Feb 1, 1987 Dear Lowry & Hazel:
Sorry to be so long responding to your lovely
cards and the prayers. It wasn't God's Will for Jim I have been kept busy writing notes to people for food, flowers and 44 people gave donations to our Church and 3 people gave 11 Gideon Bibles in his memory. And still they are coming in and the people are so thoughtful to bring me food. It sure helps when you are not interested in cooking. My health, is not good. Angina (heart trouble) -2- makes me "toe the line". Have to take so much medicine for some several years (Jim was also diabetic).
Margaret
(Phillips) -3- I want to send you a write-up about Jim. He was mayor of Olive Branch 4 years 1942-1946. Our town is now over 2,000 population & the streets are all paved, with curbs & gutters, good utility service etc. The city limits go to the Tennessee line in places.Must get more letters written please keep remembering me in your prayers. You two have some years to love & enjoy each other. Jim was 91 in August & I was 85 in November counting our 20 year engagement, we had 71 years to our credit. Times were so lean we couldn't get married earlier. Love to each of you & write when you can. Oh, one other thing I have an Eastern Star friend who lives at 2720 Rhode Island N.E., Albuquerque, New M. 87110. Her sister who lives here, she visited this fall and we talked on the phone. Her name is Mrs. Charles O'Conner. Her husband is dead too. Call her sometime. -4- I went to Church today. We had a big crowd, the balcony was packed as well. Last Sunday we were "iced in". I've had to move down stairs because of heart, but I sure do miss our bedroom upstairs.
Roger Maybe this long letter will help make up for being so long in writing. Let me hear when you can.
Love,
