| A while back, while wading the web, I stumbled across the
website of the "Global Fly Fisher. In my further examination, I found a wonderful
article by Bas Verschoor called
"
Philatelic Phlies." His article is a very well written item on
the melding of two hobbies, fly tying and stamp collecting. Until
that time, I had only "collected" a single set of the United States flies
which were issued in 1991 (to tie someday). Bas's article
fanned a flame and off I went to collect the many fishing fly stamps
that have been issued.
I have now become quite proficient in sifting through
eBay to
locate the various stamp sets and am still attempting to round
out my collection of MNH (mint, never hinged), FDCs (First Day
Card or Cover), strips, se-tenant strips (se-tenant: an unseparated
set of stamps, usually a strip), and numerous other stamp collecting
identifiers that slip my mind at the moment.
What followed was the challenge of finding the recipes to tie
the various patterns. I have spent hours trying to find them
on the web and have assembled my collection here. This is a
work in progress (aka: Under Construction) but I get tired of
seeing those little signs posted around the web. Here, where
I am still in need, I have left a blank or posted some notation.
If you can help complete this collection for the benefit of
others, please share any information you have with me and I will
post as I can.
As of August 2003, I had the good fortune of establishing contact with
Mr. Barry Kent who tied the flies for the Transkei stamps. He has
provided some much needed recipes!
I will provide links where I can and do have this LINKS
Page.
