the fall I recommend netting the ponds to prevent excess leaf debris from
falling or blowing into them. A great deal of muck can build up in an
open pond as this example shows.

As dead leaves break down over the winter months, it can harm or even kill your fish. The protective netting is not obvious or unsightly whatsoever. In fact, there is a net over every pond in the images below.
