YE

2: 7 Allah hath set a seal On their hearts and on their hearing, And on
2: 7 their eyes is a veil; Great is the penalty they (incur).
2: 21 O ye people! Adore your Guardian-Lord,Who created you And those who
2: 21 came before you, That ye may have the chance To learn righteousness
2: 22 Who has made the earth your couch, And the heaven your canopy; And
2: 22 sent down rain from the heavens; And brought forth therewith Fruits
2: 22 for your sustenance; Then set not up rivals unto Allah When ye know
  2: 22 (the truth).
2: 23 And if ye are in doubt As to what We have revealed From time to
2: 23 time to our servant. Then produce a Sura Like thereunto; And call
2: 23 your witnesses or helpers (if there are any) besides Allah, If your
  2: 23 (doubts) are true.
2: 24 But if ye cannot- And of a surety ye cannot- Then fear the Fire
2: 24 Whose fuel is Men and Stones,- Which is prepared for those Who
  2: 24 reject Faith.
2: 28 How can ye reject The faith in Allah?- Seeing that ye were without
2: 28 life, And He gave you life; Then will He cause you to die, And will
2: 28 again bring you to life; And again to Him will ye return.
2: 30 Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I will create A vicegerent on
2: 30 earth," They said, "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make
2: 30 Mischief therein and shed blood?- Whilst we do celebrate Thy
2: 30 praises And glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said: "I know what ye know
  2: 30 not."
2: 31 And He taught Adam the nature Of all things; then He placed them
2: 31 Before the angels, and said: "Tell Me The nature of these if ye are
  2: 31 right."
2: 33 He said :"o Adam! tell them Their natures." When he had told them,
2: 33 Allah said: "Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of heavens
2: 33 And earth, and I know what ye reveal And what ye conceal?"
2: 35 We said : "O Adam ! dwell thou And thy wife in the Garden; And eat
2: 35 of the bountiful things therein As (where and when) ye will, but
2: 35 approach not this tree, Or ye run into harm and transgression."
2: 36 Then did Satan make them slip From the (Garden), and get them out
2: 36 Of the state (of felicity) in which They had been. We said : "Get
2: 36 ye down, all (ye people), With enmity between yourselves. On earth
2: 36 will be your dwelling place And your means of livelihood - For a
  2: 36 time.
2: 38 We said: "Get ye down all from here; And if, as is sure, there
2: 38 comes to you Guidance from Me," whosoever Follows My guidance, on
2: 38 them Shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
2: 42 And cover not Truth With falsehood, nor conceal The Truth when ye
2: 42 know (what it is).
2: 44 Do ye enjoin right conduct On the people, and forget (To practise
2: 44 it) yourselves, And yet ye study the Scripture? Will ye not
  2: 44 understand?
2: 51 And remember We appointed Forty nights for Moses, And in his
2: 51 absence you took The calf (for worship), And ye did grievous wrong.
2: 54 And remember Moses said To his people: " O my people! Ye have
2: 54 indeed wronged Yourselves by your worship of the calf: So turn (in
  2: 54  repentance) to your Maker, And slay yourselves (the wrong-doers);
2: 54 That will be better for you In the sight of your Maker." Then He
2: 54 turned towards you (in forgiveness); For He is Oft-Returning, Most
  2: 54 Merciful.
2: 55 And remember ye said: "O Moses! We shall never believe in thee
2: 55 Until we see Allah manifestly," But ye were dazed Nith thunder and
2: 55 lighting Even as ye looked on.
2: 56 Then We raised you up After your death: Ye had the chance To be
  2: 56 grateful.
2: 58 And remember We said: "Enter this town, and eat Of the plenty
2: 58 therein As ye wish; but enter The gate with humility, In posture
2: 58 and in words, And We shall forgive you your faults And increase
2: 58 (the portion of) Those who do good."
2: 61 And remember ye said: "O Moses! we cannot endure One kind of food
2: 61 (always); So beseech thy Lord for us To produce for us of what the
2: 61 earth Groweth,-its pot-herbs, and cucumbers, Its garlic, lentils,
2: 61 and onions."He said: "Will ye exchange The better for the worse? Go
2: 61 ye down to any town, And ye shall find what ye want!" They were
2: 61 covered with humiliation And misery: they drew On themselves the
2: 61 wrath of Allah. This because they went on Rejecting the Signs of
2: 61 Allah and slaying His Messengers Without just cause. This because
2: 61 they rebelled And went on transgressing.
  2: 61 SECTION 8.
2: 63 And remember We took Your Covenant And We raised above you (The
2: 63 towering height) Of Mount (Sinai) (Saying); "Hold firmly To what We
2: 63 have given you And bring (ever) to remembrance What is therein:
2: 63 Perchance ye may fear Allah."
2: 64 But ye turned back thereafter: Had it not been for the Grace And
2: 64 Mercy of Allah to you, Ye had surely been Among the lost.
2: 65 And well ye knew Those amongst you Who transgressed In the matter
2: 65 of the Sabbath: We said to them: "Be ye apes, Despised and
  2: 65 rejected."
2: 67 And remember Moses said To his people: "Allah commands That ye
  2: 67 sacrifice a heifer." They said: " Makest thou A laughing-stock of
2: 67 us?" He said: "Allah save me From being an ignorant (fool)!"
2: 68 They said: "beseech on our behalf Thy Lord to make plain to us What
2: 68 (heifer) it is!" He said:"He says: The heifer Should be neither too
2: 68 old Nor too young, but of middling Age:now do what ye are commanded!
2: 72 Remember ye slew a man And fell into a dispute Among yourselves as
2: 72 to the crime: But Allah was to bring forth What ye did hide.
2: 73 So We said: "Strike the (body) With a piece of the (heifer)." Thus
2: 73 Allah bringeth the dead To life and showeth you His Signs :
2: 73 Perchance ye may understand.
2: 74 Thenceforth were your hearts Hardened: they became Like a rock and
2: 74 even worse In hardness. For among rocks There are some from which
2: 74 Rivers gush forth; others There are which when split Asunder send
2: 74 forth water; And others which sink For fear of Allah. And Allah is
2: 74 Not unmindful of what ye do.
2: 75 Can ye (O ye men of Faith) Entertain the hope that they Will
2: 75 believe in you?- Seeing that a party of them Heard the Word of
2: 75 Allah And perverted it knowingly After they understood it.
2: 76 Behold! when they meet The men of Faith, they say: "We believe":
2: 76 but when They meet each other in private, They say: "Shall you tell
2: 76 them What Allah hath revealed to you, That they may engage you In
2: 76 argument about it Before your Lord?"- Do ye not understand
  2: 76 (their aim)?
2: 80 And they say: "The Fire Shall not touch us But for a few numbered
2: 80 days"; Say: "Have ye taken a promise From Allah, for He never
2: 80 Breaks His promise? Or is it that ye say of Allah What ye do not
  2: 80 know?".
2: 83 And remember We took A Covenant from the Children Of Israel (to
2: 83 this effect): Worship none but Allah; Treat with kindness Your
2: 83 parents and kindred, And orphans and those in need; Speak fair
2: 83 to the people; Be steadfast in prayer; And practise regular charity
2: 83 Then did ye turn back, Except a few among you, And ye backslide
  2: 83 (even now).
2: 84 And remember We took Your Covenant (to this effect): Shed no blood
2: 84 amongst you, Nor turn out your own people From your homes; and this
2: 84 Ye solemnly ratified, And to this ye can bear witness.
2: 85 After this it is ye, the same people, Who slay among yourselves,
2: 85 And banish a party of you From their homes; assist (Their enemies)
2: 85 against them, In guilt and rancour; And if they come to you As
2: 85 captives, ye ransom them, Though it was not lawful For you to
2: 85 banish them. Then is it only a part of the Book That ye believe in,
2: 85 And do ye reject the rest? But what is the reward for those Among
2: 85 you who behave like this But disgrace in this life?- And on the Day
2: 85 of judgment They shall be consigned To the most grievous penalty.
2: 85 For Allah is not unmindful Of what ye do.
2: 87 We gave Moses the Book And followed him up With a succession of
2: 87 Apostles; We gave Jesus the son of Mary Clear (Signs) and
2: 87 strengthened him With the holy spirit. Is it That whenever there
2: 87 comes to you An Apostle with what ye yourselves desire not, ye are
2: 87 Puffed up with pride?-Some ye called impostors, And others ye slay!
2: 91 When it is said to them: "Believe in what Allah Hath sent down".
2: 91 they say "We believe in what was sent down To us": yet they reject
2: 91 All besides , even if it be Truth confirming what is with them.
2: 91 Say: "Why then have ye slain The prophets of Allah in times Gone
2: 91 by, if ye did indeed Believe?"
2: 92 There came to you Moses With clear (Signs); yet Ye worshipped the
2: 92 Calf (Even) after that, and ye Did behave wrongfully.
2: 93 And remember We took Your Covenant and we raised Above you (the
2: 93 towering height) Of Mount (sinai): (Saying): "Hold firmly To what
2: 93 We have given you And hearken (to the Law)": They said: "We hear,
2: 93 And we disobey": And they had to drink Into their hearts (Of the
2: 93 taint) of the Calf Because of their Faithlessness. Say: "Vile
2: 93 indeed Are the behests of your Faith If ye have any faith!"
2: 94 Say: "If the last Home, With Allah, be for you specially, And not
2: 94 for anyone else, Then seek ye for death, If ye are sincere."
2: 96 Thou wilt indeed find them, Of all people, most greedy Of life,-
2: 96 even more Than the idolaters; Each one of them wishes He could be
2: 96 given a life Of a thousand years: But the grant of such life Will
2: 96 not save him From (due) punishment. For Allah sees well All that
  2: 96 they do.
  2: 96 SECTION 12
2:102 They followed what the evil ones Gave out (falsely) Against the
2:102 power Of solomon: the blasphemers Were, not Solomon, but The evil
2:102 ones, teaching men Magic, and such things As came down at Babylon
2:102 To the angels Harut and Marut. But neither of these taught any one
2:102 (Such things) without saying: "We are only for trial; So do not
2:102 blaspheme." They learned from them The means to sow discord Between
2:102 man and wife. But they could not thus Harm any one except By
2:102 Allah's permission. And they learned what harmed them, Not what
2:102 profited them. And they knew that the buyers Of (magic) would have
2:102 No share in the happiness Of the Hereafter. And vile Was the price
2:102 of which They did sell their souls, If they but knew!
2:104 O ye men of Faith! Say not (to the Apostle) Words of ambiguous
2:104 import, But words of respect; And hearken (to him): To those
2:104 without Faith Is a grievous punishment.
2:107 Knowest thou not That to Allah belongeth The dominion of the
2:107 heavens And the earth? And besides Him ye have Neither patron nor
  2:107 helper.
2:108 Would ye question Your Apostle as Moses Was questioned of old? But
2:108 whoever changeth From Faith to Unbelief, Hath strayed without doubt
  2:108 From the even way.
2:109 Quite a number of the People Of the Book wish they could Turn you
2:109 (people) back To infidelity after ye have believed, From selfish
2:109 envy, After the Truth hath become Manifest unto them : But forgive
2:109 and overlook, Till Allah accomplish His purpose; For Allah Hath
  2:109 power over all things.
2:110 And be steadfast in prayer And regular in charity: And whatever
2:110 good ye send forth for your souls before you, ye shall find it With
2:110 Allah: for Allah sees Well all that ye do.
2:111 And they say: "None Shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a
2:111 Christian." Those are their (vain) desires. Say:"Produce your proof
  2:111 If ye are truthful."
2:113 The Jews Say: "The Christians Have naught (to stand) upon"; And the
2:113 Christians say: "The Jews have naught (To stand) upon." Yet they
2:113 (Profess to) study the (same) Book. Like unto their word Is what
2:113 those say who know not, But Allah will judge Between them in their
2:113 quarrel On the Day of Judgment.
2:115 To Allah belong the East And the west: whithersoever Ye turn, there
2:115 is the Presence Of Allah. For Allah is All-Pervading, All-Knowing.
2:125 Remember We made the House A place of assembly for men And a place
  2:125  of safety; And take ye the Station Of Abraham as a place Of prayer;
2:125 and We covenanted With Abraham and Ismail, That they should
2:125 sanctify My House for those who Compass it round, or use it As a
2:125 retreat, or bow, or Prostrate themselves (therein In prayer).
2:126 And remember Abraham said: "My Lord, make this a City Of Peace, and
2:126 feed its People With fruits, -such of them As believe in Allah and
2:126 the Last Day." He said: "(Yea), and such as Reject Faith,_ for a
2:126 while Will I grant them their pleasure, But will soon drive them To
2:126 the torment of Fire,- An evil destination (indeed)!"
2:127 And remember Abraham And Ismail raised the foundation of the House
2:127 (with this prayer): "Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us: For
  2:127 Thou art the All-Hearing, The All-Knowing.
2:133 Were ye witnesses When Death appeared before Jacob? Behold, he said
2:133 to his sons: "What will ye worship after me? They said: "We shall
2:133 worship Thy Allah and the Allah of thy fathers, Of Abraham, Ismail,
2:133 and Isaac,- The one (True) Allah: To Him wo bow (in Islam)."
2:134 That was a People that hath Passed away. They shall reap The fruit
2:134 of what they did, And ye of what ye do! Of their merits There is no
  2:134 question in your case!
2:135 They say: "Become Jews Or Christians if ye would be guided (To
2:135 salvation)." Say thou: "Nay! (I would rather) the Religion Of
2:135 Abraham the True, And he joined not gods with Allah.
