NOTE: The following names and dates are taken from "Caroline County, Va.,
Court Papers" by William L. Hopkins. Most of the book is made up of
abstracts of whole or partial wills, deed or administrations, etc. presented
as evidence in court cases in the late 1700s and through the early 1800s.
These are all of the loose court records remaining from the creation of the
county to the mid 1800s. Fortunately, the Caroline County Order Books were
not destroyed and can be very useful in determining that wills or deeds did
exist.

Mason and her grandchn Samuel Selden and Mary Selden. Her executors
were her sons and John Moncure. The three executors have since died and
George Mason apptd his son, George Mason, and friend Martin Cockburn as
his executors. Samuel Selden died an infant without issue and Mary Selden
married Mann Page, now decd., and had chn to wit John Page, William Page
and Jane Page. Mary Page later married Wilson Cary Selden and she died in
1787 without any issue by the second husband. Jane Page is now Jane Swann,
wife of Thomas Swann.

Colonel George Mason (1628-1686) lived upon Accakeek Creek. His only
known son, Colonel George Mason (16 -1716), sold that plantation in
1694 and moved to Dogue Neck in the present county of Fairfax in which
area he and his progeny continued. In 1694 another George Mason (16 -
1711) purchased land on upper Aquia Run in present Overwharton Parish
and being contemporary with Colonel George Mason (16 -1716) he is
styled on the records George Mason of Aquia. He seems to have been the
ancestor of the majority of the persons mentioned in "The Register of
Overwharton Parish". His son, George Mason of Aquia (16 -ca 1719/30),
died testate but his will is in lost Will Book "K"[1721-1730], page 340.
He appears to have been the father of John Mason (1722-ca 1796), also of
Aquia, who married in 1747 Mary Nelson (172?-ca 1801), daughter of Henry
Nelson. Their eldest son was the well known Baptist clergyman, the
Reverend William Mason (Nov. 30, 1748-April 26, 1823) of Culpeper Co.,
while their youngest son was Colonel Enoch Mason (ca 1769-1828) of
Clover Hill, Stafford County. He was a prominent attorney-at-law and
married April 28, 1796 Lucy Wiley Roy, a descendant of Colonel George
Mason (1628-1686); they have a number of distinguished progeny.
