Ptarmigan Traverse -- page 3

Some pictures have a big 768 x 512 version available.
Click on it to see.

Steve climbing the couloir up out of the Yang Yang Lakes area.

Topping out to say hello to Mt LeConte

climbing to the shoulder of Mt LeConte -- steep below . . . (big picture)

But there's still more climbing  . . .
and it drops off steep and dark deep below.

A chance for a rest . . .

 . . . by a lake.

climbing to the shoulder of Mt LeConte

Then back to climbing up the shoulder of Mt LeConte

Spider-Formidable col from South . . . (big picture)

Looking back to Spider-Formidable col . . .

How did we get from there to here?

Mt Baker on the left, beyond the plain of low clouds.
(need more resolution . . . or imagination)

The way ahead to LeConte Glacier, with the usual Ptarmigan puzzle of
where next? . . . traverse, then turn to climb right . . . ?

But actually not so bad after all.
Dave and Steve traversing just under the rocks.

LeConte Glacier from North . . . (big picture)

And there's the LeConte glacier in full.
Just have to get through those crevasses,
. . . and not slide down into the abyss first.

[ The next section of the trip is missing its photos
-- from South Cascade Glacier through White Rock Lakes
--
see Steve's photos ]