2:136 Say ye: "We believe In Allah, and the revelation Given to us, and
2:136 to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, And the Tribes, and that given To
2:136 Moses and Jesus and that given To (all) Prophets from their Lord:
2:136 We make no difference Between one and another of them: And we bow
  2:136 to Allah (in Islam)."
2:137 So if they believe And ye believe, they are indeed On the right
2:137 path; but if They turn back, it is they Who are in schism; but
2:137 Allah will Suffice thee as against them, And He is the All-Hearing,
  2:137 The All-Knowing.
2:139 Say: Will ye dispute With us about Allah, seeing That He is our
2:139 Lord And your Lord; that we Are responsible for our doings And ye
2:139 for yours; and that We are sincere (in our faith) In Him?
2:140 Or do ye say that Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes were
2:140 Jews or Christians? Say: Do ye know better Than Allah? Ah! who Is
2:140 more unjust than those Who conceal the testimony They have from
2:140 Allah? But Allah is not unmindful Of what ye do!
2:141 That was a people that hath Passed away. They shall reap The fruit
2:141 of what they did, And ye of what ye do! Of their merits There is no
  2:141 question in your case.
  2:141 SECTION 17.
2:143 Thus have We made of you An ummat justly balanced, That ye might be
2:143 witnesses Over the nations, And the Apostle a witness Over
2:143 yourselves; And We appointed the Qibla To which thou wast used,
2:143 Only to test those who followed The apostle from those Who would
2:143 turn on their heels (From the Faith). Indeed it was (A change)
2:143 momentous, except To those guided by Allah, And never would Allah
2:143 Make your faith of no effect, For Allah is to all people Most
2:143 surely full of kindness, Most Merciful.
2:144 We see the turning Of thy face (for guidance) To the heavens: now
2:144 Shall We turn thee To a Qibla that shall Please thee. Turn then Thy
2:144 face in the direction Of the Sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn
2:144 Your faces in that direction. The people of the Book Know well that
2:144 that is The Truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful Of what
  2:144 they do.
2:148 To each is a goal To which Allah turns him; Then strive together
2:148 (as in a race) Towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, Allah
2:148 will bring you Together. For Allah Hath power over all things.
2:149 From whencesoever Thou startest forth. turn Thy face in the
2:149 direction Of the Sacred Mosque; That is indeed the truth From thy
2:149 Lord. And Allah Is not unmindful Of what ye do.
2:150 So from whencesoever Thou startest forth, turn Thy face in the
2:150 direction Of the Sacred Mosque; Among wheresoever ye are Turn your
2:150 face thither: That there be no ground Of dispute against you Among
2:150 the people Except those of them that are Bent of wickedness; so
2:150 fear Them not, but fear Me; And that I may complete My favours on
  2:150  you, and ye May (consent to) be guided;
2:152 Then do ye remember Me; I will remember You. Be grateful to Me, And
  2:152 reject not Faith.
  2:152 SECTION 19.
2:153 O ye who belive! seek help With patient perseverance And Prayer:
2:153 for Allah is with those Who patiently persevere.
2:154 And say not of those Who are slain in the Way Of Allah: "They are
2:154 dead." Nay. they are living, Though ye perceive (it) not.
2:158 Behold! Safa and Marwa Are among the Symbols Of Allah. So if those
2:158 who visit The House in the Season Or at other times, Should compass
2:158 them round, It is no sin in them, And if any one obeyeth his own
2:158 Impulse to Good,- Be sure that Allah Is He Who recogniseth And
  2:158 knoweth.
2:165 Yet there are men Who take (for worship) Others besides Allah As
2:165 equal (with Allah): They love them As they should love Allah. But
2:165 those of Faith are Overflowing in their love For Allah. If only The
2:165 unrighteous could see, Behold, they would see The Penalty: that to
2:165 Allah Belongs all power, and Allah Will strongly enforce The
  2:165 Penalty.
2:168 O ye people! Eat of what is on earth, Lawful and good; And do not
2:168 follow The footsteps of the Evil One, For he is to you An avowed
  2:168 enemy.
2:169 For he commands you What is evil And shameful, And that ye should
2:169 say Of Allah that of which Ye have no knowledge.
2:172 O ye who believe! Eat of the good things That We have provided for
2:172 you, And be grateful to Allah, If it is Him ye worship.
2:177 It is not righteousness That ye turn your faces Towards East or
2:177 West; But it is righteousness- To believe in Allah And the Last Day
2:177 And the Angels, And the Book, And the Messengers; To spend of your
2:177 substance, Out of love for Him, For your kin, For orphans, For the
2:177 needy, For the wayfarer, For those who ask, And for the ransom of
2:177 slaves; To be steadfast in prayer, And practise regular charity; To
2:177 fulfil the contracts Which ye have made; And to be firm and
2:177 patient, In pain (or suffering) And adversity, And throughout All
2:177 periods of panic. Such are the people Of truth, the God-fearing.
2:178 O ye who believe! The law of equality Is prescribed to you In cases
2:178 of murder: The free for the free, The slave for the slave, The
2:178 woman for the woman. But if any remission Is made by the brother Of
2:178 the slain, then grant Any reasonable demand, And compensate him
2:178 With handsome gratitude; This is a concession And a Mercy From your
2:178 Lord. After this whoever Exceeds the limits Shall be in great
  2:178 penalty.
2:179 In the Law of Equality There is (saving of) Life To you, O ye men
2:179 of understanding! That ye may Restrain yourselves.
2:183 O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you As it was prescribed
2:183 To those before you, That ye may (learn) Self-restraint,-
2:184 (Fasting) for a fixed Number of days; But if any of you is ill, Or
2:184 on a journey, The prescribed number (Should be made up) From days
2:184 later. For those who can do it (With hardship), is a ransom, The
2:184 feeding of one, That is indigent. But he that will give More. of
2:184 his own free-will- It is better for him, And it is better for you,
2:184 That ye fast, If ye only knew.
2:185 Ramadhan is the (month) In which was sent down The Qur-an, as a
2:185 Guide To mankind, also clear (Signs) For guidance and judgement
2:185 (Between right and wrong). So every one of you Who is present (at
2:185 his home) During that month Should spend it in fasting, But if any
2:185 one is ill, Or on a journey, The prescribed period (Should be made
2:185 up) By days later. Allah intends every facility For you, He does
2:185 not want To put you to difficulties (He wants you) to complete The
  2:185  prescribed period, And to glorify Him In that He has guided you;
2:185 And perchance ye shall be grateful.
2:187 Permitted to you, On the night of the fasts, Is the approach to
2:187 your wives. They are your garments And ye are their garments. Allah
2:187 knoweth what ye Used to do secretly among yourselves: But He turned
2:187 to you And forgave you; So now associate with them, And seek what
2:187 Allah Hath ordained for you, And eat and drink, Until the white
2:187 thread Of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread; Then
2:187 complete your fast Till the night appears; But do not associate
2:187 With your wives While ye are in retreat In the mosques. Those are
2:187 Limits (set by) Allah: Approach not nigh thereto. Thus doth Allah
2:187 make clear His Signs to men: that They may learn self-restraint.
2:188 And do not eat up Your property among yourselves For vanities, nor
2:188 use it As bait for the judges, With intent that ye may Eat up
2:188 wrongfully and knowingly A little of (other) people's property.
  2:188 SECTION 24.
2:189 They ask thee Concerning the New Moons. Say: they are but signs
2:189 To mark fixed periods of time In (the affairs of) men, And for
2:189 Pilgrimage. It is no virtue if ye enter Your houses from the back:
2:189 It is virtue if ye fear Allah, Enter houses Through the proper
2:189 doors: And fear Allah: That ye may prosper.
2:191 And slay them Wherever ye catch them, And turn them out From where
2:191 they have Turned you out; For tumult and oppression Are worse than
2:191 slaughter; But fight them not At the Sacred Mosque, Unless they
2:191 (first) Fight you there: But if they fight you, Slay them. Such is
2:191 the reward Of those who suppress Faith.
2:194 The prohibited month For the prohibited month,- And so for all
2:194 things prohibited,- There is the law of equality. If then anyone
2:194 transgresses The prohibition against you, Transgress ye likewise
2:194 Against him. But fear Allah, and know That Allah is with those Who
  2:194 restrain themselves.
2:196 And complete the Hajj or Umra In the Service of Allah. But if ye
2:196 are prevented (From completing it), Send an offering For sacrifice,
2:196 such as ye may find, And do not shave your heads Until offering
2:196 reaches The place of sacrifice. And if any of you is ill, Or has an
2:196 ailment in his scalp, (Necessitating shaving), (He should) in
2:196 compensation Either fast, or feed the poor, Or offer sacrifice; And
2:196 when ye are In peaceful conditions (again), If anyone wishes To
2:196 continue the 'Umra On to the Hajj, He must make an offering, Such
2:196 as he can afford, But if he cannot afford it, He should fast Three
2:196 days during the Hajj And seven days on his return, Making ten days
2:196 in all. This is for those Whose household Is not in (the precincts
2:196 Of) the Sacred Mosque. And fear Allah, And know that Allah Is
  2:196 strict in punishment.
  2:196 SECTION 25.
2:197 For Hajj Are the months well known. If anyone undertakes The duty
2:197 therein, Let there be no obscenity Nor wickedness, Nor wrangling In
2:197 the Hajj, And whatever good Ye do, (be sure) Allah knoweth it. And
2:197 take a provision (With you) for the journey. But the best of
2:197 provisions Is right conduct. So fear Me, O ye that are wise!
2:198 It is no crime in you If ye seek of the bounty Of your Lord (during
2:198 pilgrimage). Then when ye pour down From (Mount) 'Arafat, Celebrate
2:198 the praises of Allah At the Sacred Monument, And celebrate His
2:198 praises As He has directed you, Even though, before this Ye went
  2:198 astray.
2:200 So when ye have Accomplished your holy rites, Celebrate the
2:200 praises of Allah, As ye used to celebrate The praises of your
2:200 fathers,- Yea, with far more Heart and soul. There are men who say:
2:200 "Our Lord! give us (Thy bounties) in this world!" But they will
2:200 have No portion in the Hereafter.
2:203 Celebrate the praises of Allah During the Appointed Days, But if
2:203 anyone hastens To leave in two days, There is no blame on him, And
2:203 if anyone stays on, There is no blame on him, If his aims is to do
2:203 right. Then fear Allah, and know That ye will surely Be gathered
  2:203 unto Him.
2:204 There is the type of man Whose speech About this world's life May
2:204 dazzle thee, And he calls Allah to witness About what is in his
2:204 heart; Yet is he the most contentious Of enemies.
2:208 Oye who believe! Enter into Islam Whole-heartedly; And follow not
2:208 The footsteps Of the Evil One; For he isto you An avowed enemy.
2:209 If ye backslide After the Clear (Signs) Have come to you, Then know
2:209 that Allah Is Exalted in Power, Wise.
2:214 Or do ye think That ye shall enter The Garden (of Bliss) Without
2:214 such (trials) As came to those Who passed away Before you? They
2:214 encountered Suffering and adversity, And were so shaken in spirit
2:214 That even the Apostle And those of faith Who were with him Cried:
2:214 "When (will come) The help of Allah?" Ah! verily, the help of
  2:214 Allah is (always) near!
2:215 They ask thee What they should spend (In charity). Say: Whatever Ye
2:215 spend that is good, Is for parents and kindred And orphans And
2:215 those in want And for wayfarers. And whatever ye do That is good,-
  2:215 Allah Knoweth it well.
2:216 Fighting is prescribed For you, and ye dislike it. But it is
2:216 possible That ye dislike a thing Which is good for you And that ye
2:216 love a thing Which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, And ye
  2:216 Know not.
  2:216 SECTION - 27.
2:219 They ask thee Concerning wine gambling, Say: "In them is great sin,
2:219 And some profit, for men; But the sin is grater Than the profit."
2:219 They ask thee how much They are to spend; Say: "What is beyond Your
2:219 needs." Thus doth Allah Make clear to you His Signs: in order that
  2:219 Ye may consider-
2:220 (Their bearings) on This life and the Hereafter. They ask thee
2:220 Concerning orphans. Say: " The best thing to do Is what is for
2:220 their good; If ye mix Their affairs with yours, They are your
2:220 brethren; But Allah knows The man who means mischief From the man
  2:220 who means good.
2:220 And if Allah had wished, He could have put you Into difficulties:
2:220 He is indeed Exalted in Power, Wise."
2:222 They ask thee Concerning women's courses. Say: They are A hurt and
2:222 a pollution: So keep away from women In their courses, and do not
2:222 Approach them until They are clean. But when they have Purified
2:222 themselves, ye may approach them In any manner, time, or place
2:222 Ordained for you by Allah. For Allah loves those Who turn to Him
2:222 constantly And He loves those Who keep themselves pure and clean.
2:223 Your wives are As tilth unto you: So approach your tilth When or
2:223 how ye will: But do some good act For your souls beforehand; And
2:223 fear Allah, And Know that ye are To meet Him (in the Hereafter) And
2:223 give (these) good tidings To those who believe.

