As of today, nearly 500,000 people in the United States have been diagnosed with AIDS; more than 300,000 have died. In less than 15 years, AIDS has become the principal killer of all Americans between the ages of 25 and 44. Currently, there is no cure.
To commemorate this worldwide affliction, the United States Post Office has issued an AIDS Awareness 34-cent postage stamp.
