A Moment in Time
by Allison Mull

I see the blue, and I see the grey.
I think of why we are all here today.
My side, the North, wants for all slaves to be free.
Their side, the South, wants to keep slavery.
And now we are engaged
In this great Civil War
Both sides fighting for the
cause that they're for.
On each side half of their soldiers lay dead.
Most of them shot up with the other sides lead.
And I watch as a man shoots himself in the head.
And others they died, because they hadn't been fed.
Another man I see was being sliced by a sword.
There is so much that we all have endured.
One man had a bayonet stabbed
Through his chest.
He was one of the many put through
The ultimate test.
And as I stand there for a second
In the grass that had been reddened.
A bullet goes straight through my heart.
And as I slowly depart,
I imagine if all slaves were free
And we never had been in this great rivalry.