2:229 (from your wives), Except when both parties Fear that they would be
2:229 Unable to keep the limits Ordained by Allah, If ye (judges) do
2:229 indeed Fear that they would be Unable to keep the limits Ordained

2:231 Do not treat Allah's signs As a jest, But solemnly rehearse Allah's
2:231 favours on you, And the fact that He Sent down to you The Book And
2:231 Wisdom, For your instruction. And fear Allah, And Know that Allah
2:231 Is well acquainted With all things.

2:239 convenient), But when ye are In security, celebrate Allah's praises
2:239 in the manner He has taught you, Which ye knew not (before).
2:240 Those of you Who die and leave widows Should bequeath For their
2:240 widows A year's maintenance And residence; But if they leave (The
2:240 residence), There is no blame on you For what they do With
2:240 themselves, Provided it is reasonable, And Allah is Exalted in
  2:240 Power, Wise.
2:242 Thus doth Allah Make clear His Signs To you: in order that Ye may
  2:242 understand.
  2:242 SECTION 32.
2:246 Hast thou not Turned thy vision to the Chiefs Of the Children of
2:246 Israel After (the time of) Moses? They said to a Prophet (That was)
2:246 among them: "Appoint for us a King, that we May fight in the
2:246 cause of Allah." He said: "Is it not possible, If ye were commanded
2:246 To fight, that ye Will not fight?" They said; "How could we refuse
2:246 To fight in the cause of Allah, Seeing that we were turned out Of
2:246 our homes and our families?" But when they were commanded To fight,
2:246 they turned back,Except a small band Among them. But Allah Has full
2:246 knowledge of those Who do wrong.
2:248 And (further) their Prophet Said to them: " A Sign Of his authority
2:248 Is that there shall come To you the Ark of the Covenant, With
2:248 (an assurance) therein Of security from your Lord, And the relics
2:248 left By the family of Moses And the family of Aaron, Carried by
2:248 angels. In this is a Symbol For you if ye indeed Have faith."
  2:248 SECTION 33.
2:254 O ye who believe! Spend out of (the bounties) We have provided for
2:254 you, Before the Day comes When no bargaining (Will avail), nor
2:254 friendship Nor intercession. Those who reject Faith- they Are the
  2:254 wrong-doers.
2:259 Or (take) the similitude Of one who passed By a hamlet, all ruins
2:259 To its roofs. He said: "Oh! how shall Allah Bring it (ever) to
2:259 After (this) its death?" But Allah caused him To die for a hundred
2:259 years, Then raised him up (again). He said: "How long Didst thou
2:259 tarry (thus)?" He said: "(Perhaps) a day Or part of a day." He
2:259 said: "Nay, thou hast tarried Thus a hundred years; But look at thy
2:259 food And thy drink; they show No signs of age; and look At thy
2:259 donkey: and that We may make of thee A Sign unto the people, Look
2:259 further at the bones, How We bring them together And clothe them
2:259 with flesh!" When this was shown clearly To him, he said: "I know
2:259 That Allah hath power Over all things."
2:260 Behold! Abraham said: "My Lord! Show me how Thou gevest life to the
2:260 dead." He said: "Dost thou not Then believe?" He Said: "Yea; but
2:260 to satisfy My own understanding." He said: "Take four birds; Tame
2:260 them to turn to thee; Put a portion 308 of them On every hill, and
2:260 call to them: They will come to thee (Flying) with speed. Then know
2:260 that Allah Is Exalted in Power, Wise.
  2:260 SECTION 36.
2:264 O ye who believe! Cancel not your charity By reminders of your
2:264 generosity Or by injury,- like those Who spend their substance To
2:264 be seen of men, But believe neither In Allah nor in the Last Day.
2:264 They are in Parable like a hard, Barren rock, on which Is a little
2:264 soil; on it Falls heavy rain, Which leaves it (Just) a bare stone.
2:264 They will be able to do nothing With aught they have earned. And
2:264 Allah guideth not Those who reject faith.
2:265 And the likeness of those Who spend their substance, Seeking to
2:265 pleas Allah And to strengthen their souls, Is as a garden, high And
2:265 fertile: heavy rain Falls on it but makes it yield A double
2:265 increase Of harvest, and if it receives not Heavy rain, light
2:265 moisture Sufficeth it. Allah seeth well Whatever ye do.
2:266 Does any of you wish That he should have a garden With date-palms
2:266 and vines And streams flowing Underneath, and all kinds Of fruit,
2:266 while he is stricken With old age, and his children Are not strong
2:266 (enough to look after themselves)-. That it should be caught in a
2:266 whirlwind, With fire therein, And be burnt up? Thus doth Allah make
2:266 clear to you (His) Signs; That ye may consider.
  2:266 SECTION 37.
2:267 O ye who believe! Give of the good things Which ye have
2:267 (honourably) earned, And of the fruits of the earth Which We have
2:267 produced For you, and do not even aim At getting anything Which
2:267 is bad,in order that Out of it ye may give away Something, when
2:267 ye yourselves Would not receive it Except with closed eyes. And
2:267 know that Allah Is Free of all wants, And Worthy of all praise.
2:270 And whatever ye spend In charity or devotion, Be sure Allah knows
2:270 it all. But the wrong-doers Have no helpers.
2:271 If ye disclose (acts Of) charity, even so It is well, But if ye
2:271 conceal them, And make them reach Those (really) in need, That is
2:271 best for you: It will remove from you Some of your (stains Of)
2:271 evil. And Allah Is well acquinted With what ye do.
2:272 It is not required Of thee (O Apostle), To set them on the right
2:272 path, But Allah sets on the right path Whom He pleaseth. Whatever
2:272 of good ye give Benefits your own souls, And ye shall only do so
2:272 Seeking the "Face." Of Allah. Whatever good Ye give, shall be
2:272 Rendered back to you, And ye shall not Be dealt with unjustly.
2:273 (Charity is) for those In need, who, in Allah's cause, Are
2:273 restricted (from travel), And cannot move about In the land,
2:273 seeking (For trade or work). The ignorant man thinks, Because of
2:273 their modesty, That they are free from want. Thou shalt know them
2:273 By their (unfailing) mark: They beg not importunately From all and
2:273 sundry. And whatever of good Ye give, be assured Allah knoweth it
  2:273 well.
  2:273 SECTION 38.
2:277 Those who believe, And do deeds of righteousness, And establish
2:277 regular prayers And regular charity Will have their reward With
2:277 their Lord: On them shall be no fear, Nor shall they grieve.
2:278 O ye who believe! Fear Allah, and give up What remains of your
2:278 demand For usury, if ye are Indeed believers.
2:279 If ye do it not, Take notice of war From Allah and His Apostle: But
2:279 if Ye turn back, ye shall have Your capital sums: Deal not unjustly
2:279 And ye shall not Be dealt with unjustly.
2:280 If the debtor is In a difficulty, Grant him time Till it is easy
2:280 For him to repay. But if ye remit it By way of charity, That is
2:280 best for you If ye only knew.
2:281 And fear the Day When ye shall be Brought back to Allah. Then shall
2:281 every soul Be paid what it earned and none shall be Dealt with
  2:281 unjustly.
  2:281 SECTION 39.
2:282 O ye who believe! When ye deal with each other, In transactions
2:282 involving Future obligations In a fixed period of time,
2:282 Reduce them to writing. Let a scribe write down Faithfully as
2:282 between The parties: let not the scribe Refuse to write: as Allah
2:282 Has taught him, So let him write. Let him who incurs The liability
2:282 dictate, But let him fear His Lord Allah, And not diminish Aught
2:282 of what he owes. If the party liable Is mentally deficient, Or
2:282 weak, or unable Himself to dictate, Let his guardian Dictate
2:282 faithfully. And get two witnesses, Out of your own men, And if
2:282 there are not two men, Then a man and two women, Such as ye choose,
2:282 For witnesses, So that if one of them errs, The other can remind
2:282 her. The witnesses Should not refuse When they are called on (For
2:282 evidence). Disdain not to reduce To writing (your contract) For a
2:282 future period, Whether it be small Or big: it is juster In the
2:282 sight of Allah, More suitable as evidence, And more convenient To
2:282 prevent doubts Among yourselves But if it be a transaction Which
2:282 ye carry out On the spot among yourselves, There is no blame on
2:282 you If ye reduce it not To writing. But take witnesses Whenever ye
2:282 make A commercial contract; And let neither scribe Nor witness
2:282 suffer harm, If ye do (such harm), It would be wickedness In you
2:282 So fear Allah; For it is Allah That teaches you. And Allah is well
  2:282 acquainted With all things.
2:283 If ye are on a journey, And cannot find A scribe, a pledge With
2:283 possession (may serve The purpose). And if one of you Deposits a
2:283 thing On trust with another, Let the trustee (Faithfully) discharge
2:283 His trust, and let him Fear his Lord. Conceal not evidence; For
2:283 whoever conceals it,- His heart is tainted With sin. And Allah
2:283 Knoweth all that ye do.
  2:283 SECTION 40.
2:284 To Allah belongeth all That is in the heavens And on earth.
2:284 Whether Ye show what is in your minds Or conceal it, Allah Calleth
2:284 you to account for it. He forgiveth whom He pleaseth, And punisheth
2:284 whom He pleaseth. For Allah hath power Over all things.
3: 12 Say to those who reject Faith: "Soon will ye be vanquished And
3: 12 gathered together To Hell,-and evil bed Indeed (to lie on)!
3: 13 "There has already been For you a Sign In the two armies That met
3: 13 (in combat): One was fighting in the Cause Of Allah, the other
3: 13 Resisting Allah: these saw With their own eyes Twice their number.
3: 13 But Allah doth support With His aid whom He pleaseth. In this is a
3: 13 warning For such as have eyes to see."
3: 14 For in the eyes of men Is the love of things they covet; Women and
3: 14 sons; Heaped-up hoards Of gold and silver; horses Branded (for
3: 14 bloodandexcellence); And (wealth of) cattle And well-tilled land.
3: 14 Such are the possessions Of this world's life; But in nearness to
3: 14 Allah Is the best of the goals (To return to).
3: 20 So if they dispute with thee, Say: "I have submitted My whole self
3: 20 to Allah And so have those Who follow me." And say to the People of
3: 20 the Book And to those who are unlearned: "Do ye (also) submit your
3: 20 selves?" If they do, they are in right guidance, But if they turn
3: 20 back, Thy duty is to convey the Message, And in Allah's sight Are
  3: 20 (all) His servents.
  3: 20 SECTION 3.
3: 28 Let not the Believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers
3: 28 rather than Beleivers: if any do that, In nothing will there be
3: 28 help From Allah: except by way Of precaution, that ye may Guard
3: 28 yourselves from them. But Allah cautions you (To remember) Himself
3: 28 For the final goal Is to Allah.
3: 29 Say: "Whatever ye hide What is in your hearts Or reveal it, Allah
3: 29 knows it all; He knows what is In the heavens, And what is on earth
3: 29 And Allah has power Over all things.
3: 31 Say: "If ye do love Allah, Follow me: Allah will love you, And
3: 31 forgive you your sins: For Allah is Off-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
3: 38 There did Zakariya Pray to his Lord, saying: "O my Lord! Grant unto
3: 38 me From Thee a progeny That is pure; for Thou Art He that heareth
  3: 38 prayer!"
3: 39 While he was standing In prayer in the chamber, The angels called
3: 39 unto him: "Allah doth give thee Glad tidings of Yahya, Witnessing
3: 39 the truth Of a Word from Allah, and (be Besides) noble, chaste, And
3: 39 a Prophet,- Of the (goodly) company Of the righteous."
3: 49 "And (appoint him) An apostle to the Children Of Israel, (with this
3: 49 message): 'I have come to you, With a Sign from your Lord, In that
3: 49 I make for you Out of clay, as it were, The figure of a bird, And
3: 49 breathe into it, And it becomes a bird By Allah's leave; And I heal
