A little note from Aztek721:
{Or, why I'm here}
Well, I used to collect trading cards. Not just ANY trading cards, specifically, non-sport trading cards, fantasy art trading cards, movie trading cards, anime trading cards, well, you get the idea. I started around 1991 when I first came across the Jim Lee X-Men cards at a nearby store, and I was hooked...
And then I found ATCs, also known as ACEOs.
It was quite an accident. I was searching for 'Art Trading Cards' and typed in 'Artist Trading Cards'. What a vast difference three letters makes! My first site visited...Ed's Artist Trading Cards Ed Beals, with his no-nonsense explanation of the hobby. That led me to both the defunct X-wave community, and Joumana Medlej's ATC's.
That was the end of me. I wanted to do this! I could do this!
Of course, WHAT to do became my next concern. I like to draw, but I have a tendancy to draw...well...'squiggles'. At least that's what my mom deemed them the first time she saw them.
"When are you going to stop drawing those squiggles and draw something real?"
Ouch. Maybe not. Hm. After a few discussions with a 'real' artist friend of mine, he deemed my 'squiggles' 'Abstract Art' (TAKE THAT, mom! - LOL) and convinced me to jump in with both feet. I worried for about a week longer and joined the X-Wave community.
It QUICKLY pulled me in. When X-wave became the ATC Exchange, I followed. When I got a teeny tiny bit over-enthusiastic about ATC's (who, me???) I joined the Nervousness Forums, which take ATC's (and all other forms of mailart) to a new level.
Well, let's just say I'm hooked and leave it there.
Later!
