Dear Lowry & Hazel1,

Just thinking of you and decided to drop a line. Hope both of you are well. We are well but tired. Has been a very busy summer & fall. We still haven't closed our son's estate and that has taken some time and effort. You notice we have moved and that really took some effort as we moved ourselves in a U-haul truck. Mom2 has been in the hospital twice and Dad3 once this summer, fall. We are having to give both of them constant attention. Mom stays at Catherines4 and Dad stays there in the day time; then I bring him to our house at night. We had to separate them at night as no one could sleep. They are both failing fast, both mentally and physically. But that is the natural order of things.

We have not heard from any of the cousins except the local ones. We have visited and phoned several of them since we moved.

Have you all been able to travel and go places this summer? If we live long enough we do plan to come to your part of the country - some day.

The enclosed article5 appeared in the Oct 4 issue of the Tate County Democrat. I don't know who submitted it (maybe you did) but I thought you would like a copy. If someone has already sent one, just give this one to someone else. They are making up a Tate County History book and each week an item that will be in the book, is printed in the Democrat. There have been a number of pictures. Some of the people are not identified, they are so old. Should be an interesting History book.

Well, it is almost Dad's bed time (7:30 pm) so I best sign off and make sure he get[s] his P.J.'s on.

Write when you feel like it, and we look forward to next June.

Love from both of us
Gene and Marion6

Notes:

1 Lowry Lee Stewart (1906 - 1998) and his wife Hazel Clementine Rollins (1911 - 1997).
2 Jewell Marguerite Freeze (1903 - 1993), daughter of Sallie Moina Shanahan and Daniel Franklin Freeze, wife of Carl Embrey and mother of Carl Eugene 'Gene' Embrey (the letter writer).
3 Carl Embrey (1900 - 1996), son of Henry Parker Embrey and Cora Lee McElroy, husband of Jewell Marguerite Freeze and father of Carl Eugene 'Gene' Embrey (the letter writer).
4 Annie Catherine Embrey Mask, daughter of Jewell M. Freeze and Carl Embrey, wife of Will Mask and sister of Gene Embrey (the letter writer).
5 Article when published in the Tate County Democrate was entitled "Irish stowaway finds new home in Senatobia" and the history book that is mentioned that it was eventually published in is entitled, "THE HERITAGE OF TATE COUNTY, MS", published 1991 by the Tate County Mississippi Genealogical & Historical Society, P.O. Box 974, Senatobia MS 38668-0974. The article appeared on page 691-692 under the heading, Michael William Shanahan and rather than being submitted by Lowry Stewart as Gene supposed, was submitted by Mrs. James G. Freeze [Modena Laverne Key (1925 - 2000)]. Modena's husband was James Griffin Freeze (1920 - 2005) the youngest son of Sallie Moina Shanahan and Daniel Franklin Freeze.
6 Carl Eugene 'Gene' Embrey (1930 - 2007), and his wife Marion Pace.
