General Notes:
Ann was the oldest child of Alene and Stuart Kersey. She was eleven years of age when her father, Stuart, died . Ann had five siblings to assist her mother with caring for. The youngest was two years old. In order for the family to stay together Alene had to go back to work to support the family. The youngest child ,Donald, was taken, every work day, to a baby sitter. After school Ann with the assistance of her sister,Jackie, would prepare the evening meal for the family. It developed into an alternate program for the two girls fixing the meals after school, one ,one evening and the other the next. This became quite a project for the two girls, first because of their lack of experience with cooking, the other, because of the lack of facilities for storing food, the fixing for each meal had to be purchased at the grocery store on the way home from school each day. This also required their planning the menu. A side effect was the interference of their after school time with their friends. This system continued on until the girls married.
