Retired Railroad Machinist
Dies in Nursing Home

Noel Henry Slaten of 1105 Ryder, retired railroad machinist, died at a Memphis nursing home at 9 a.m. yesterday after a long illness. He was 78.

Born at Decatur, Ala., Mr. Slaten worked for various railroads for 45 years before his retirement. He retired from his job as a machinist at Southern Railway System several years ago. Mr. Slaten moved to Memphis from Decatur in 1914.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Addie Slaten; four daughters, Mrs. Leon Billings of 1494 Stacey, Mrs. Pauline Dodson of 2059 Oliver, Mrs. Curtis Melton of Lorain, Ohio, and Mrs. Patrick Howard of 947 Greenwood; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie McClusky of Decatur and Mrs. Ida Price of 1105 Ryder; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Cosmopolitan Funeral Home has charge.