3: 49 those Born blind, and the lepers, And I quicken the dead, By Allah's
3: 49 leave; And I declare to you What ye eat, and what ye store In your
  3: 49  houses, Surely Therein  is a Sign for you If ye did believe;
3: 55 Behold! Allah said: "O Jesus! I will take thee And raise thee to
  3: 55  Myself and clear thee (of the falsehood) Of those who blaspheme;
3: 55 I will make those Who follow thee superior To those who reject
3: 55 faith, To the Day of Resurrection: Then shall ye all Return unto Me
3: 55 And I will judge Between you of the matters Wherein ye dispute.
3: 65 Ye People of the Book! Why dispute ye About Abraham, When the Law
3: 65 and the Gospel Were not revealed Till after him? Have ye no
  3: 65 understanding?
3: 66 Ah! Ye are those Who fell to disputing (Even) in matters of Which
3: 66 Ye had some knowledge! But why dispute ye In matters of which Ye
3: 66 have no knowledge? It is Allah who knows, And ye Who know not!
3: 67 Abraham was not a Jew Nor yet a christian, But he was true in Faith
3: 67 And bowed his will to Allah's (Which is Islam), And he joined not
  3: 67 gods with Allah.
3: 70 Ye People of the Book! Why reject ye The Signs of Allah, Of which
3: 70 Ye are (Yourselves) witnesses?
3: 71 Ye People of the Book! Why do ye clothe Truth with falsehood, And
3: 71 conceal the Truth, While ye have knowledge?
  3: 71 SECTION 8.
3: 73 "And believe no one Unless he follows Your religion." Say: "True
3: 73 guidance Is the guidance of Allah: (Fear ye) lest a revelation Be
3: 73 sent to someone (else) Like unto that which was sent Unto you. Or
3: 73 that those (Receiving such revelation) Should engage you in
3: 73 argument Before your Lord." Say: "All bounties Are in the hand of
3: 73 Allah: He grateth them To whom He pleaseth: And Allah careth for
3: 73 all, And He knoweth all things."
3: 79 It is not (possible) That a man, to whom Is given the Book, And
3: 79 Wisdom, And the prophetic office, Should say to people: "Be ye my
3: 79 worshippers Rather than Allah's: On the contrary (He would say):
3: 79 "Be ye worshippers Of Him Who is truly The Cherisher
3: 79 of all: For ye have taught The Book and ye Have studied it
  3: 79 earnestly."
3: 80 Nor would he instruct you To take angels and prophets For Lords
3: 80 and Patrons. What! would he bid you To unbelief after ye have Bowed
3: 80 your will (To Allah in Islam)?
  3: 80 SECTION 9.
3: 81 Behold! Allah took The Covenant of the Prophets, Saying: "I give
3: 81 you A Book and Wisdom; Then comes to you An Apostle confirming What
3: 81 is with you; Do ye believe him And render him help." Allah said:
3: 81 "Do ye agree, And take this My covenant As binding on you ?" They
3: 81 said : "We agree." He said: "Then bear witness, And I am with you
  3: 81 Among the witnesses."
3: 92 By no means shall ye Attain righteousness unless Ye give (freely)
3: 92 of that Which Ye love; and whatever ye give, of a truth Allah
  3: 92 knoweth it well.
3: 93 All food was lawful To the Children of Israel, Except what Israel
3: 93 Made unlawful for itself, Before the Law (of Moses) Was revealed
3: 93 Say: "Bring ye the Law And study it, If ye be men of truth."
3: 98 Say: "O People of the Book! Why reject ye the Signs Of Allah, when
3: 98 Allah is Himself witness To all ye do?"
3: 99 Say: "O ye People of the Book! Why obstruct ye Those who believe,
3: 99 From the Path of Allah, Seeking to make it crooked, While ye were
3: 99 yourselves Witnesses (to Allah's Covenant)? But Allah is not
3: 99 unmindful Of all that ye do."
3:100 O ye who believe! If ye listen To a faction Among the People of the
3:100 Book, They would (indeed) Render you apostates After ye have
  3:100 believed!
3:101 And how would ye Deny Faith while unto you Are rehearsed the Signs
3:101 Of Allah, and among you Lives the Apostle? Whoever holds Firmly to
3:101 Allah Will be shown A Way that is straight.
  3:101 SECTION 11.
3:102 O ye who believe! Fear Allah as He should be Feared, and die not
3:102 Except in a state Of Islam.
3:103 And hold fast, All together, by the Rope Which Allah (stretches
3:103 out For you), and be not divided Among yourselves; And remember
3:103 with gratitude Allah's favour on you; For ye were enemies And He
3:103 joined your hearts In love, so that by His Grace Ye became
3:103 brethren; And ye were on the brink Of the Pit of Fire, And He saved
3:103 you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye
  3:103 may be guided.
3:106 On the Day when Some faces will be (lit up With) white, and some
3:106 faces Will be (in the gloom of) black: To those whose faces Will be
3:106 black, (will be said); "Did ye reject Faith After accepting it?
3:106 Taste then the Penalty For rejecting Faith."
3:110 Ye are the best Of Peoples, evolved For mankind, Enjoining what
3:110 is right, Forbidding what is wrong, And believing in Allah. If only
3:110 the People of the Book Had faith, it were best For them; among them
3:110 Are some who have faith, But most of them Are perverted
  3:110 transgressors.
3:118 O ye who believe! Take not into your intimacy Those outside your
3:118 ranks: They will not fail To corrupt you. They Only desire your
3:118 ruin: Rank hatred has already Appeared from their mouths: What
3:118 their hearts conceal Is far worse. We have made plain To you the
3:118 Signs, If ye have wisdom.
3:119 Ah! ye are those Who love them, But they love you not,- Though ye
3:119 believe In the whole of the Book. When they meet you, They say,
3:119 "We believe": But when they are alone, They bite off the very tips
  3:119  Of their fingers at you In their rage. Say: "Perish in your rage;
3:119 Allah knoweth well All the secrets of the heart."
3:120 If aught that is good Befalls you, it grieves them; But if some
3:120 misfortune Overtakes you, they rejoice At it. But if ye are
3:120 constant And do right, Not the least harm Will their cunning Do to
3:120 you, for Allah Compasseth round about All that they do.
  3:120 SECTION 13.
3:123 Allah had helped you At Badr, when ye were A contemptible little
3:123 force; Then fear Allah; thus May ye show your gratitude.
3:125 "Yea,"- if ye remain firm, And act aright, even if The enemy
3:125 should rush here On you in hot haste, Your Lord would help you
3:125 With five thousand angels Making a terrific onslaught."
3:130 O ye who believe! Devour not Usury, Doubled and multiplied; But
3:130 fear Allah; that Ye may (really) prosper.
3:132 And obey Allah And the Apostle; That ye may obtain mercy.
3:139 So lose not heart, Nor fall into despair: For ye must gain mastery
3:139 If ye are true in Faith.
3:142 Did ye think that ye Would enter Heaven Without Allah testing Those
3:142 of you who fought hard (In His Cause) and Remained steadfast?
3:143 Ye did indeed Wish for Death Before ye met him: Now ye have seen
3:143 him With your own eyes (And ye flinch!).
  3:143 SECTION 15.
3:144 Muhammad is no more Than an Apostle: many Were the Apostles that
3:144 passed away Before him. If he died Or were slain, will ye then
3:144 Turn back on your heels? If any did turn back On his heels, not the
3:144 least Harm will he do to Allah; But Allah (on the other hand) Will
3:144 swiftly reward those Who (serve Him) with gratitude.
3:149 O ye who believe! If ye obey the Unbelievers, They will drive you
3:149 back On your heels, and ye Will turn back (from Faith) To your own
  3:149 loss.
3:152 Allah did indeed fulfil His promise to you When ye with His
3:152 permission Were about to annihilate Your enemy,-until ye flinched
3:152 And fell to disputing About the order And disobeyed it After He
3:152 brought you in sight (Of the Booty) which ye covet. Among you are
3:152 some That hanker after this world And some that desire The
3:152 Hereafter. Then did He Divert you from your foes In order to test
3:152 you, ;But He forgave you: For Allah is full of grace To those who
  3:152 believe.
3:153 Behold! ye were climbing up The high ground, without even Casting a
3:153 side glance At anyone, and the Apostle In your rear was calling
3:153 you Back. There did Allah give you One distress after another By
3:153 way of requital, To teach you not to grieve For (the booty )that
3:153 had escaped you And for (the ill) that had befallen you.
3:153 For Allah is well aware Of all that ye do.
3:156 O ye who believe! Be not like the Unbelievers, Who say of their
3:156 brethren, When they are travelling Through the earth or engaged In
3:156 fighting:"If they had stayed With us, they would not Have died, or
3:156 been slain." This that Allah may make it A cause of sighs and
3:156 regrets In their hearts. It is Allah That gives Life and Death,
3:156 And Allah sees well All that ye do.
3:157 And if ye are slain, or die, In the way of Allah, Forgiveness and
3:157 mercy From Allah are far better Than all they could amass.
3:158 And if ye die, or are slain, Lo! it is unto Allah That ye are
  3:158 brought together.
3:165 What! When a single Disaster smites you, Although ye smote
3:165 (your enemies) With one twice as great, Do ye say?- "Whence is
3:165 this?" Say (to them): "It is from yourselves; For Allah hath power
  3:165 Over all things."
3:166 What ye suffered On the day the two armies Met, was with the leave
3:166 Of Allah, in order that He might test the Believers,-
3:168 (They are) the ones that say,(Of their brethren slain), While they
3:168 themselves Sit (at ease):"If only They had listened to us, They
3:168 would not have been slain." Say: "Avert death From your own selves,
3:168 If ye speak the truth."
3:170 They rejoice in the Bounty Provided by Allah; And with regard to
3:170 those Left behind, who have not Yet joined them(in their bliss),
3:170 The (Martyrs) glory in the fact That on them is no fear, Nor have
  3:170 they (cause to) grieve.
3:175 It is only the Evil One That suggest to you The fear of his
3:175 votaries: Be ye not afraid Of them but fear Me, If ye have Faith.
3:179 Allah will not leave The Believers in the state In which ye are
3:179 now, Until He separates What is evil From what is good . Nor will
3:179 He disclose To you the secrets Of the Unseen. But He chooses Of His
3:179 Apostles (For the purpose) Whom He pleases. So believe in Allah And
3:179 His Apostles: And if ye believe And do right, Ye have a reward
  3:179 Without measure.
3:180 And let not those Who covetously withhold Of the gifts which Allah
3:180 Hath given them of His Grace. Think that it is good for them: Nay,
3:180 it will be the worse For them: soon shall the things Which they
3:180 covetously withheld Be tied to their necks Like a twisted collar,
3:180 On the Day of Judgement. To Allah belongs the heritage Of the
3:180 heavens and the earth; And Allah is well-acquinted With all that ye
  3:180 do.
  3:180 SECTION 19.
3:181 Allah hath heard The taunt of those Who say: "Truly, Allah Is
3:181 indigent and we Are rich!"- We shall Certainly record their word
3:181 And (their act) of slaying The Prophets in defiance Of right, and
3:181 We shall say: "Taste ye the Penalty Of the Scorching Fire!
3:182 "This is because Of the (unrighteous deeds) Which your hands Sent
3:182 on before ye: For Allah never harms Those who serve Him."
3:183 They (also) said: "Allah took Our promise not to believe In an
3:183 apostle unless He showed us a sacrifice Consumed by fire (From
3:183 heaven)." Say: "There came to you Apostles before me, With Clear
3:183 Signs And even with what Ye ask for: why then, Did ye stay them If
  3:183 ye speak the truth?"
3:186 Ye shall cetainly Be tried and tested In your possessions And in
3:186 your personal selves; And ye shall certainly Hear much that will
3:186 grieve you, From those who received The Book before you And from
3:186 those who Worship many gods. But if ye persevere Patiently, and
3:186 guard Against evil,- then That will be A determining factor In all
  3:186 affairs.
3:193 "Our Lord! we have heard The call of one calling (Us) to Faith,
3:193 'Believe ye In the Lord,' and we Have believed, Our Lord! Forgive
3:193 us our sins, Blot out from us Our iniquities, and take To Thyself
