This is my first attempt at a MOC page, so it's going to take me a while to really get this going. Right now, my structure bricks are in storage except for my BURPs and my trees, so as yet all buildings and scenes are still in the planning stage. Maps will be involved, and we all know what kind of timeframe we're talking about when maps are mentioned. The characters I am developing, however, have been pretty much fleshed-out beforehand. They are mostly from a fantasy novel I wrote when I was younger.
The hero/king is Malcolm Thorne, king of the nation-state Folswyrc. His chief general is Calyn Warkellen, an outlander exiled from her own land, and it is really around her that the story unfolds. The other main character is Elsur, a Mage-turned-Warlock and Malcolm's chief foe in a Great War engulfing the world they inhabit. His armies are headed by the wraith of Tavic Marr. My novel takes place after the Great War, when Elsur has been put down and Malcolm uses the ensuing instability following the war to effect, by both honorable and underhanded methods, a unification of the nation states that are known as Folslyn.
I wrote my novel as a political thriller rather than a traditional fantasy with elves, orcs, trolls, and magic. However, political intrigue doesn't translate too well to LEGO®--at least not as well as traditional fantasy, so the LEGO® world I'm planning now will have plenty of elves, orcs, trolls, and magic.

My current project is "Mount BURP" (working title). It's a mountain built mostly from dark gray BURPs, tan plates, and gray and black bricks. It's being built on 4 large gray baseplates and will feature a cave for a dragon on the west side as well as 2 outposts built into it on its north and south sides. Its east side will be mostly flat, because abutting the mountain to the east and partially built into it will be Malcolm's castle. Right now, I am aiming for something at least 2.5 feet tall and 2.5 feet square. Surrounding the dragon cave to the west of the mountain will be a dense wood, called "Ruin Forest." The Ruin will be the home of an elfin folk, the Alariel.
How I love bulk ordering! Even the little pines, if you put enough of them down, will make a nice forest. Now that the larger pines, the fruit trees, and they cypress trees (!!!) are available in bulk, too, I've got all the greenery I need to make a fantastic forest. I made the entire forest uneven by mixing my large pines in with the small ones randomly, and by building the forest on green bricks and mega-bricks (such as those in the now easily and cheaply found 6097s) anywhere from 0 to 4 brick-lengths high. This fits in with my story, as the forest is now fairly impossible to navigate except on foot, and resembles a maze to a certain extent. I'll probably play a little bit more later with the forest maze idea. The river (the blue base plates) will be shaped by some more green plates I'm using as river banks (they also will hold all the baseplates together). I'm not sure how much further I'll extend this platform beyond the river, but across the river I plan on putting the first few Alariel settlements. That's a way off, though. I'm still working on the mountain. After I finish the mountain, I will start on Malcolm's castle.
