Boys Home 2/6/63-6/3/65
When I arrived in 1962, the first boy I met at Boys' Home was Bryant Powell, who was later killed in Vietnam. My first cottage was the Civitan. One of my roommates was Frank Simmons, who was also killed in Vietnam. Our housemother was Mrs. Maultsby. Some of you remember when there were 16 boys to one housemother in each cottage. Well, Mrs. Maultsby could fend for herself really well. She walked around with her paddle, and was quite accomplished with it. Photo Debbie B, and David 2003
I was soon transferred to the Jaycee Cottage, where I remained until I left in 1965. Mrs. Emert was our housemother when I first got there. She was a delightful woman. She would bake goodies for us on weekends and have sing-alongs.