3:193 our souls In the company of the righteous.
3:195 And their Lord hath accepted Of them, and answered them: "Never
3:195 will I suffer to be lost The work of any of you, Be he male or
3:195 female: Ye are members, one of another: Those who have left their
3:195 homes, Or been driven our therefrom, Or suffered harm in My Cause,
3:195 Or fought or been slain,- Verily, I will blot out From them their
3:195 iniquities, And admit them into Gardens With rivers flowing
3:195 beneath;- A reward from the
3:195 Presence Of Allah, and from His Presence Is the best of rewards."
3:200 O ye who believe! Persevere in patience And constancy: vie In such
3:200 perseverance; Strengthen each other; And fear Allah; That ye may
  3:200 prosper.
  4: 1 O mankind! reverence Your Guardian-Lord, Who created you From a
4: 1 single Person, Created, of like nature, His mate, and from them
4: 1 twain Scattered (like seeds) Countless men and women;- Reverence
4: 1 Allah, through Whom Ye demand your mutual (rights), And (reverence)
4: 1 the wombs (That bore you): for Allah Ever watches over you.
4: 3 If ye fear that ye shall not Be able to deal justly With the
4: 3 orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two, or three, or four; But if
4: 3 ye fear that ye shall not Be able to deal justly (with them), Then
4: 3 only one, or (a captive) That your right hands possess. That will
4: 3 be more suitable, To prevent you From doing injustice.
4: 6 Make trial of orphans Until they reach the age Of marriage; if then
4: 6 ye find Sound judgment in them, Release their property to them; But
4: 6 consume it not wastefully, Nor in haste against their growing up.
4: 6 If the guardian is well-off, Let him claim no remuneration, But if
4: 6 he is poor, let him Have for himself what is Just and reasonable.
4: 6 When ye release their property To them, take witnesses In their
4: 6 presence: But all-sufficient Is Allah in taking account.
4: 11 Allah (thus) directs you As regards your children's (Inheritance):
4: 11 to the male, A portion equal to that of two females: if only
4: 11 Daughters, two or more, Their share is two-thirds Of the
4: 11 inheritance; If only one, her share Is a half. For parents, a sixth
4: 11 share Of the inheritance to each, If the deceased left children; If
4: 11 no children, and the parents Are the (only) heirs, the mother Has
4: 11 a third; if the deceased Left brothers (or sisters), The mother has
4: 11 a sixth. (The distribution in all cases Is) after the payment Of
4: 11 legacies and debts. Ye know not whether Your parents or your
4: 11 children Are nearest to you In benefit. These are Settled portions
4: 11 ordained By Allah and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
4: 12 In what your wives leave, Your share is a half, If they leave no
4: 12 child; But If they leave a child, Ye get a fourth; after payment
4: 12 Of legacies and debts. In what ye leave,
4: 12 Their share is a fourth, If ye leave no child but if ye leave a
4: 12 child, They get an, eighth; after payment Of legacies and debts. If
4: 12 the man or woman Whose inheritance is in question Has left neither
4: 12 ascendants nor descendants, But has left a brother Or a sister, each
4: 12 one of the two Gets a sixth; but if more Than two, they share in a
4: 12 third; After payment of legacies And debts; so that no loss Is
4: 12 caused (to anyone). Thus is it ordained by Allah, And Allah is
  4: 12 All-Knowing, Most Forbearing.
4: 19 O ye who believe! Ye are forbidden to inherit Women against their
4: 19 will. Nor should ye treat them With harshness, that ye may Take
4: 19 away part of the dower Ye have given them,- except Where they have
4: 19 been guilty Of open lewdness; On the contrary live with them On a
4: 19 footing of kindness and equity. If ye take a dislike to them It may
4: 19 be that ye dislike A thing, and Allah brings about Through it a
4: 19 great deal of good.
4: 20 But if ye decide to take One wife in place of another, Even if ye
4: 20 had given the latter A whole treasure for dower, Take not the least
4: 20 bit of it back: Would ye take it by slander And a manifest wrong?
4: 21 And how could ye take it When ye have gone in Unto each other, and
4: 21 they have Taken from you a solemn covenant?
4: 23 Prohibited to you (For marriage) are :- Your mothers, daughters,
  4: 23 Sisters; father's sisters, Mother's sisters; brother's daughters,
  4: 23 Sister's daugters, foster-mothers (Who gave you suck),
4: 23 foster-sisters; Your wives mothers; Your step-daughters under your
4: 23 Guardianship, born of your wives To whom ye have gone in,- No
4: 23 prohibition if ye have not gone in;- (Those who have been) Wives
4: 23 of your sons proceeding From your loins; And two sisters in wedlock
4: 23 At one and the same time, Except for what is past; For Allah is
  4: 23 Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful;-
4: 24 Also (prohibited are) Women already married, Except those Whom your
4: 24 right hands possess. Thus hath Allah ordained (Prohibitions)
4: 24 against you: Except for these, all others Are lawful, provided Ye
4: 24 seek (them in marriage) With gifts from your property,- Desiring
4: 24 chastity, not lust. Seeing that ye derive Benefit from them, give
4: 24 them Their dowers (at least) As prescribed; but if, After a dower
4: 24 is prescribed, ye agree Mutually (to vary it), There is no blame on
  4: 24 you, And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
4: 25 If any of you have not The means wherewith. To wed free believing
4: 25 women, They may wed believing Girls from among those Whom your
4: 25 right hands possess; And Allah hath full knowledge About your
4: 25 Faith. Ye are one from another: Wed them with the leave Of their
4: 25 owners, and give them, Their owners, according to what Is
4: 25 reasonable: they should be Chaste, not lustful, nor taking
4: 25 Paramours: when they Are taken in wedlock, If they fall into shame,
4: 25 Their punishment is half That for free women. This (permission)
4: 25 is for those Among you who fear sin; But it is better for you That
4: 25 ye practise self-restraint: And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most
  4: 25 Merciful.
  4: 25 SECTION 5.
4: 27 Allah doth wish To turn to you, But the wish of those Who follow
4: 27 their lusts Is that ye should turn Away (from Him),- Far, far away.
4: 29 O ye who believe! Eat not up your property Among yourselves in
4: 29 vanities: But let there be amongst you Traffic and trade By mutual
4: 29 good-will: Nor kill (or destroy) Yourselves: for verily Allah hath
4: 29 been to you Most Merciful!
4: 31 If ye (but) eschew The most heinous Of the things Which ye are
4: 31 forbidden to do, We shall expel Out of you All the evil in you, And
4: 31 admit you to a Gate Of great honour.
4: 34 Men are the protectors And maintainers of women, Because Allah has
4: 34 given The one more (strength) Than the other, and because They
4: 34 support them From their means. Therefore the righteous women Are
4: 34 devoutly obedient, and guard In (the husband's) absence What Allah
4: 34 would have them guard. As to those women On whose part ye fear
4: 34 Disloyalty and ill-conduct, Admonish them (first), (Next), refuse
4: 34 to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly): But if they
4: 34 return to obedience, Seek not against them Means (of annoyance):
4: 34 For Allah is Most High, Great (above you all).
4: 35 If ye fear a breach Between them twain, Appoint (two) arbiters, One
4: 35 from his family, And the other from hers; If they wish for peace,
4: 35 Allah will cause Their reconciliation: For Allah hath full
4: 35 knowledge, And is acquainted With all things.
4: 36 Serve Allah, and join not Any partners with Him: And do good- To
4: 36 parents, kinsfolk, Orphans, those in need, Neighbours who are near,
4: 36 Neighbours who are strangers, The Companion by your side, The
4: 36 way-farer (ye meet), And what your right hands possess: For Allah
4: 36 loveth not The arrogant, the vainglorious;-
4: 43 O ye who believe! Approach not prayers With a mind befogged, Until
4: 43 ye can understand All that ye say,- Nor in a state Of ceremonial
4: 43 impurity (Except when traveling on the road), Until after washing
4: 43 Your whole body If ye are ill, Or on a journey, Or one of you
4: 43 cometh From offices of nature, Or ye have been In contact with
4: 43 women, And ye find no water, Then take for yourselves Clean sand or
4: 43 earth, And rub therewith Your faces and hands: For Allah doth blot
4: 43 out sins And forgive again and again.
4: 44 Fast thou not turned Thy vision to those Who were given a portion
4: 44 Of the Book? They traffic In error, and wish that ye Should lose
  4: 44 the right path.
4: 47 O ye People of the Book! Believe in what We Have (now) revealed,
4: 47 confirming What was (already) with you, Before We change the face
4: 47 and fame Of some (of you) beyond all recognition, And turn them
4: 47 hindwards, Or curse them as We cursed The Sabbath-breakers: For the
4: 47 decision of Allah Must be carried out.
4: 58 Allah doth command you To render back your Trusts To those to
4: 58 whom they are due; And when ye judge Between man and man, That ye
4: 58 judge with justice: Verily how excellent Is the teaching which He
4: 58 giveth you! For Allah is He Who heareth And seeth all things.
4: 59 O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Apostle, And those
4: 59 charged With authority among you, If ye differ in anything Among
4: 59 yourselves, refer it To Allah and His Apostle, If ye do believe in
4: 59 Allah And the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable For final
  4: 59 determination.
  4: 59 SECTION 9.
4: 64 We sent not an Apostle, But to be obeyed, in accordance With the
4: 64 Will of Allah. If they had only, When they were unjust To
4: 64 themselves, Come unto thee And asked Allah's forgiveness, And the
4: 64 Apostle had asked Forgiveness for them, They would have found Allah
  4: 64 indeed Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.
4: 71 O ye who believe! Take your precautions, And either go forth in
4: 71 parties Or go forth all together.
4: 75 And why should ye not Fight in the cause of Allah And of those who,
4: 75 being weak, Are ill-treated (and oppressed)?- Men, women, and
4: 75 children, Whose cry is: "Our Lord! Rescue us from this town, Whose
4: 75 people are oppressors; And raise for us from Thee One who will
4: 75 protect; And raise for us from Thee One who will help!"
4: 76 Those who believe Fight in the cause of Allah, And those who reject
4: 76 Faith Fight in the cause of Evil: So fight ye against the Friends
4: 76 594 of Satan: feeble indeed Is the cunning of Satan.
  4: 76 SECTION 11.
4: 77 Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those Who were told to hold back
4: 77 Their hands (from fight) But establish regular prayers And spend in
4: 77 regular Charity? When (at length) the order For fighting was issued
4: 77 to them, Behold! a section of them Feared men as- Or even more
4: 77 than- They should have feared Allah: They said: "Our Lord! Why hast
4: 77 Thou ordered us To fight? Wouldst Thou not Grant us respite To our
4: 77 (natural) term, Near(enough)?" Say: "Short Is the enjoyment of this
4: 77 world: The Hereafter is the best For those who do right: Never will
4: 77 ye be Dealt with unjustly In the very least!
4: 78 "Wherever ye are, Death will find you out, Even if ye are in towers
4: 78 Built up strong and high!" If some good befalls them, They say,
4: 78 "This is from Allah" But if evil, they say, "This is from thee"
4: 78 (O Prophet). "Say: "All things are from Allah." But what hath come
4: 78 To these people, That they fail To understand A single fact?
4: 88 Why should ye be Divided into two parties About the Hypocrites?
4: 88 Allah hath upset them For their (evil) deeds. Would ye guide those
4: 88 Whom Allah hath thrown Out of the Way? For those Whom Allah hath
4: 88 thrown Out of the Way, never Shalt thou find the Way.
