Bessie Ida Gammon Harris

   General Notes:

Bessie and Page had four boys that were raised on a farm in Montpelier,Hanover County,Virginia.The family did truck farming as well as raised tobaco on their allotment.As the boys grew up and joined the military service during World War II they developed other career ideas, that did not include farming.When the war was over they took jobs in Richmond. Toote Was the only one to stay in the Montpelier area until His death,but He did not farm.The family were members of Hopeful Baptist Church. Bessie, Page and Toote are buried in the church cemetery.Ann,Toote's wife, at this date [12/98] still lives close by Hopeful Baptist Church.Bessie was a loving and considerate person and loved by all who knew Her.

Bessie married Nelson Page Harris. (Nelson Page Harris was born on Mar 23, 1887 in Hanover County, Virginia, died on Feb 28, 1952 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Richmond, Virginia and was buried hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery in Hanover County, Virginia.) The cause of his death was heart failure, although, He also had cancer of the mouth.
