, women in the military, and the 1.2 million federal employees. While politicians that WE elected continue to make obtaining a legal abortion more difficult, if not impossible, legally a nationwide campaign of violence, vandalism anti-choice rhetoric and threatening Internet "hit lists" has resulted in a dwindling number of doctors willing or trained to perform abortions. In fact, 86% of counties in the U.S. have no abortion provider. NARAL has been a leading advocate of reproductive freedom and dignity for women choosing abortion since 1969. They educate Americans about reproductive rights and health issues, elects pro-choice candidates, and lobbies in Congress and state legislatures for pro-choice policies. When women were dying from back-alley abortions, NARAL fought to build broad-based support for the right to safe, legal abortion. Now that women are in danger of losing that right, NARAL activated America's pro-choice majority, championed reproductive freedom in the courts and advocated access to family planning and abortion services in Congress and the state houses. Fortune Magazine has described NARAL as "one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America." With 30 state affiliates & 500,000 members and supporters nationwide, NARAL is combating the political and religious extremism and senseless anti-choice violence that threatens our personal liberties.
If there is one issue that requires immediate attention & support THIS IS IT.

NOW (National Organization FOR Women) You're a sales manager for a TV chain's local affiliate. You know you're making $10,000 a year less than a man with the same job in a similar-sized market.
You're trying to juggle the demands of raising your toddlers and the constant stress of your critical care nursing job. Your husband doesn't do diddly at home.
You're a college student who was raped on a date with a guy you thought you could trust. You don't socialize anymore and your grades are slipping.
You leave your marriage after 11 years of physical and emotional abuse. You work double shifts to support your kids, but then a heart attack with no health insurance forces you onto welfare.
You're a lesbian who feels isolated. But you're afraid that if you come out, you'll lose custody of your kids.
You finally launched a new ad agency owned and staffed by African-American women. Business is booming, but when you go to the bank for a loan, they look at you like you're from Mars.
This is who NOW is for.

I'm running out of finger tips so I'll add more links in a few days -
