Combat Flight Simulator / Flight Simulator '98

One of the best things about Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator is that you can add custom planes and scenarios off the internet, or create them yourself. There are literally thousands of add ons available for this sim. If you havn't been taking advantage of them, your missing out. Here is the place to start. Try out some of my own missions. They are easy to set up. Just unzip these files into your CFSmissions folder, and your ready to go. Then, you can get a mission editor, [my favorite editor is available below] and try your hand at creating your own missions. It's really easy once you get started.


Mission files:

"Stalker" mission- Escort a low flying B24 to it's target some 50 mi. behind the line. If... I mean When you get there, help the bomber destroy the ground targets, and then make sure she gets home safe. Sound easy? You'll have your hands full.

"Bomber recovery-Deep rescue"- We have a damaged bomber inbound, and a flight of German fighters is closing in to finish it off. Can you get there in time to save it?

"The Devil's Pitchfork" You are part of a large assault force on a German airbase. You'll have plenty of help on this one, but the enemy wont be caught napping when you arrive.

"Fight for your life- Enhanced version" This is a modified version of Frank W. Kelley's, Fight for your life mission, where, while testing your new MK9 with your wingman, you run straight into an ambush of six 109's. Fight them off as before, but in this version, your not through yet... Can you stay alive?

"Escort Training mission" Follow your squad leader on this "Back to basics" escort patrol. Protect the bombers as they unload on some un-welcome ships just off-shore. This one is short range, and moves quickly. Have fun.

"Attack on SS hideout - (Enhanced version)" Yes, this is one of the missions included in CFS. I added a secondary objective and more ground forces to protect it. Take out the high ranking SS officials, then take out thier last remaining communications center located nearby. Watch out for the heavy weapons convoy moving between the lake and the radio facility.

Flight Simulator Scenery viewer / Flight planner-

NAV 1.9
Nav 1.9 is a very powerful navagation aid and scenery viewer for Flight Simulator '95 through 2000. It will read your Flight Sim files and display a world map, providing all the airport locations, navagation aids like NDB's, VORS and ILS, giving you a very easy interface to plan your flights to or from anywhere in the world.[as long as you have the scenery area loaded]
It also features a "module" which actually communicates with Flight Sim during operation, and will show your location, altitude, heading and speed. And you can pick any location on the map, and click on the "Fly to" button, and NAV will set your autopilot to take you right where you want to go. I am not a "real world" pilot, but I do love Flight Sim. and this program really helped me learn how to use the navagation aids properly. If you are a serious Flight Simmer, you will really benefit from this program.

Flight Simulator '98 [or Combat Flight Simulator] Scenery:

High mountain peaks, deep gorges, the waterfall and two airstrips. One major airport and a grass strip at the village. And the beautiful beaches that surround this tropical paradise are not to be missed.
I dont use "Free Flight" too often, but this is a beautiful place to do it! Or, for those of us that just HAVE TO fight, it works for "Quick Combat" and Multiplayer sessions, too*

CFS mission editor- This is Keith Bedfords easy to use mission editor. It works directly on the mission files, and DOES NOT require MS Excel. Try it now!

 Gunsight painting utility- Are you tired of the ugly, bold, always in the way stock gunsight? With this utility, you can make your own. Any style you want. Has the ability to control transparency, too. This is a MUST HAVE addition to CFS.

CFS Aircraft:

Spitfire MkIX
This plane is a repaint of a very cool Spitfire MkIX I downloaded from Flightsim.com.[Complete credits of all those involved are included] I also "punched up" the guns!(a little bit) Very stable and fast.

Two new planes available NOW!

Both of these very cool planes are the original work of master modeler Shigeru Tanaka. He is well known in the flight sim world for his very acurate renderings of many different ships. These are two of my personal favorites. A P51 Mustang, and a Spitfire MKI.

This is a GREAT looking P47! Really detailed! Spinning prop and moving control surfaces make for a VERY realistic flying experience.

Combat Flight Sim, Tips & Tricks:


*Enable cheat warning[for multiplayer]. Simply find your "combatfs.cfg" file [in CFS root folder], open in Notepad, or other word processing program, scroll down to the [MULTIPLAYER] section, find the line that says
"DISPLAY CHEAT WARNING=0", change the "0" TO "1", save the file, and Thats it.
Some people dont know it, but, in multiplayer, when a player hits the "ESC", or "ALT" keys, they enter a "Suspended State".[such as when returning to the ready room] But, thier plane remains visable in the game, following it's last "Active" coarse. Any hits within this time dont score as hits, at all. [I'm sure you can see how this would allow someone to use this "condition", to cheat] This code will let you know who, when and how many times they enter this "suspended state".
There is a few other things you can do within the "combatfs.cfg" file. Add this "Section" to combatfs.cfg:

*Note:Dont include the underlined explanations. They are just for your reference here.
[CHEATS]
ALLOW_SLEW=0 Allows "slew" mode in missions, as well as Quick Combat.
BOMB_TRAINER=0 Gives you a cool bomb sight. [never miss again]
FREE_WARP=0 Allows you to "X" through a mission, even if there are targets remaining.
ONESHOT_KILL=0 But remember, one shot will kill YOU, too.
SHOW_DAMAGE_LOG=0 Not sure what this one does.
The "0" is for "off". To enable each feature, just change the "0" to a "1"
