Artist's Statement

Basic shapes, such as the circle, square and triangle, are the foundation for everything we see and touch around us. Since the beginning of time, these shapes have been recorded by many artisans as they viewed and expressed their ideas of the world. In my artwork, I have chosen to focus on the design elements of the Bauhaus masters, and the symbols of a variety of cultures, especially those of the Native American and Polish peoples. I have always found these designs and symbols to be fascinating because of the many variations of their designs, their intent to communicate through those designs, and their need to respect and beautify their environment. I arrange in my multi-medium works on cloth, paper, or canvas the ancient symbols, as I too have the need to communicate using my artistic abilities. Through my work I hope the beautiful symbols and styles created by a variety of peoples will be seen in a new light, giving these master designers a renewed recognition for their efforts and skills. Also, like those students and masters of the Bauhaus school, I hope to promote a continuing awareness of the elements of design and nature as seen in the basic shapes that make up the foundation of the world around us.

"Everything has a way of coming full circle.

It takes patience and perseverance to see a dream through...

To close that circle.

Because...some dreams, like some circles,

can be much bigger than others."