4: 89 They but wish that ye Should reject Faith, As they do, and thus
4: 89 be On the same footing(as they): But take not friends From their
4: 89 ranks Until they flee In the way of Allah (From what is forbidden).
4: 89 But if they turn renegades, Seize them and slay them Wherever ye
4: 89 find them? And (in any case) take No friends or helpers From their
  4: 89 ranks;-
4: 91 Others you will find That wish to gain Your confidence as well
4: 91 As that of their people: Every time they are sent back To
4: 91 temptation, they succumb Thereto: if they withdraw not From you
4: 91 nor give you (guarantees) Of peace besides Restraining their hands,
4: 91 Seize them and slay them. Wherever ye get them In their case We
4: 91 have provided you With a clear argument Against them.
  4: 91 SECTION 13.
4: 92 Never should a Believer Kill a Believer; but (If it so happens) by
4: 92 mistake, (Compensation is due): If one (so) kills a Believer, It is
4: 92 ordained that he Should free a believing slave, And pay
4: 92 compensation To the deceased's family, Unless they remit it freely.
4: 92 If the deceased belonged To a people at war with you, And he was a
4: 92 Believer, The freeing of a believing slave (Is enough). If he
4: 92 belonged To a people with whom Ye have a treaty of mutual Alliance,
4: 92 compensation should Be paid to his family, And a believing slave
4: 92 be freed. For those who find this Beyond their means,(is prescribed
4: 92 A fast for two months Running: by way of repentance To Allah :for
4: 92 Allah hath All knowledge and all wisdom.
4: 94 O ye who believe! When ye go abroad In the cause of Allah, Investi-
4: 94 gate carefully, And say not to anyone Who offers you a salutation:
4: 94 "Thou art none of a Believer!"- Coveting the perishable goods Of
4: 94 this life: with Allah Are profits and spoils abundant. Even thus
4: 94 were ye yourselves Before, till Allah conferred On you His favours:
4: 94 therefore Carefully investigate, For Allah is well aware Of all
  4: 94 that ye do.
4: 97 When angels take The souls of those Who die in sin Against their
4: 97 souls They say;"In what (plight) Were ye?" They reply; "Weak and
4: 97 oppressed Were we in the earth." They say;"Was not The earth of
4: 97 Allah Spacious enough for you To move yourselves away (From evil)?"
4: 97 Such men Will find their abode In Hell,- What an evil Refuge!-
4:101 When ye travel Through the earth, There is no blame you If ye
4:101 shorten your prayers, For fear the Unbelievers May attack you; For
4:101 the Unbelievers are Unto you open enemies.
4:102 When thou (O Apostle) Art with them, and standest To lead them in
4:102 prayer, Let one party of them Stand up (in prayer) with thee
4:102 Taking their arms with them; When they finish Their prostrations,
4:102 let them Take their positions in the rear, And let the other party
4:102 come up- Which hath not yet prayed- And let them pray with thee ,
4:102 Taking all precautions, And bearing arms: The Unbelievers wish,
4:102 If ye were negligent Of your arms and your baggage To assault
4:102 you in a single rush, But there is no blame on you If ye put
4:102 away your arms Because of the inconvenience Of rain or because ye
4:102 are ill; But take (every) precaution For yourselves. For the
4:102 Unbelievers Allah hath prepared A humiliating punishment.
4:103 When ye pass (Congregatoinal) prayers, Celebrate Allah's praises,
4:103 Standing, sitting down, Or lying down on your sides; But when ye are
4:103 free From danger, set up Regular Prayers; For such prayers Are
4:103 enjoined on Believers At stated times.
4:104 And slacken not In following up the enemy: If ye are suffering
4:104 hardships; They are suffering similar Hardships; but ye have Hope
4:104 from Allah, while they Have none. And Allah Is full of knowledge
  4:104 and wisdom.
  4:104 SECTION 16.
4:109 Ah! these are the sort Of men on whose behalf Ye may contend in
4:109 this world; But who will contend with Allah On their behalf on the
4:109 Day Of Judgment, or who Will carry their affairs through?
4:115 If anyone contends with The Apostle even after Guidance has been
4:115 plainly Conveyed to him, and follows A path other than that
4:115 Becoming to men of Faith We shall leave him In the path he has
4:115 chosen, And land him in Hell,- What an evil refuge?
  4:115 SECTION 18.
4:116 Allah forgiveth not (The sin of) joining other gods With Him: but
4:116 He forgiveth Whom He pleaseth other sins Than this: one who joins
4:116 Other gods with Allah, Hath strayed far, far away (From the Right).
4:127 They ask thy instruction Concerning the Women, Say: Allah doth
4:127 Instruct you about them: And (remember) what hath Been rehearsed
4:127 unto you In the Book, concerning The orphans of women to whom Ye
4:127 give not the portions Prescribed, and yet whom ye Desire to marry,
4:127 as also Concerning the children Who are weak and oppressed: That ye
4:127 stand firm For justice to orphans. There is not a good deed Which
4:127 ye do, but Allah Is well-acquainted therewith.
4:128 If a wife fears Cruelty or desertion On her husband's part, There
4:128 is no blame on them If they arrange An amicable settlement Between
4:128 themselves; And such settlement is best; Even though men's souls
4:128 Are swayed by greed. But if ye do good And practise self-restraint,
4:128 Allah is well-acquainted With all that ye do.
4:129 Ye are never able To be fair and just As between women, Even if it
4:129 is Your ardent desire: But turn not away (From a women) altogether,
4:129 So as to leave her (as it were) Hanging (in the air). If ye come to
4:129 a friendly Understanding and practise Self-restraint, Allah is
  4:129 Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
4:131 To Allah belong all things In the heavens and on earth. Verily We
4:131 have directed The People of the Book Before you, and you (O
4:131 Muslims) To fear Allah. But if ye Deny Him, lo! unto Allah Belong
4:131 all things In the heavens and on earth, And Allah is free Of all
4:131 wants, worthy Of all praise.
4:132 Yea, unto Allah belong All things in the heavens And on earth, and
4:132 enough Is Allah to carry through All affairs.
4:135 O ye who believe! Stand out firmly For justice, as witnesses To
4:135 Allah, even as against Yourselves, or your parents, Or you kin, and
4:135 whether It be (against) rich or poor: For Allah can best protect
4:135 both. Follow not the lusts (Of your hearts), lest ye Swerve, and
4:135 if ye Distort (justice) or decline To do justice, verily Allah is
4:135 well-acquainted With all that ye do.
4:136 O ye who believe! Believe in Allah And His Apostle, And the
4:136 scripture which He Hath sent to His Apostle And the scripture
4:136 which He sent To those before (him). And who denieth Allah,
4:136 His angels, His Books, His Apostles, and the Day Of Judgment, hath
  4:136 gone Far, far astray.
4:139 Yea, to those who take For friends Unbelievers Rather than
4:139 Believers: Is it honour they seek Among them? Nay,- All honour is
  4:139 with Allah.
4:140 Already has He sent you Word in the Book, that when Ye hear the
4:140 Signs of Allah Held in defiance and ridicule, Ye are not to sit
4:140 with them Unless they turn to a different Theme: if ye did, ye
4:140 would be Like them. For Allah will Collect the Hypocrites and those
4:140 Who defy Faith- all in Hell:-
4:141 (These are) the ones who Wait and watch about you: If ye do gain A
4:141 victory from Allah, They say: "Were we not With you?"- but if The
4:141 Unbelievers gain A success, they say (To them): "Did we not Gain
4:141 an advantage over you, And did we not guard You from the
4:141 Believers?" But Allah will judge Betwixt you on the Day Of
4:141 Judgement. And never Will Allah grant To the Unbelievers A way (to
  4:141 triumph) Over the Believers.
  4:141 SECTION 21.
4:142 The Hypocrites- they think They are over-reaching Allah, But He
4:142 will over-reach them: When they stand up to prayer, They stand
4:142 without earnestness, To be seen of men, But little do they hold
  4:142  Allah in remembrance;
4:144 O ye who believe! Take not for friends Unbelievers rather than
4:144 Believers: do ye wish To offer Allah an open Proof against
  4:144 yourselves?
4:147 What can Allah gain By your punishment, If ye are grateful And ye
4:147 believe? Nay, it is Allah That recogniseth 5 (All good), and
  4:147 knoweth 30 All things.
4:149 Whether ye publish A good deed or conceal it Or cover evil with
4:149 pardon, Verily Allah doth blot out (Sins) and hath power (In the
  4:149 judgement of values).
4:153 The People of the Book Ask thee to cause A book to descend to them
4:153 From heaven: indeed They asked Moses For an even greater (Miracle)
4:153 for they said: "Show us Allah in public." But they were dazed For
4:153 their presumption, With thunder and lightning. Yet they
4:153 worshipped the calf Even after Clear Signs Had come to them; Even
4:153 so We forgave them; And gave Moses manifest Proofs of authority.
4:162 But those among them Who are well-grounded in knowledge, And the
4:162 Believers, Believe in what hath been Revealed to thee and what was
4:162 Revealed before thee; And (especially) those Who establish regular
4:162 prayer And practise regular charity And believe in Allah And in the
4:162 Last Day: To them shall We soon Give a great reward.
  4:162 SECTION 23.
4:167 Those who reject Faith And keep off (men) From the Way of Allah,
4:167 Have verily strayed far, Far away from the Path.
4:170 O mankind! the Apostle Hath come to you in truth From Allah:
4:170 believe in him: It is best for you But if Ye rejected Faith, to
4:170 Allah Belong all things in the heavens And on earth: and Allah Is
  4:170 All-Knowing, All-Wise.
4:176 They ask thee For a legal decision. Say: Allah directs (thus) About
4:176 those who leave No descendants or ascendants As heirs. If it is a
4:176 man 681 That dies, leaving a sister But no child, she shall Have
4:176 half the inheritance: If (such a deceased was) A woman, who left no
4:176 child, Her brother takes her inheritance: If there are two sisters,
4:176 They shall have two-thirds Of the inheritance (Between them): if
4:176 there are Brothers and sisters, (they share), The male having twice
4:176 The share of the female. Thus doth Allah make clear To you (His
4:176 law), lest Ye err. And Allah Hath knowledge of all things.
5: 1 O ye who believe! Fulfil (all) obligations.
5: 2 Lawful unto you (for food) Are all four-footed animals, With the
5: 2 exceptions named: But animals of the chase Are forbidden while ye
5: 2 Are in the Sacred precincts Or in pilgrim garb: For Allah doth
5: 2 command According to His Will and Plan.
5: 3 O ye who believe! Violate not the sanetity Of the Symbols of Allah,
5: 3 Nor of the Sacred Month Nor of the animals brought For sacrifice,
5: 3 nor the garlands That mark out such animals, Nor the people
5: 3 resorting To the Sacred House, Seeking of the bounty And good
5: 3 pleasure Of their Lord, But when ye are clear Of the Sacred
5: 3 Precincts And of pilgrim garb, Ye may hunt, And let not the hatred
5: 3 Of some people In (once) shutting you out Of the Sacred Mosque
5: 3 Lead you to transgression (And hostility on your part). Help ye one
5: 3 another In righteousness and piety, But help ye not one another In
5: 3 sin and rancour: Fear Allah: for Allah Is strict in punishment.
5: 4 Forbidden to you (for food) Are: dead meat, blood, The flesh of
5: 4 swine, and that On which hath been invoked The name of other than
5: 4 Allah, That which hath been Killed by strangling, Or by a violent
5: 4 blow, Or by a headlong fall, Or by being gored to death: That which
5: 4 hath been (partly) Eaten by a wild animal; Unless ye are able To
5: 4 'slaughter it (in due form); That which is sacrificed 693 On stone
5: 4 (altars); (Forbidden) also is the division (Of meat) by raffling
5: 4 With arrows: that is impiety. his day have those who Reject Faith
5: 4 given up All hope of your religion: Yet fear them not But fear Me.

