Ballad Kersey shows up in the 1840 census of Hanover,County.

Research: Ballard's father is thought to be Fliming Kersey but we do not have a source for this, also this Fliming married Janet Ballard. The thought is that Ballard's name could be His Mothers maiden name.
This entry is from a letter by Ruth May Kersey,Grandaughter of Ballard Kersey,to Blanch Patterson written November 11,1956. The home place once belonged to Major Starke before My grandfather bought it and He is buried there. I think that the place where Ballard Kersey's people lived was near Peaks across from the Priddy's Place. Dick Kersey,Patrick's father,was a brother of Ballard Kersey,and when I was a tiny child I went to a funeral of someone that My father called Aunt Lew.I think she was My grandfather's sister and lived at Peaks.I can't remember anything more about it. There was also a sister who married a Perrin. They were related in some way to Jerry Smith,Myrtle's husband.My Grandmother Kersey was a Miss Gentry and she was from King and Queen County.Grandmother Kersey was a tailorer and used to make suits for the Wickham's and other wealthy men of the county,so My Mother told Me.I imagine there are some records at Hanover Court House about dates of birth ect.. While they did not have birth certificates etc., a long time ago I can remember when someone used to come around every year and whenever there was a new baby in the family My father would give Him the name and date of birth to be put in the records at Hanover Court House.

Ballard married Martha Gentry Kersey about 1835 in Hanover, Virginia. (Martha Gentry Kersey was born in 1812.)

Martha was a tailor and made suits for some of the wealthy men of the county.One was state senator Wickham.

Research: Martha was from King & Queen Co.,Va. according to a letter from Aunt Ruth, her grand daughter.

Research: This Fleming Kersey is a mystery. He shows up in the house hold of Ballard Kersey in the census of 1850 at 7 years of age. His death is listed October 10 1896.Ballard Kersey died 1880. There is no mention of Fleming in the will or property deeds nor have I ever heard any family member mention Him.

Dick was a bkick mason.
