Happy First Birthday, Scout!!!
December 27, 2001
We knew that Scout had to have a super birthday day! So, we made a point of doing all things that were Scout (within reason). Unfortunately, it was raining and the river level was too high to go to the beach. But, we managed through the day!
We started the day off right with some wet food. Mommy didn’t know Daddy had done that and gave the kids some snacks too in the morning. Oh well, they weren’t telling.
Scout REALLY wanted to go to the dog park. So, even though it was raining we went. And guess what? We weren’t the only ones! The funny thing was all the other dogs were also retrievers of one kind or another. It was fun. Scout rolled in every puddle he could find and made a BIG mess in the car.
When we got home, Mommy decorated Scout’s cake, which she had baked before we left. It was a carob cake with peanuts in it! Yummy! The topping was a (nonfat) cream cheese frosting with carob chips (no chocolate for these dogs!). Because a candle wouldn’t be a good idea, we used a stick of rawhide and a little red frosting to make a candle and flame!
While Mommy finished the cake, Daddy gave Scout a big candle made out of rawhide. Inside it was lots of rawhide sticks! It was fun!
Scout had BIG eyes when we gave him his cake! Kira couldn’t help sneaking an early taste (after three birthdays, she knows the drill!). But, Scout couldn’t believe it was for him! He LOVED it and can’t wait for his birthday to come again!
The only downside was that Scout’s birthday present intimidated him a little. It was a HUGE stuffed snowdog toy. Eventually, Kira convinced him it was a great toy! Now...if he would only stop doing what he does with that toy! (You probably don't want to know) Ugh, if only adolescence would pass! All in all, everyone showed Scout what a special boy he is! He got lots of cards and gifts from all his doggy friends and family! Happy First Birthday, Scout!