5: 4 favour upon you, And have chosen for you Islam as your religion.
5: 4 But if any is forced By hunger, with no inclination To
5: 4 transgression, Allah is Indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
5: 5 They ask thee what is Lawful to them (as food): say: Lawful unto
5: 5 you Are (all) things good and pure: And what ye have taught Your
5: 5 trained hunting animals (To catch) in the manner Directed to you
5: 5 by Allah: Eat what they catch for you, But pronounce the name Of
5: 5 Allah over it: and fear Allah; for Allah is swift In taking
  5: 5 account.
5: 6 This day are (all) things Good and pure made lawful Unto you. The
5: 6 food Of the People of the Book Is lawful unto you And yours is
5: 6 lawful Unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) Are (not only)
5: 6 chaste women Who are believers, but Chaste women among The People
5: 6 of the Book, Reaveled before your time,- when ye give them Their
5: 6 due dowers, and desire Chastity, not lewdness, Nor secret
5: 6 intrigues. If anyone rejects faith, Fruitless is his work, And in
5: 6 the Hereafter He will be in the ranks Of those who have lost (All
  5: 6 spiritual good).
  5: 6 SECTION 2.
5: 7 O ye who believe! When ye prepare For prayer, wash Your faces, and
  5:  7  your hands (And arms) to the elbows; Rub your heads (with water);
5: 7 And (wash) your feet To the ankles. If ye are in a state Of
5: 7 ceremonial impurity, Bathe your whole body. But if ye are ill, Or
5: 7 on a journey, Or one of you, cometh From offices of nature, Or ye
5: 7 have been In contact with women, And ye find no water, Then take
5: 7 for yourselves Clean sand or earth, And rub therewith Your faces
5: 7 and hands Allah doth not wish To place you in a difficulty, But to
5: 7 make you clean, And to complete His favour to you, That ye may be
  5: 7 grateful.
5: 8 And call in remembrance The favour of Allah Unto you, and His
5: 8 Covenant, Which He ratified With you, when ye said: "We hear and we
5: 8 obey": And fear Allah, for Allah Knoweth well The secrets of your
  5: 8 hearts.
5: 9 O ye who believe! Stand out firmly For Allah, as witnesses To fair
5: 9 dealing, and let not The hatred of others To you make you swerve To
5: 9 wrong and depart from Justice. Be just: that is Next to Piety: and
5: 9 fear Allah, For Allah is well-acquainted With all that ye do.
5: 12 O ye who believe! Call in remembrance The favour of Allah Unto you
5: 12 when Certain men formed the design To stretch out Their hands
5: 12 against you, But (Allah) held back Their hands from you: So fear
5: 12 Allah. And on Allah Let Believers put (All) their trust.
  5: 12 SECTION 3.
5: 13 Allah did aforetime Take a Covenant from The Children of Israel,
5: 13 And We appointed twelve Captains among them. And Allah said: "I am
5: 13 With you: if ye (but) Establish regular Prayers, Practise regular
5: 13 Charity, Believe in My apostles, Honour and assist them, And loan
5: 13 to Allah A beautiful loan, Verily I will wipe out From you your
5: 13 evils, And admit you to Gardens With rivers flowing beneath; But if
5: 13 any of you, after this, Resisteth faith, he hath truly Wandered
5: 13 from the path Of rectitude,"
5: 16 O People of the Book! There hath come to you Our Apostle,
5: 16 revealing To you much that ye Used to hide in the Book, And
5: 16 passing over much (That is now unnecessary):
5: 20 Both ) the Jews and the Christians Say: "We are sons Of Allah, and
5: 20 His beloved," Say: "Why then doth He Punish you for your sins? Nay,
5: 20 ye are but men,- Of the men He hath created: He forgiveth whom He
5: 20 pleaseth, And He punisheth whom He pleaseth: And to Allah belongeth
  5: 20  The dominion of the heavens And the earth, and all That is between;
5: 20 And unto Him Is the final goal (of all)."
5: 21 Of People of the Book! Now hath come unto you, Making (things)
5: 21 clear unto you, Our Apostle, after the break In (the series of) Our
5: 21 apostles, Lest ye should say: There came unto us No bringer of glad
5: 21 tidings And no warner (from evil)" But now hath come Unto you a
5: 21 bringer Of glad tidings And a warner (from evil): And Allah hath
5: 21 power Over all things.
  5: 21 SECTION 4.
5: 23 "O my people! enter The holy land which Allah hath assigned unto
5: 23 you And turn not back Ignominiously, for then Will ye be
5: 23 overthrown, To your own ruin."
5: 25 (But) among (their) God-fearing men Were two on whom Allah had
5: 25 bestowed His grace: They said: "Assault them At the (proper) Gate:
5: 25 When once ye are in, Victory will be yours:
5: 26 But on Allah put your trust If ye have faith."
5: 27 They said: "Moses! While they remain there, Never shall we be able
5: 27 To enter, to the end of time. Go thou, and thy Lord, And fight ye
5: 27 two, While we sit here (And watch)."
5: 29 Allah said: "Therefore Will the land be out Of their reach for
5: 29 forty years; In distraction will they Wander through the land: But
5: 29 sorrow thou not Over these rebellious people."
  5: 29 SECTION 5.
5: 35 On that account: We ordained For the Children of Israel That if
5: 35 anyone slew A person- unless it be For murder or for spreading
5: 35 Mischief in the land- It would be as if He slew the whole people:
5: 35 And if anyone saved a life, It would be as if he saved The life of
5: 35 the whole people. Then although there came To them Our Apostles
5: 35 With Clear Signs, yet, Even after that, many Of them continued to
5: 35 commit Excesses in the land.
5: 38 O ye who believe! Do your duty to Allah, Seek the means Of approach
5: 38 unto Him, And strive with might And main in His cause: That ye may
  5: 38 prosper.
5: 44 O Apostle! let not Those grieve thee, who race Each other into
5: 44 Unbelief: (Whether it be) among those Who say: "We believe" With
5: 44 their lips but Whose hearts have no faith; Or it be among the
5: 44 Jews,- Men who will listen To any lie,-will listen Even to others
5: 44 who have Never so much as come To thee. They change the words From
5: 44 their (right) times And places; they say, "If ye are given this,
5: 44 Take it, but if not, Beware!" If anyone's trial Is intended by
5: 44 Allah, thou hast No authority in the least For him against Allah.
5: 44 For such- it is not Allah's will to purify Their hearts. For them
5: 44 There is disgrace In this world, and In the Hereafter A heavy
  5: 44 punishment.
5: 46 But why do they come To thee for decision, When they have (their
  5: 46  own) Laws before them?- Therein is the (plain) Command of Allah;
5: 46 yet Even after that, they would Turn away. For they Are not
5: 46 (really) People of Faith.
  5: 46 SECTION 7.
5: 48 We ordained therein for them: "Life for life, eye for eye, Nose for
5: 48 nose, ear for ear, Tooth for tooth, and wounds Equal for equal,"
5: 48 But if Anyone remits the retaliation By way of charity, it is An
5: 48 act of atonement for himself. And if any fail to judge By, (the
5: 48 light of) what Allah Hath revealed, they are (No better than)
  5: 48 wrong-doers.
5: 51 To thee We sent the Scripture In truth, confirming The scripture
5: 51 that came Before it, and guarding it In safety; so judge Between
5: 51 them by what Allah hath revealed And follow not their vain Desires,
5: 51 diverging From the Truth that hath come To thee. To each among you
5: 51 Have We prescribed a Law And an Open Way. If Allah had so willed,
5: 51 He would haave made you A single People, but (His Plan is) to test
5: 51 you in what He hath given you: so strive As in a race in all
5: 51 virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah; It is He that will show
5: 51 you The truth of the matters In which ye dispute:
5: 54 O ye who believe! Take not the Jews And the Christians For your
5: 54 friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors To each
5: 54 other. And he Amongst you that turns to them (For friendship) is of
5: 54 them. Verily Allah guideth not A people unjust.
5: 57 O ye who believe! If any from among you Turn back from his Faith,
5: 57 Soon will Allah produce A people whom He will love As they will
5: 57 love Him,- Lowly with the Believers, Mighty against the Rejecters,
5: 57 Fighting in the Way of Allah, And never afraid Of the reproaches Of
5: 57 such as find fault. That is the Grace of Allah, Which He will
5: 57 bestow On whom He pleaseth: And Allah encompasseth all, And He
  5: 57 knoweth all things.
5: 60 O ye who believe! Take not for friends And protectors those Who
5: 60 take your religion For a mockery or sport,- Whether among those Who
  5: 60  received the Scripture Before you, or among those Who reject Faith;
5: 60 But fear ye Allah, If ye have Faith (indeed).
5: 61 When ye proclaim Your call to prayer, They take it (but) As mockery
5: 61 and sport; That is because they are A people without understanding.
5: 62 Say: "O People of the Book! Do ye disapprove of us For no other
5: 62 reason than That we believe in Allah, And the revelation That hath
5: 62 come to us And that which came Before (us), and (perhaps) That most
5: 62 of you Are rebellious and disobedient?"
5: 69 If only they had stood fast By the Law the Gospel, And all the
5: 69 revelation that was sent To them from their Lord, They would have
5: 69 enjoyed Happiness from every side. There is from among them A party
5: 69 on the right course; But many of them Follow a course that is evil.
  5: 69 SECTION 10.
5: 71 Say: "O People of the Book! Ye have no ground To stand upon unless
5: 71 Ye stand fast by the Law, The Gospel, and all the revelation That
5: 71 has come to you from Your Lord." It is the revelation That cometh
5: 71 to thee from Thy Lord, that increaseth in most Of them their
5: 71 obstinate Rebellion and blasphemy. But sorrow thou not Over (these)
  5: 71 people without faith .
5: 74 They thought there would be No trial (or punishment ); So they
5: 74 became blind and deaf: Yet Allah (in mercy) turned To them: yet
5: 74 again many Of them became blind and deaf. But Allah sees well All
  5: 74 that they do.
5: 78 Christ the son of Mary Was no more than An Apostle; many were The
5: 78 apostles that passed away Before him. His mother Was a woman of
5: 78 truth. They had both to eat Their (daily) food. See how Allah doth
5: 78 make His Signs clear to them; Yet see in what ways They are deluded
5: 78 Away from the truth!
5: 79 Say : "Will ye worship Besides Allah, something Which hath no power
5: 79 either To harm, or benefit you? But Allah,- He it is That heareth
5: 79 and knoweth All things."
5: 80 Say: "O People of the Book! Exceed not in your religion The bounds
5: 80 (of what is proper), Trespassing beyound the truth, Nor follow the
5: 80 vain desires Of people who went wrong In times gone by,- who misled
5: 80 Many, and strayed (themselves) From the even Way.
  5: 80 SECTION 11.
5: 81 Curses were pronounced On those among the Childeren Of Israel who
5: 81 rejected Faith, By the tongue of David And of Jesus the son of Mary
5: 81 Because they disobeyed And persisted in Excesses.
5: 86 And when they listen To the revelation recieved By the Apostle,
5: 86 thou, wilt See their eyes overflowing With tears, for they
5: 86 Recognise the truth: They pray: "Our Lord! We believe; write us
5: 86 Down among the witnesses.
5: 88 And for this their prayer Hath Allah rewarded them With Gardens,
5: 88 with rivers Flowing underneath,- their eternal Home. Such is the
5: 88 recompense Of those who do good.
5: 90 O ye who believe! Make not unlawful The good things which Allah
5: 90 Hath made lawful for you, But commit no excess: For Allah loveth
5: 90 not Those given to excess.
5: 91 Eat of the things which Allah hath provided for you, Lawful and
5: 91 good: but fear Allah, in Whom ye believe.
5: 92 Allah will not call you To account for what is Futile in your
5: 92 oaths, But He will call you To account for your deliberate Oaths:
5: 92 for expiation, feed Ten indigent persons, On a scale of the average
5: 92 For the food of your families; Or clothe them; or give A slave his
5: 92 freedom. If that is beyond your means, Fast for three days, That is
5: 92 the expiation For the oaths ye have sworn. But keep to your oaths.
5: 92 Thus doth Allah make clear To you His Signs, that ye May be
  5: 92 grateful.
5: 93 O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (Dedication of)
5: 93 stones, And (divination by) arrows, Are an abomination,- Of Satan's
5: 93 handiwork: Eschew such (abomination), That ye may prosper.
5: 94 Satan's plan is (but) To excite enmity and hatred Between you, with
5: 94 intoxicants And gambling, and hinder you From the remembrance Of
5: 94 Allah, and from prayer: Will ye not then abstain?
5: 95 Obey Allah, and obey the Apostle, And beware (of evil): If ye do
5: 95 turn back, Know ye that it is Our Apostle's duty To proclaim (the
5: 95 Message) In the clearest manner.
5: 97 O ye who believe! Allah doth but make a trial of you In a little
5: 97 matter Of game well within reach Of your hands and your lances,
5: 97 That He may test Who feareth Him unseen: Any who transgress
5: 97 Thereafter will have A grievous penalty.
5: 98 O ye who believe! Kill not game, While in the Sacred Precincts or
5: 98 in pilgrim garb. If any you doth so Intentionally, the compensation
5: 98 Is an offering, brought To the Ka'ba of a domestic animal
5: 98 Equivalent to the one he killed, As adjudged by two just men Among
5: 98 you; or by way Of atonement, the feeding Of the indigent; or its
5: 98 Equivalent in fasts: that he May taste of the penalty Of his deed.
5: 98 Allah Forgives what is past: For repetition Allah will Exact from
5: 98 him the penalty: For Allah is Exalted, And Lord of Retribution.
5: 99 Lawful to you is the pursuit Of water-game and its use For food,-
5: 99 for the benefit Of yourselves and those who Travel; but forbidden
5: 99 Is the pursuit of land-game;- As long as ye are In the Sacred
5: 99 Precincts Or in pilgrim garb. And fear Allah, to Whom Ye shall be
  5: 99 gathered back.
5:100 Allah made the Ka'ba, The Sacred House, an asylum Of security for
5:100 men, as Also the Sacred Months, The animals for offerings, And
5:100 the garlands that mark them That ye may know That Allah hath
5:100 knowledge Of what is in the heavens And on earth and that Allah
5:100 Is well acquainted With all things.
5:101 Know ye that Allah Is strict in punishment And that Allah is
  5:101 Oft-Forgiving. Most Merciful.
5:102 The Apostle's duty is But to proclaim (the Messege): But Allah
5:102 knoweth all That ye reveal and ye conceal.
5:103 Say: "Not equal are things That are bad and things That are good,
5:103 even though The abundance of the bad May dazzle thee; So fear
5:103 Allah, O ye That understand! That (so) ye may prosper."

