Hello Midtown Madness Fans. Today I am going to share with you a little trick I have learned to escape the clutches of those pesky Chicago Cops. As you know, the police in Microsoft's Midtown Madness are ruthless in thier effort to take you off the road.
With the introduction of custom, high performance add-on cars, this is very easy to do. Using the stock vehicles to do this is somewhat more of a challenge, as they are not quite as fast as these "Supercars". [I like the Suburu 555 GT SV *see my downloads page*] What I do is enter cruise mode, lower the traffic level a little bit, [fewer fatalities] and go out and find some cops. As you have probably noticed, sometimes the police seem to be paying more attention to thier doughnuts than the traffic. But, it's not too hard to get them to chase you. Just drive past them a little over the speed limit, and they're on ya. So now, all you have to do is lead them on a merry chase through town, and over to the museum. Make sure you're not too far ahead of them, or they wont be caught in our little trap. [But you will still get away] The museum is shaped sort of like a big "H". And the passage is right in the middle.[Again, see map] Check out these screen shots of the trap, "in full operation".
But I have discovered the police cant see you when you enter the art museum. [see map below] If you havn't seen it yet, there is a hidden "passage" through the middle of the art museum on the east side of town, near the lake. You can use this to literally "disappear" from the police.
Believe me, some of these new cars take this sim to a new level over the stock offerings. With superior handling capabilities, and speeds up to, and beyond, 200 MPH, you can easily out run the police, but for fun, you cant beat a good high speed chase.
*NOTE: There are other "hidden" shortcuts, such as the Observatory, and the Aquarium, but they do not work as well as the museum. In fact, the cops will follow you right through the Aquarium, and the Observatory leaves you with no way to get away undetected.
I make a game of it by seeing how many cops I can gather, and leading them into the trap. You can enter from either side of the "H", even though only one side has a "concealed" entrance. As soon as you enter the building, you magically "disappear" to them, and they are left looking around, wondering: "What the heck happened to that guy". You can just cruise out the other side, and go find some more cops to trap, until you get so many cop cars trapped that the entrances are blocked.
