Photo provided in early 2005 by Patrick Hoffman of his great-great-grandfather, Irish immigrant Andrew Nolan, with a
woman Patrick suspects is Andrew's second wife, Maria Haas. She was much younger and married Andrew
in 1877. The name of the photography studio is at the bottom of the picture. Persons with information about
the photo or Maria Hass are asked to contact Patrick or webmaster Lewis Nolan. Patrick obtained this and
other photos of the late 1800s from the collection of his grandmother, Emma Hass/Kiefer Hoffman, wife of Archie
Hoffman, who was the oldest child of Andrew's daughter Julia (Nolan) Hoffman.
George Napjus of Maryland and Lithuania, like Patrick a great-great grandson of Andrew Nolan,
responded to Patrick's request for information
by writing "The photo of Andrew and Maria is fabulous. I've carefully compared it with my two originals of Andrew
(already posted on the photo site) and agree that this new one is almost certainly of Andrew. The young woman with
him is the epitome of a young German hausfrau and their ages match (Maria would have been about 30 and Andrew
about 56), so I agree that this must have been Maria."