5:104 O ye who believe! Ask not questions About things which, If made
5:104 plain to you, May cause you trouble. But if ye ask about things
5:104 When the Qur-an is being Revealed, they will be Made plain to you:
5:104 Allah will forgive those: For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most
  5:104 Forbearing.
5:108 O ye who believe! Guard your own souls: If ye follow (right)

  5:108 That ye do.
5:109 O ye who believe! When death approaches Any of you, (take)
5:109 witnesses Among yourselves when making Bequests,- two just men Of
5:109 your own (brotherhood) Or others from outside If ye are journeying
5:109 Through the earth, And the chance of death Befalls you (thus). If
5:109 ye doubt (their truth), Detain them both After prayer, and let them
5:109 both Swear by Allah: "We wish not in this For any worldly gain,
5:109 Even though the (beneficiary) Be our near relation: We shall hide
5:109 not The evidence before Allah: If we do, then behold! The sin be

5:112 One day will Allah Gather the apostles together, And ask: "What was
5:112 The response ye received (From men to your teaching)?" They will
5:112 say: "We Have no knowledge: it is Thou Who knowest in full All that
  5:112 is hidden."
5:115 Behold! the disciples said; "O Jesus the son of Mary! Can thy
5:115 lord send down to us A Table set (with viands) From heaven?" Said
5:115 Jesus: "Fear Allah, if ye have faith."
6: 1 Praise be to Allah, Who created the heavens And the earth, And made
6: 1 the Darkness And the Light. Yet those who reject Faith Hold
6: 1 (others) as equal With their Guardian-Lord.
6: 2 He it is Who created You from clay, and then Decreed a stated term
  6:  2  (For you). And there is In His Presence another Determined term;
6: 2 yet Ye doubt within yourselves!
6: 3 And He is Allah In the heavens And on earth. He knoweth what ye
6: 3 Hide, and what ye reveal, And He knoweth The (recompense) which Ye
6: 3 earn (by your deeds).
6: 6 See they not how many Of those before them We did destroy?-
6: 6 Generations We had established On the earth, in strength Such as We
6: 6 have not given To you- for whom We poured out rain From the skies
6: 6 in abundance, And gave (fertile) streams Flowing beneath their
6: 6 (feet): Yet for their sins We destroyed them, And raised in their
6: 6 wake Fresh generations (To succeed them).
6: 15 Say: "I would, if I Disobeyed my Lord, Indeed have fear Of the

6: 19 Say: "What thing is most Weighty in evidence?" Say: "Allah is
6: 19 witness Between me and you: This Qur-an hath been Revealed to me
6: 19 by inspiration That I may warn you And all whom it reaches. Can ye
6: 19 possibly bear witness That besides Allah there is Another god?"
6: 19 Say: "Nay! I cannot bear witness!" Say: "But in truth He is the One
6: 19 God. And I truly am innocent Of (your blasphemy of) joining Others

6: 22 One day shall We gather Them all together: We Shall say to those
6: 22 Who ascribed partners (to Us): "Where are the partners Whom ye
6: 22 (invented And) talked about?"
6: 28 Yea, in their own (eyes) Will become manifest What before they
6: 28 concealed, But if they were returned, They would certainly relapse
6: 28 To the things they were forbidden, For they are indeed liars.
6: 30 If thou couldst but see When they are confronted With their Lord!
6: 30 He will say: "Is not this the truth? They will say: "Yea, by our
6: 30 Lord!" He will say: "Taste ye then the Penalty, Because ye rejected
  6: 30 Faith."

6: 32 What is the life of this world But play and amusement? But best is
6: 32 the Home In the Hereafter, for those Who are righteous. Will ye not
  6: 32 then understand?
6: 35 If their spurning is hard On thy mind, yet if Thou wert able to
6: 35 seek A tunnel in the ground Or a ladder to the skies And bring them
6: 35 a Sign,- (What good?). If it were Allah's Will, He could Gather
6: 35 them together Unto true guidance: So be not thou Amongst those who
6: 35 are swayed By ignorance (and impatience)!
6: 40 Say: "Think ye to yourselves, If there come upon you The Wrath of
6: 40 Allah, Or the Hour (that ye dread), Would ye then call upon Other
6: 40 than Allah?- (Reply) if ye are truthful!
6: 41 "Nay,-On Him would ye Call, and if it be His Will, He would
6: 41 remove (The distress) which occasioned Your call upon Him, And
6: 41 ye would forget (The false gods) which ye Join with Him!"

6: 46 sealed up Your hearts, who-a god Other than Allah-could Restore
6: 46 them to you?: See how We explain The Signs by various (symbols):
6: 46 Yet they turn aside.
6: 47 Say : "Think ye, if The punishment of Allah Comes to you, Whether
6: 47 suddenly or openly, Will any be destroyed Except those who do
  6: 47 wrong?"

6: 57 Say: "For me, I have An obvious Sign from my Lord, But ye reject
6: 57 it. What ye Would see hastened is not In my power. The Command
6: 57 Rests with none but Allah: He declares the Truth, And He is the
  6: 57 best of Judges."
6: 58 Say: "If what ye would see Hastened were in my power, The matter

6: 60 It is He who doth take Your souls by night, And hath knowledge
  6: 60  of all That ye have done by day. By day doth He raise You up again;
6: 60 that a term Appointed be fulfilled; In the end unto Him Will be

6: 73 (proportions); The day He saith, "Be," Behold! it is. His word Is
6: 73 the Truth. His will be The dominion the day The trumpet will be
6: 73 blown. He knoweth what ye Keep secret and whay ye Make known. For
6: 73 He Is the Wise, well acquainted (With all things).
6: 80 His people disputed With him. He said: "(Come) ye to dispute With
6: 80 me, about Allah, When He (Himself) Hath Guided me? I fear not (the
6: 80 beings) Ye associate with Allah: Unless my Lord willeth, (Nothing
6: 80 can happen). My Lord comprehendeth In His knowledge all things:
6: 80 Will ye not (yourselves) Be admonished?
6: 81 "How should I fear (The beings) ye associate With Allah, when ye

6: 81 security? (Tell me) if ye know.
6: 91 No just estimate of Allah Do they make when they say: "Nothing doth
6: 91 Allah send down To man (by way of revelation)": Say: "Who then sent
6: 91 down The Book which Moses brought?- A light and guidance to man:
6: 91 But ye make it into (Separate) sheets for show, While ye conceal
6: 91 much (Of its contents): therein Were ye taught that Which ye knew
6: 91 not- Neither ye nor your fathers." Say: "Allah (sent it down)":
6: 91 Then leave them to plunge In vain discourse and trifling.
6: 92 And this is a Book Which We have revealed, Bringing blessings, and
6: 92 confirming (The revelations) which came Before it: that thou Mayest
6: 92 warn the Mother Of Cities and all around her. Those who believe In
6: 92 the Hereafter Believe in this (Book) And they are constant In
  6: 92 guarding their Prayers.
6: 93 Who can be more wicked Than one who inventeth A lie against Allah,
6: 93 Or saith, "I have Recieved inspiration," When he hath received
6: 93 None, or (again) who saith, "I can reveal the like Of what Allah
6: 93 hath revealed"? If thou couldst but see How the wicked (do fare)
6: 93 In the flood of confusion At death!- the angels Stretch forth their
6: 93 hands, (Saying), "Yield up your souls: This day shall ye receive
6: 93 Your reward,- a penalty Of shame, for that ye used To tell lies
6: 93 against Allah, And scornfully to reject Of His Signs!"
6: 94 "And behold! ye come To Us bare and alone As We created you For
6: 94 the first time: Ye have left behind you All (the favours) which We
6: 94 bestowed on you: We see not with you Your intercessors Whom ye
6: 94 thought to be Partners in your affairs: So now all relations
6: 94 Between you have been Cut off, and your (pet) fancies Have left you
  6: 94 in the lurch!"
  6: 94 SECTION 12.
6: 95 It is Allah Who causeth The seed-grain And the date-stone To split
6: 95 and sprout. He causeth the living To issue from the dead, And He is
6: 95 the One To cause the dead To issue from the living. That is Allah:
6: 95 then how Are ye deluded Away from the truth?
6: 97 It is He Who maketh The stars (as beacons) for you, That ye may
6: 97 guid yourselves, With their help, Through the dark spaces Of land
6: 97 and sea: We detail Our Signs For people who know.
6: 99 It is He Who sendeth down Rain from the skies; With it We produce
6: 99 Vegetation of all kinds: From some We produce Green (crops), out
6: 99 of which We produce grain, Heaped up (at harvest); Out of the
6: 99 date-palm And its sheaths (or spathes) (Come) clusters of dates
6: 99 Hanging low and near: And (then there are) gardens Of grapes, and
6: 99 olives, And pomegranates, Each similar (in kind) Yet different (in
6: 99 variety): When they begin to bear fruit, Feast your eye with the
6: 99 fruit, And the ripeness thereof. Behold! in these things There are
6: 99 Signs for people Who believe.
6:100 Yet they make The Jinns equal With Allah, though Allah Did create
6:100 the Jinns; And they falsely, Having no knowledge, Attribute to
6:100 Him Sons and daughters. Praise and glory be To Him! (for He is)
6:100 above what they attribute to Him!
  6:100 SECTION 13.
6:102 That is Allah your Lord! There is no god but He, The Creator of all
6:102 things: Then worship ye Him: And He hath power To dispose of all
  6:102 affairs.
6:103 No vision can grasp Him, But His grasp is over All vision: He is
6:103 Above all conprehension, Yet is acquainted with all things.
6:104 How have come to you, From your Lord, proofs To open your eyes: If
6:104 any will see, It will be for (the good Of) his own soul; If any
6:104 will be blind, It will be to his own (Harm): I am not (here) To
  6:104 watch over your doings."
6:108 Revile not ye Those whom they call upon Besides Allah, lest They
6:108 out of spite Revile Allah In their ignorance. Thus have We made
6:108 Alluring to each people Its own doings. In the end will they Return
6:108 to their Lord, And We shall then Tell them the truth Of all that
  6:108 they did.
6:110 We (too) shall turn To (confusion) their hearts And their eyes, as
6:110 they Refused to believe In the first instance: We shall leave them
6:110 In their trespasses, To wander in distraction.
  6:110 SECTION 14.
6:111 Even if We did send Unto them angels, And the dead did speak Unto
6:111 them, and We gathered Together all things before Their very eyes,
  6:11
