Who We Are:
Lions Clubs International

Lions District 4-N
Lions District 4-N is compri-sed of 44 Lions Clubs from
Nevada and Northeastern California. District 4-N supports a number
of service activities other than vision services. Lions LEAD (Quest) Project
helps in the fight against child and teen drug and alcohol abuse. The Student
Speaker Contest honors top-notch student orators with college scholarships.
The District actively encourages membership in the Lions Eye Foundation
of California and Nevada. Since 1990, the district has sponsored Lions Camp
Dat-So-La-Lee, a week long camp in Elko's Lamoille Canyon for underprivileged
eight and nine year old child-
-ren. Recently, the District placed closed-caption devices for television
viewing in the homes of all deaf Nevada children and placed television "voice
over" devices to assist the blind. The Lions of District 4-N have built
a record of volunteering in "at risk" schools as mentors, readers,
Junior Achievement instructors and any where else they may be needed. The
Lions of Washoe County, Nevada alone, in the past ten years have donated
1.4 million dollars to provide glasses and eye-care to needy children in
that county.
Lions
are more than 1.4 million strong...men and women...young and old. You
will find us in more than 180 countries and geographical areas from the
hinterlands of Australia and Brazil to thriving urban centers like New
York City and Milan. We speak dozens of languages and vary in nature and
customs.
We share a common spirit. since our beginning in 1917, we have been united
in a single cause: helping those less fortunate. We are tackling the tough
problems like blindness and drug abuse as well as diabetes awareness -
and finding help and training for the deaf, disabled, underprivileged
and the elderly. In fact, whatever the community needs to make life better,
we're there to help.
We are the youngest major social service organization, yet we have grown
to be the world's largest. We are succeeding because we have embraced
all those committed to building a brighter future for the world and themselves.
And, with a new generation of enlightened members, Lions clubs are working
smarter and faster with greater commitment than ever before.
We are the Lions...,and We Serve!
