William Kemp was the first of that name to arrive in New England. William arrived in America on board the ship James on 4 June 1635 from Hampton, Middlesex - about 12 miles west of London. William became a significant landowner in the Duxbury and Plymouth area. Many of the Probate records involving William also contain such famous names as John Alden, Jonathan Brewster, John Howland and Myles Standish.
Much had been written in the past about the children of William and Elizabeth (Partridge) Kemp. In spite of allusions to a son named William, the only child of William and Elizabeth was a daughter, Patience Kemp.
