About The Artist
A native of upstate New York, Kurt Vitch works full time creating finely crafted fish carvings for customers from all over the world. Kurt's artistic skills have been recognized by earning many awards, including numerous World Championship awards - several first places among them - and many other national, regional, and local awards.
Kurt's work has been featured magazines such as The In-Fisherman, Wildlife Art, and the New York State Conservationist. Kurt's carving that was featured in The In-Fisherman magazine was the first time a three dimensional piece of art work has accompanied an article in that publication. Kurt feels this was a major step in having fish carvings seen as "artwork" and not just as a craft. He also feels honored that they chose his artwork to be the first to be featured like that.
Kurt has also written and photographed several articles for Breakthrough magazine. Breakthrough magazine is the leading taxidermy and carving magazine, and it has recieved many awards for its publication quality.
An ardent outdoor enthusiast, Kurt began his career carving fishing lures. Today he spends any free time away from his studio pursueing his other intersts of wooden canoes and canoe building, photography, traditional archery, and of course fishing.
