Lawrence S. Hakim, MD, FACS, Diplomate of the American Board of Urology, and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, currently is: Head, of the Section of Sexual Medicine, Infertility and Prosthetics at the Cleveland Clinic Florida, located in Weston, Florida.
Dr. Hakim was formerly Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Miami Medical Center for the past five years. He also directed related clinics at the Jackson Memorial Hospital and Miami Veterans' Affairs Medical Center in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Hakim, a Board-Certified urologist directs a state of the art, academic center at the Cleveland Clinic Florida. They offer one of the only Academic Centers in the Southeastern United States specializing in the diagnosis and all available medical and surgical treatments of sexual dysfunction in men and women, Peyronie's disease and male infertility.
After receiving his medical degree (MD) from the Downstate Medical Center, in New York, Dr. Hakim completed his general surgery and urology residency training at the State University of New York Health Science Center, in Brooklyn, New York with Richard J. Macchia, MD.
Dr. Hakim received his post-graduate Fellowship training in the areas of Sexual Dysfunction, Male Infertility and Microsurgery at the Boston University Medical Center with Dr. Irwin Goldstein and Dr. Robert Oates.
Dr. Hakim is the author of the acclaimed book, “The Couple’s Disease: Finding a Cure for your Lost Love Life” and has authored numerous academic abstracts and publications in the peer-reviewed literature and has written a number of textbook chapters in the areas of sexual dysfunction, priapism, penile microsurgical revascularization surgery and male infertility.
Dr. Hakim is a popular invited speaker both nationally and internationally, lecturing extensively in the areas of Male and Female Sexual Dysfunction and Infertility. He currently serves as a Reviewer to various peer-reviewed journals, including the International Journal of Impotence Research (IJIR) and Urology.
Dr. Hakim has a wide surgical experience in the field of impotence and infertility, including penile prosthesis implantation, (including "difficult" and "re-implantation/reconstruction" procedures), Peyronie's reconstructive surgery and penile microsurgical revascularization. Dr. Hakim has performed surgical procedures nationally and internationally as part of physician training seminars.
Various male infertility procedures offered include: microscopic varicocelectomy, microscopic vasovasostomy and vaso-epididymostomy and microsurgical epididymal sperm extraction (MESA). Dr. Hakim works closely with noted female reproductive endocrinology centers, and the various infertility procedures are often used in combination with Advanced Reproductive Technologies, such as IVF and ICSI (intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).
Dr. Lawrence S. Hakim is associated with numerous professional societies, including the American Urological Association, The American College of Surgeons, The American Medical Association, the Florida Urological Association and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (formerly American Fertility Society).
